Probably one of my biggest wtf purchases, but do keep in mind, when my previous laptop exports 15 minute 1080p videos in 2 hours on a good day. The upgrade was much needed and I’m pretty excited to finally get around to editing more videos. Now I finally wont be turned away from wanting to edit. Good videos sir, thanks for the tech talk.

I'm running an old PC that is considerable powerful but has no H.265 acceleration and I only shoot in 4K 4:2:2 10bit HEVC (H.265) between 24-120fps real time. With 24fps and even sometimes 60fps is smooth until I use motion graphics like MotionVFX or any fusion based stuff in DaVinci Resolve 18. Hoping for Mac Studio to update to M2 Max later this year but M2 Pro mini is powerful enough with 12CPU/19GPU/32GB RAM + 1TB SSD.
Upgrading to the M2 make sense for people like me who still have the MCP with the Intel chip. Fot the m1 users, doesn’t make any sense at all! Thanks for your test 😎
I got the MacBook Pro 16 in. not decked out except for an upgrade to 1TB. I am loving it so far. The only issue I have seen is that some apps are having trouble running. I guess (I don't know) that they can't keep up with the machine. It is very fast for me because I had a MacBook Pro 2017 with an intel chip. It used to get really hot in my lap after being on it for a while but this one has been worked on most all day and hasn't gotten warm. I wish it had a charge connection on both sides because the left side is not convenient for me.
So unless you’re running 8k monitors, and Wi-Fi 6, is it really necessary over M1 Max? I’m running 16” M1 Max with 32GB, 1 TB. If apple offered a competitive trade in price($1235), I might’ve considered an upgrade but tbh it’s probably overkill
My M1 Mac Mini 16Gb crushes that, My M1 Max Mac Studio 64GB obliterates that and believe it or not even my M2 MacBook Air 24Gb handles it amazingly well. so Yeah your good
Hi thanks for this awesome review. I had a question about the SSD speed comparison between Macbook pro M1 (16inch) vs Macbook pro M2 (16 inch). I see lot of review videos stating that apple has almost reduced the SSD speeds of M2 models to half of the M1 models, is this also the case for the 16 inch M2 pro? I am going to buy my first MacBook, and expect to use it as my daily driver for the next 3~5years at least. I work as a web developer and was planning to buy the 16inch M2 pro with 1TB SSD and 32gb ram, but I am worried about getting a slower ssd. Any suggestions would be helpful.
The slower SSD speeds mainly are on the base models like the M2 Mac Mini with a 256 GB SSD. Higher spec’ed Macs, like the M2 Max MacBookPro 16” have at least 1 TB SSD and are superfast
To summarize, a) this is just 4K 24fps b) this is 8mins material in 2-3 min. render ... which means: 4k60 will be in real-time: 8min - 8min. 5.3K will take even longer, with effects, long nice bike trip in 5.3K30fps that is 25 min. long.. will render around... 45min? Not that great :( considering that RTX 4090 can do it 4K120fps or even higher and to smaller size H.265 codec. Bummer :(

For environmental preservation, why are we still not able to send our M1s back to them to swap the internals if it's the same design still? Boggles my mind. I'm still rocking a pristine 17 inch macbook maxed out in late 2011. Someone would have to gift me one of these for me to upgrade. No thanks. What?!
I upgraded from a 16” M1 Pro with 32GB of RAM to a 16” M1 Max with the binned CPU and 32 GB of RAM. 16 GB just wasn’t enough for my workflows. The memory was regularly at 90 or more in use. But I don’t think I need 64GB at this point. I will have to wait until February 9th to pick up my new Mac, so I guess I’ll know soon.
You can definitely use a lot of ram depending what you’re doing. I had the M1 Max with 64gb of ram for a year and would use every drop of ram in Blender.
@@xaratemplate I doubt next GEN of Apple Silicon can catch up Intel and Nvidia. Apple has specific targeting customers: Content creators and basic users; it really depends on your application. I have WinPC at work and Mac at home. Apple silicon is more like build-in hardware chips for video and image process. Intel/AMD are more general to all applications.
I have a 13” M1 MBP. I find it very annoying that Apple removed MagSafe, gave me only two USB-C ports (only on the left side), no SD port and No HDMI port. Almost as if Apple is saying, “Poor peasant people won’t have a need for any of those ports. If they were going to use them, they need to buy one of our more premium laptops… (evil laugh)” Now that I have two 3D printers, I’m relegated to having to keep track of freakin’ USB-C dongles and SD adapters!!! C’mon Apple. I miss having the ExpressPort slot. I could pick which ports I wanted, onboard. 😢
I bought a similar machine, in the UK. I bought an Anker usb-c , 8-in-2 hub , which fits neatly into those two usb-c ports . That provided the ports that I needed. Why don't you check it out ?
Why is everybody just making the same tests? Can't you guys show something except the video editing, it's not the only thing the macbook pro is for( The video itself is great, don't get me wrong. Looking for Xcode/unity/unreal engine/blender tests and can't find, the only tests people are making are Video Editing tests and benchmarks lol.
My MCP 14 M1 Pro 512GB have write speed in range of 65-6600MBps and read is 5000-5600MBps.. So I think my 6month old mac faster than newer M2 pro and max models with 512/1024 GB versions as many have only one nand flash seen in some teardowns.

This is so frustrating. Day 1 and no one has any freakin 16” m2 pro (non max) reviews. Anyone that is trying to figure out if it’s worth it can’t even go buy one. How about using same clips for exports etc on M1 vs M2?
You should had done the exact same tests from the other machine with times and percentages to give an accurate test.

Can you test the Wi-Fi 6E speeds on Fios with this MBP? I have Fios Gigabit but often get only around half that on Wi-Fi 6 on my M1 Pro MBP.

Any difference when running Geekbench CPU and Metal when plugged in on high power mode? And any change in base CPU frequency when you do this?
