Thanks for posting the tools eric appreciate when I buy these tools will some of the money go to your shop would love to know what I buy from your links will help you out money wise it's the least I can do for such a great guy with the great videos
So, Eric, without your opinions and banter these would be just another repair video like the hundred others on YT we could watch. We watch BECAUSE of the opinions and chit chat, not in spite of. I'm changing the heads on my 2008 Equinox as a do it yourselfer. I wanted to record the whole procedure in several parts seeing as I have almost all the time in the world. The day I started the project I ran into so many obstacles that I just gave up on the video making. It would have been a good video too as my Dexcool turned into mud, and I found cracks on both heads. I just got soooo frustrated with everything though and kept thinking to myself ... "how in the world are people able to record all of their projects and still have time to complete their projects?". YOU Eric O specifically came to mind first. Thank you, and ALL the UA-camrs out there, (even the less than perfect video makers), that have made it possible for all of us DIY's out there. You guys have helped turn the wild, wild internet into something really useful that helps many people from all walks and lands. Thank You Eric O and everyone else.
Oh boy, I have the same car of the same year. It would've been interesting to see the full breakdown, but hopefully it's going well so far with the repair.
UGGGHHHH!, YOU SEE ...! I would have LOVED to have contributed like that to the UA-cam community, and be a part of something sooo helpful. DAMNIT MAN, I SUCK!. Well, I have a few other repairs to perform and will put forth a greater effort. It's still apart (1 week now), and maybe I'll gather Erik O's man up attitude and deliver when re-assembling the mess.
SocialMedia I hop everything go the way we like but after so many experience l put the worth things in front of me and never gets wrong so try to put video & we learn something from your mistakes so good luck & happy michaniklly

Mr. O, you see the good, the bad & the ugly day in & day out. You owe no allegiance to any one brand or system. Your opinion: priceless. Thanks for sharing with us.
You're probably never going to read this since it's a 6 year old video, but I thought I broke 2 different seals putting mine on because the orange stuff was smooshing out. The fact that you are the only person on the internet that could thought of telling people that's normal is mind boggling. I'm not a car guy, I'm just not afraid to get my hands dirty so I had no idea what was normal. Thank you for this video!
After you have fixed the same problem over and over on the same vehicle, somewhere it ceases to be your opinion but becomes fact. I appreciate your input. Scotty doesn't care what people thinks. The only problem with you is you can't say, "I've been fixin cars for 50 years..." LOL. And your videos are never boring.
Watching this channel is better than trade school. I have learned so much from you. Thank you so much. I have been able to complete many repairs on my truck I would have had no idea how to do. You are the best teacher ever. Another plus and big respect for you is you don't use " cheap" parts. Quality means everything when doing any repair. Again thank you for all the knowledge and education. This is for sure a TEN ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Channel.😊
I for one appreciate the fact that you share your OPINIONS on tools ,materials, designs, parts sources and manufacturers design failures. learning is why we're all here. Oh , and there is always the first amendment !! Thanks again Eric , and Mrs.O
I love this video and how it showed every step with no cuts in between, like moving into position to get the best leverage and view. That to me, is almost as valuable as seeing how each job was repaired. Thanks for a very detailed repair job of the suspension because this can be applied to most cars!
That's why I watch. I get all the experience of doing the job, and Mr. O is the one getting dirty and tired! (Keeps me in good graces with the wife too. I don't track oil onto the carpet!)
It's really not that bad if you have the tools. I used to do jobs like this in about 30 minutes including a brake job but I wasn't trying to video and explain to people what I was doing.
Haha Eric you had me laughing about the viewer stating you should keep your opinions to yourself. Firstly this is your channel and everyone here has the capability to scroll or watch. I prefer to watch even if you don't care for a certain auto manufacturer that I may or may not like. I loved Chevy growing up but they just don't deliver anymore. I find that most foreign auto makers do a better job nowadays. It is sad but just a fact. I love made in America but I can't spend thousands on a vehicle that just won't last. Thank you for your honesty as a mechanic and I think we all love that you take pride in what you do.
Eric vent your opinion anyway you want, you are the expert. If you say it's bad it's bad, that's why i purchased a Toyota, because you have said they are good. And now i know they are. And the keyboard experts, keep to your harddrive and usb sockets.
Always appreciate when you mention what you used before obtaining a special tool for the job. Harkens back to when I had little money, but lots of DIY drive. And I'm sure there are many just getting started who have no large toolchest, or deep pockets. But hopefully they learn as they go what we learned; time is money, and time saved is money saved.
I don't care what any one else says, still love these long videos showing how to do brakes, cv joints, etc. Never get tired of them. I only wish I could work on my vehicles as good as you do yours.
I love these kind of videos. And I couldn't think of a better person to get opinions about the build quality of different vehicles than a mechanic. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing!
That long stretch with Big Nasty while you were pushing the lower ball joint out brought back memories from the metal shop I worked at when I was a kid. I don't yet have to wear a hearing aid but I've had impaired high frequency hearing, every since. Lately, closed captions are the game.
Eric, after seeing the abuse you put those Astro Nano's through you convinced me they were worth the money. Bought both the 3/8ths and 1/2 inch guns and am in love! Only had them a week and I'm a "shade tree" mechanic and they have already paid for themselves. Keep up the great work DR. O!
I really like your personality on doing repairs of Ford's. I'm a GM man, but just bought a 2000 F-150 needing exhaust manifold bolts/gaskets because it was a really good deal for a 4wd and I wanted a spare truck for the "just in case" moments. That's how I found you. Now I'm a subscriber. Keep up the good work. By the way I live in Wisconsin, much less on snow than New York. LOL.
First of all, tell Mrs. O happy mother's day from me! Second, let me be the one to say "thank you" for being the diligent and insightful mechanic to see that the inner seal for the CV axle needed to be replaced and actually did the work while you were conveniently in there. Most shops would have just overlooked that item since they are just parts changers and not taught to see future potential problems. I've always been like, "repair or replace any needed item while you're already in that vicinity since the additional labor is nothing compared to having to rip it all apart again at a later date." You don't need to be a rocket scientist to see all the quality aspects of Eric O's videos. Sit back, learn, and appreciate the best quality you will ever receive from an automotive mechanic. The old daily driver is gonna be coming north for its needed repairs soon. Watch out!
I watch your pod cast (Whatever they call it) for many reasons. One of them is your opinion. You have seen more things in vehicles than I ever will and so your knowledge and opinions formed from that knowledge then to carry a lot of weight with me so regardless of that guy wanting you to "keep it to yourself",.... well forget him and keep on doing what you're doing! PLEASE, keep doing it!!!
I’ve been building the Ford F-250, 350, 450 & 550 here at Kentucky Truck Plant since July ‘93. So obviously, I’m bias to Ford trucks. However, ALL successful auto makers create bad designs, have faulty parts, have recalls, etc. Mistakes drive improvement & innovation. All due respect Eric, I don’t really care one way or the other what type of vehicles you personally like. As for Ford trucks (F Series), I think their history speaks for itself entering it’s 42nd year as the best selling truck. More than 32 million F-Series have been made to date and on average two are sold every minute. That doesn’t happen because they suck. 🤣 I watch your channel to learn about ALL auto repairs & because you make auto repair fun & interesting. I also think the dynamic of your family owned & operated business speaks to people. Back in the late ‘80’s, I worked for Nationwise Auto Parts as a manager, service writer, parts salesman & occasionally worked in the shop. I kinda miss it & think that what you have going is really cool. Keep up the good work! You do high quality work & the videos are great!
Your repair videos are by far the best I’ve ever seen really enjoy watching you work on anything and enjoy your banter and sense of humor is what separates this channel from all the others! Keep up the great work DR.O
I've finally accumulated the tools to do all the suspension and steering work on my car and my wife's car. Thanks to Eric O I have good direction. Thanks, E
hey Mr O...don't stop giving us your opinion please...an opinion from you is worth it's weight in gold because of your extensive experience! PS...love the nuts n bolts vids!
You had asked on Fuggettaboutit Friday why we like nuts and bolts vids.. Well, as we watch, we like to listen to your banter. It's quite entertaining. Indeed you and I are alot alike. We talk to the vehicle like it can understand or is alive. In fact, my old buddy who helped train me, Lord rest his soul, used to say 'Be careful of the mechanic that doesn't talk to either himself, or the car, because he is like Mt St. Helen when things go wrong..' Oh and Nano for the win once again. ( as well as the old Ford Explorer axle nut socket, if I'm not mistaken..)
Adam Trombino i talk to my tools and the ehicle while im working on sruff in my shop. Ill scream and yell at bolts to try to koax them to come lose. Lol i love having one way convos in my shop. Im in ny as well and talking to the parts helps with rusty crap. First ill talk nice and if it dont come i start yelling and if that dont work i finally grab the torch
Eric I thank you. I did my own F150 pick up the lower ball joints a shop quoted me $1300 2017 then I got a second opinion on the lower ball joint they said to me the ball joints were fine in 2017. thanks for your UA-cam, channel that I found I did the job in September 2021 myself and my sons help after I watched your work thanks I even change my upper control arms. I took my pick up Chevy dealer had them do Front alignment for $99. I said to the mechanic I did this all myself lower ball joints and upper control arms was hoping they were where, closest, he said yeah they’re right on cause, I did not have to adjust the uppers Control arms.
We love your opinion eric....we love the phone ringing ...we love the bell going of...we love seen the family ....its real ..its live...we would nt have it any other way....Great video...
Been watching your videos for a few months now and I'm a big fan. Not to hate on other "mechanic" youtubers but your really the only one I enjoy watching because its real life repairs not stages "repair" videos. Thanks.
Hi again Eric, here's an update: I just did a heavy maintenance on my '13 (new hubs, IWEs, both sides) I took a photo of the IWE I took out. I stuck a magnet to it to show you. Turns out the only aluminum in the IWE is the vacuum control diaphragm. The actual teeth in the IWE are steel. (I wish I could post it here) So, the Ford OEM IWEs are even sturdier than WARN locking hubs (which can be bad and good). Better to have the IWEs, like Fords, than leaving the front running gear all hooked up so you can kill your gas mileage even more than necessary. If you wish me to send you the photo, shoot me an email or text (LMK how you want to handle that. Ford has been ahead of the game for decades, *constantly* making changes/improvements all along. Now Chevy and Fiat are doing all they can to make up for lack luster engineering in a short period of time. And the results are far from ideal. I truly hope you can see past your prejudices. A really helpful video though, thank you!
what a mutters day. woke up to a new diagnose dan(ya ought to check it out good can bus explanation) and some good old sma!!!! life is good. now off for some flowers for the mother in the house and start a dinner.
My Ol Roger is a TEN-TEC Centurion linear amplifier that I got from a guy named Roger :-) which I use everyday mostly on 80 meters. Hope Mrs O had a great Mother's day.
I'd never seen that 4-wheel drive configuration before and I have to agree with you, that does look rather weak to say the least. Job well done, sure goes easy with power tools and know how. Thanks for the video.
Great video, I have to change out hub bearings, IWE, Axles, Seals. Brake pads and rotors. This video gives me confidence. Thank you. Love all your videos. Great work. Great content 👍 My 2011 F150 Thanks you.
I am a Ford guy but would prefer to hear honesty and except that there are issues with Fords. Also it is good to hear stuff about the trucks we drive makes you take notice of some of the weak spotts
Hi Eric, greetings from Singapore. Enjoy watching your videos, thanks for making the effort to adjust the camera so that the viewers can get a clearer view. You are one highly experienced mechanic because you sure make the work look so easy! I do recommend you wear ear protection when pounding the metal. My father, a retired construction equipment mechanic, suffered the consequence of not doing that. He has a hard time hearing sounds now and to make things worse, refuses to wear a hearing aid. Take care.
Glad to see a newer ford truck with a frame left on it! Our '94 has a decent (rusty, but still thick solid metal)... Most in the 2000's range have long sense turned into swiss cheese.... Check out one that looked fantastic!... But the frame behind the rear wheels was paper thin.
Dude. Best walk through I’ve seen on the F-150 touching on nearly every front suspension component. I love it. Thank you very much. Just discovered the Mevotech parts when looking for upper control arms on my truck. Nothing against the Moog stuff but these look just as good.
Update: i use the TTX ball joint on my Ford f150 2010 after you recommend it 3 years ago. I use my truck has a truck here in Canada last week my truck went in for inspection and they are still going strong i grease them has part of my normal maintenance. 60% of my driving is on dirt road full of hole. 5 star review thanks you.
Your homest opinions based on hundreds of repairs like this are why I am glad to have found this channel, and why Im glad I did not buy a Ford. Thanks Eric.
We have the same issue with rust here in the UK (probably not as bad as what you guys have) and a quick blast with a wire wheel and penetrating fluid makes thing so much easier to get apart
Thks for the Sunday morning video..had my coffee, now off to work.good video.happy mothersday mrs o... eric and family have a great weekend..check your air pressure, big nasty may be starving ( lol)..she's always put the beans to everything..give her two drops of oil and the afternoon off.she will be just fine.
I think if manufacturers paid more attention to the opinion of expert repairers such as yourself Eric then the rest of us would benefit from well designed long lasting easily maintained drive trains and suspension. Thanks for the video and although you always end with “if I can do it you can do it” in this instance I think it would take me all day and so I’ll pass and leave such jobs to the likes of experts like you
Eric, I watch mainly for your option, and if someone doesn’t like your opinion, he can keep it to himself. If I wanted to watch some boring ASE person, I would go to a dealer. Keep up the good work , and Hi mrs O. PS, more touch.
I'm not exactly a ford lover but they are my choice for trucks. I owned an 09 f150 for a while (that has this 4x4 system) I ended up selling it because I hated that underpowered 4.6 motor, and anemic 4 speed transmission. It was a new looking truck that drove like it was from 1995 because of it, just not enough power or gears. And it got 12mpg. But honestly I really liked the truck. Very comfortable, good looking and it was actually really reliable. The 4 wheel drive worked great in that truck, and I used it at least once a week and almost daily in the winter. It does take a second to engage which is annoying, and if you don't back up a foot or two after you engage 4x4 the IWE units can make a ratcheting sound but once it's locked in it works fine. I wouldn't exactly call them extremely failure prone like you said. I took that truck some places it should've never gone and my 4x4 never failed me. It's definitely a little chinsy but it works.
It just baffles me that Ford is adamant at perfecting a vacuum 4x4 system. That have tried numerous vacuum hubs and always change the design after a few years and have so many failure points. I just don't understand myself....
South Main Auto Repair I agree. It needed a re design and vacuum definitely is not the best choice for a 4x4 engagement system. But that being said the IWE units are kind of failsafe. They actually disconnect in the presence of vacuum. No vacuum means they're locked in. So if you were to have a vacuum leak your 4x4 would still work but the CV axles just wouldn't disengage in 2wd. And I think some sort of hub/disconnect at the wheel is a good idea because the CVs, and front diff/ driveshaft don't need to be turning in 2wd. Less wear on drivetrain and better fuel economy. But ford just went about it wrong. And on the super dutys the vacuum hubs have a "lock" setting so you can still manually lock them in if the vac. System fails.
'Come On' Crown lubricants...your sales have probably gone up across the country/world because of this UA-camr'. Give Eric a couple cases of your stuff and let him put them to the 'real world' test!
Gotta love the engineering in today's vehicles. Pretty soon, once they're out of warranty, we'll be towing them to the scrapyard. Seems to be the way auto manufacturers are headed these days ... 🤢 I've had a few Big Nasty fails like that. The rust is pretty bad around the Northeast - every so often, she meets her match! 4 lb. sledge usually fixes that. Finally got my floor poured on Saturday!! It's a thing of beauty. Guys are coming back sometime today to cut reliefs across it. Then I just have to install the side door, and make a ramp of gravel so the concrete edge doesn't get smashed, and I'm ready! I do still have to move about 40 tons of equipment and tools into there, though - that's gonna be a project in and of itself. Every step is another step closer though! 👍 Gotta get back at it - sounds like we've got hit by the same wave of work! Great vid - keep 'em comin' (when you have time!). 👍👍
So someone's opinion was that you should keep your opinions to yourself? How quaint! You and Mrs.O. just Keep on Trucking doing what you're doing. Your subscriber numbers speak volumes.Heck, I'm watching just to be watching now.....
I really enjoy your videos. I am a ford guy but after watching this on the 4wd not so much anymore. That looks really cheap. You would think ford would do better than that. Thanks again Eric O.

I like when the horn honked, Eric quickly says"hey, it's that guy"!
Yep, I am pretty sure that was a package carrier dropping off some new goodies at SMA. :)
I thought it was one of the regulars at the Steubenville county fair. Lol
Keep on with the opinions. NOBODY has a better informed opinion than independent mechanics that work on everything.
Mr. O, you see the good, the bad & the ugly day in & day out. You owe no allegiance to any one brand or system. Your opinion: priceless. Thanks for sharing with us.
"Every tool has a hammer side." I need this on a t-shirt!!

Eric that's some merch you need to sell right there! Every tool has a hammer side

Nothing better than starting a day off with a repair video.
nothing washes a cold beer down better than an SMA video, thx MR O.
That long stretch with Big Nasty while you were pushing the lower ball joint out brought back memories from the metal shop I worked at when I was a kid. I don't yet have to wear a hearing aid but I've had impaired high frequency hearing, every since. Lately, closed captions are the game.
What did you say! Same here. Listening to a pizza oven moan away, ambulance sirens for 10+ years, hammers/impacts. My hearing is getting bad
I told them I'm half deaf. I didn't tell them I don't listen half the time either though. They'll never know which half is at play.
Watch out!
I needed to learn what that inner axle seal was all about BECAUSE THATS WHERE MY TRUCKS LEAKING OIL! Thanks for the vid bro!
Wrong tool=drink. Forgot hammer=drink. Impact in reverse=drink. Excellent video!
Eric you have one of the best car repair videos going
Nice to see a professional doing the job. Too many videos are posted by hacks. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to share this...
23:52 - Why I think Eric O. is a great mechanic! Many would turn a blind eye on that shaft seal. Props my man. Eric P
I just had this done and the labor was 14 hrs !! I was quoted 6 hrs..
2k total with parts, also did tie rods , pitman etc.. Rides nice now
I bought a Nano because of your videos. It is a sweet little impact. Still love the videos, nuts and bolts and the diagnosis too. Thanks Dr. O.
so did i !! only problrm my son came over the day it came in the mail saying "i need an impact " so it's back to the SMA store for me :/
My favourite part would be the tie rod end being beaten heated and oiled into submission... great video by a great mechanic again.
We love your opinion eric....we love the phone ringing ...we love the bell going of...we love seen the family ....its real ..its live...we would nt have it any other way....Great video...
I had a friend who used to say when the phone rang......"Every time I hear that phone it's ringing" LOL
Oh boy, I thought that seal was gonna be a nightmare but it worked out for you! Thanks Dr. O!
Top shelf banter Eric! That is why your videos are so valued. Great job, happy Mothers Day to all you moms!!!
Been watching your videos for a few months now and I'm a big fan. Not to hate on other "mechanic" youtubers but your really the only one I enjoy watching because its real life repairs not stages "repair" videos. Thanks.
You are amazing, I think I could do this in about 3 days, but you do it so effortlessly.
A really helpful video though, thank you!
i recently purchased a 3/8 nano, i love it. the thing is ridiculous. every one at work is blown away by it.
For the price the little guy is awesome!
When i told them what i paid they couldnt believe it
Sunday morning + coffee + SMA=Heaven
what a mutters day. woke up to a new diagnose dan(ya ought to check it out good can bus explanation) and some good old sma!!!! life is good. now off for some flowers for the mother in the house and start a dinner.
I'll bet you sleep well every night because you ALWAYS do a great job.
thanks for bringing back the air tools, i see your listening to the people
Your OPINION is one of the reason I enjoy watching, thxs again nice video.....
I love my ford truck...and when I see em roll into the shop its like payday came early!
It's the brake cleaner that drawls people to the channel. 😜 Hope you and your family has a great weekend.
Never thought a how to video could also be entertaining. Great job 👍
You are the best at explaining how to do it, on this youtube thing... Peace, God Bless America...
My Ol Roger is a TEN-TEC Centurion linear amplifier that I got from a guy named Roger :-) which I use everyday mostly on 80 meters. Hope Mrs O had a great Mother's day.
auto-assumes one of 3.840 trouble makers ;)
I don't go to 3840 :-)
I didn't figure, romper room/bozo freq. :))
I'd never seen that 4-wheel drive configuration before and I have to agree with you, that does look rather weak to say the least. Job well done, sure goes easy with power tools and know how. Thanks for the video.
Great Video. Always good to see what the road salt does to our cars.
From CT resident
Just did my ball joints 10000 miles ago replaced them with the mevotech terrain tough. And haven't had any problems.
Good job, very professional, and good equipment for the job performance.
Great video, I have to change out hub bearings, IWE, Axles, Seals. Brake pads and rotors. This video gives me confidence. Thank you. Love all your videos. Great work. Great content 👍 My 2011 F150 Thanks you.
I think this is the first time I've heard Eric say "I don't have the tool for it" lol
I appreciate your critique regarding automotive engineering or lack there of! As a mechanic once told me Ford’s are so poorly engineered buyer beware.
gm's r wors
outoftime Wrong bunion lips.
anonymic79 Very true on many points.
If you morons think anyone is that much better than the other, your need a reality check.
Thanks for the video and although you always end with “if I can do it you can do it” in this instance I think it would take me all day and so I’ll pass and leave such jobs to the likes of experts like you
Great job on the seal Eric
They are a mother jumper
almost the same ball joint as an old chevy i told derw to watch you so i didnt have to show him how to do it.... your awesome
Another awesome video Eric
First rate work, fun to watch you make repairs.
Great video Dr! Happy Mother's day Mrs O!!!!!!!
Damn Eric props to you for what you do up north I'm glad I work south and don't deal with rust much except on older cars
Eric, if you say its a crap - I believe you that its a crap :) Its your channel, you can say what you want :) Gr8 job as always!
Eric, thanks so much for the video, you are a down to earth guy and excellant teacher. Can learn alot from you!!
I've had a few Big Nasty fails like that.
Gotta get back at it - sounds like we've got hit by the same wave of work! Great vid - keep 'em comin' (when you have time!). 👍👍
I need to tell you, you do a Great job. I love your work.
I was so taken with the little Nano after seeing Eric constantly use it that I bought one. Still haven't used it.
I've been watching you for years, great content, awesome mechanic!
Looking a great job, always informative, thank you for taking the time to record.
So someone's opinion was that you should keep your opinions to yourself? How quaint! You and Mrs.O. just Keep on Trucking doing what you're doing. Your subscriber numbers speak volumes.Heck, I'm watching just to be watching now.....
I just love how all your tools have names
We love your opinions. That dude can cram it.
I currently have an 07 on the shade tree lift.
thanks Eric O!!
same jobby job.
the inner hub guts fell apart driver side.
Great job Eric
Big nasty is my favorite life saving weapon
Thank u from nyc
I really enjoy your videos. I am a ford guy but after watching this on the 4wd not so much anymore. That looks really cheap. You would think ford would do better than that. Thanks again Eric O.
I know you are strapped for time. We will try to keep up so bust and move and thanks for the Sunday video.
You know it sucks that I am a Ford guy and I won't buy a new one till they get back to make a truck again. Thank you Eric O for your great videos.
Absolutely the best vid on how to replace the CV axle that I've found. Now I feel confident to tackle my repair this weekend!!!
