Humphrey Bogart, with his mackintosh and fedora hat, is the epitome of film noir. He is considered the greatest male star of American cinema. He met his great love in 1944.
Director Howard Hawks cast him that year for his feature film "To Have and Not to Have" (after the novel by Ernest Hemingway). He played the lead role alongside a youthful model from the fashion world who had made it onto the cover of "Harper's Bazaar" the year before: Lauren Bacall. The young woman had thus attracted the attention of director Hawks, who subsequently took her under his wing. The chemistry between 44-year-old Bogart and 19-year-old Lauren Bacall was right from the start. They fell in love and remained a legendary couple until Bogart's death.

The films "Dead Men Sleeping", "The Black Adder" and "Gangsters in Key Largo" crown the acting careers of this cult couple. The couple's son, Stephen Bogart, born in 1949, granted filmmaker Bertrand Tessier access to the family archive, allowing him to discover the man and woman behind the legend. The film from the "Iconic Couples" series features film clips from "The Petrified Forest", "Decision in the Sierra", "The Maltese Falcon", "Casablanca", "To Have and Not to Have", "Dead Men Sleeping Tight", "The Black Adder", "Gangsters in Key Largo" and "How to Hook a Millionaire". The cast includes Stephen Bogart, Eric Lax, Eddie Muller, Marc Wanamaker, Philippe Labro, Juliette Michaud and François Guérif.
