Used to love doing overnighters at Carlisle back in the 80's, it was none stop with steel workings to and from Ravenscraig, Speedlink services, Continental services, Container services plus sleepers. You never got time to be tired especially if you collected wagon numbers
Stephen, it goes to show how the time does fly. But, in terms of freight these days at Carlisle, they seem to be lacking compared to the past. Carlisle overnighters looked epic. I tried that 6 years ago but got jobs worth. I recently bought a DVD box set of UK freight in the 80's and 90's. And my word, they looked and sounded epic.
I remember as a kid travelling to Stranraer many times with my mother. Train at about midnight from Newcastle to Carlisle, then half an hour wait to catch the Stranraer train. We would look for an empty cariage, lie down and pretend we were asleep. Eventually the train would depart and leave us in our own wee carriage. At leaat then we could sleep if we wanted to. Ialways did. When my dad went too, we would drive to Stranraer.
Great Vid!
Thank you Harry :-)
Great Video as always Ricky!
Thank you, very happy to hear you have enjoyed it :-)
Great video Ricky. Nice to catch a steam train and 88010 in the new livery
Thank you Arnold. Well, I'm getting the feeling that 35018 is becoming my steam stalker lol. 88010 looks lovely in the new livery :-)
