@@KevinDeal The 800 is definitely more niche than the 600, and the zoom would be more practical. But I prize getting that much reach with so little weight, and the R6 II handles the high ISOs well while providing a larger focusing box.
That doesn't surprise me. It's probably a JJC hood. That's what I did with my 35mm 1.8. The hood they sold for that was a joke, so I went with the JJC one.
It’s a neat lens and for sure with the weight being so light it’s one for the tool kit for me. I was thinking the 800mm but on APSC it might be extreme and the lens is a bit longer I’m cool with the 600mm. Tempted by the 200-800 but I went for the EF100-400L II. Autumn now so the 600mm probably hibernates unless there is a bright dry day
Do you own the RF600mm f/11? Did you get the 800 instead? Did you sell yours to get the new 200-800? Tell me about it in the comments below.
I own it and it really rocks with my R8.
I wish my area had more spottable birds.
Sometimes I'm thinking about switching to 100-500L instead.
@@Mr.VaSimple I too am eyeing the 100-55. :)
I still have the 800, which pairs nicely with the R6 II. As a lightweight, walk-around setup for smaller birds, it’s really enjoyable.
@@KyleJones-kk8vw there are times where 800 would be nice. Might have a 200-800 in my future.

Nice review, Kevin. I understand that the lens uses the entire image area on the new R5 Mark II as opposed to the centre only for focusing.
You are right about that. Can confirm after trying it on my R5MKII.
Amazon sells an entirely adequate lens hood for $14.

Sometimes I need 800, but not often. I can always crop my 600, or just get the 200-800.
