I’m in the process of reinventing myself thanks to the opportunity of a divorce after 20 years of marriage and I have discovered a passion for acting. Wonderful role model? She broke up two marriages by having affairs with married men and left her 2 year old son behind for 6 months when she went with Bogie to the Congo to film a movie.
@@sherrydrake9578 Yes, she did leave her 2 year old son behind for six months, but so did Bogie. Lauren paid her "mommie dues" when she stayed off the screen for three years (1950-1953) to be a mommie. I don't know why women are the ones who are always expected to give up such things as careers when they get married and have children. And what did Bogie give up?
Gosh I wish I would’ve known her. I seen her in a lot of Rock Hudson home movies. She seems fun and yet down to earth but will tell u like it is. I love the stories of old Hollywood.
She was a modern woman and very admirable. “Lady” is a term to separate women into categories, part of the old sexist language in our culture used by both men and women to manipulate or control women’s behavior. I’m sure she understood that, and I’m sure she didn’t approve.
Bacall attended summer camp with my mother-in-law, who saw her again very late in both their lives and reminded Bacall that she’d been called “Baby” because she was the youngest. Bacall let out that great laugh and begged, “Oh stop, you make me feel SO OLD!”
And she only bumped her head skiing and had a slight headache later on. Poor girl went to sleep and died. I think of some kind of aneurysm or internal bleeding. Scary to think about how easy that could happen to any of us.
