Jeff Healey’s sensitivity to a stylistically different guitarist to facilitate the jam is beautiful.

Besides his playing, Jeff had a remarkable vocal talent. I always play his version of Angel right after the Hendrix original, just to hear how two naturally gifted singers treated the same song and made it special each time.

There wasn't a great guitarist on this planet that didn't love Jeff, from Stanley. to Clapton to SRV, to Steve Lukather (a great friend and one of the last people to talk to Jeff) Everybody loved him! RIP Brother you will be missed. By the way, checkout Jeff performing "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" on my channel! Along with Luke and many other great guitarist and 70's/80's artist doing Christmas songs and more!

+ adam langdon.......are you serious? This incredibly talented (blind) man didn't need to play in a conventional manner, it was all a matter of "feel" for Jeff and it sure as hell didn't hold him back. I love/d the man. Rich? He's RIP, was here just over 40 short years. Bless you Jeff, you were an inspiration and nothing short of miraculous. Thanks for sharing.

One of my cousins, Todd Murchison, was like a brother to Jeff. Closer than brothers actually. Todd was an unbelievable guitar player in his own right. Both passed away around the age of 46 or so. Jeff from cancer and my cousin Todd from alcoholism. I knew Jeff a little. He would visit New Brunswick with my Uncle Tom and his family in the summers. Sometime in the late 70's early 80's. Jammed in my mom and dads kitchen as a matter of fact. East coast kitchen party is what I guess you call it. Uncle Tom was the man of a 1000 songs. Unbelievable talent for remembering lyrics. Truly an unbelievable talent Jeff had.

Vanessa McCarthy........what a lovely (if bittersweet) memory for you to have. I’m so very sorry for your loss (bloody alcohol!) but would very much like to hear Todd’s s work if it’s s available? I’m an Australian and not even sure if your comment was to me (it came via my email) but regardless, seems a dreadful waste if Todd’s considerable talent remains unheard. Kind regards, Linda.

Thank you so much for sharing the personal side. It gives a feel, and oh man, did they both leave us both blessed for the time and yet to early, I am sorry about your uncle, and my brother also did such the same. Could have been saved, were it not for the approvals he craved and family tree reads like Murder Inc, no joking now, so I went west, yet have met many just plain good people to me, icons to everyone else. I like to feel the person inside the music that is chosen to play. I am from Monmouth County so if you know the region, everybody there, knows everybody else, and we have this dumb saying, keeps us in the cold of our pulse, that nobody knows nobody, well then I must know us all. Lyrics move me just as much as the music and delivery, and your Uncle taught me more than I will say here; a man of bounds defied, I am incurable, after being feral, society has granted me so many a tale and taint. I won't give in and I won't give up. Your uncle, and a lot of rockers, reggae stars, some unknown, kwaali, the underground music (quaali- I dunno, SWEET PAIN, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan with Michael Brooks, it all reminds me of the human connection we all have) - yet I am just a big cat dancing on the world of keys, windows open, yet I've taken down the walls, to see, forever and a day, so it occurs to me -if I have forever, why do I need a day. I guess this must be a day. I get into spirals as my condition also has hyperglucemia, Crohn's (raging) and arithmea, -those are the easy ones, yet this what they call an AWO or an AWD (hah not all-wheel-drive) -an Alpha Wave Overload / Alpha Wave Disorder, part of evolution has kicked diabetes out of my body and eaten 2 inoperable tumors from my guts. 17 surgeries since 2003, most of them either botched, (I am at "86 counting down" under the either, I am not easy to sedate, and I hear Dr. Gabbert, no longer in practice in CA now teaches in FLA, the male nurse he whispers to me and my son, this is the wrong operation, so I hear Dr. Gabbert hush him down and tell him to rush, he said, "Hurry up, I have 8 of these today." There was no follow up, and my records were refused, I could bring suit, yet why, what good would it do) - after all that I remain, twice past my Dead Pool, where only my own tribe and some Cherokee still survive who know me, and bet on me, so how do I collect. I only wish them all the best. I really relate, and I really am so sorry about our losses, Jeff, and your cousin, nobody is expendable to me. Just thankful as for my bro, AD, that we had the good fortune to experience their being in our lives, and dear you are very blessed. I write sometimes perform don't like my agents or the gigs, so I have been resistant, yet if you rock to the classic era, you have heard a bit of me, no matter though, it is the spirits I seek to raise, and stories, life connections such as you (and I) have been so fortunate as to have in close up and personal, we are the most fortunate of them all. I layer down so it doesn't get seen, yet a verse for you, maybe I've sold this one, so in defiance, of the vaults and in honor of John Gault, I scribe what demands itself to be written, like there is a choice... never was... I include the original from my own in Little Italy, before I went ballistic, from New Brunswick to Englishtown, to Asbury, and into the Stone Pony, I have friends and I have losses, some I have loved, some I have lost, could say, we beat to a different drum.. carry on!
      "A Low Dose Of Echoes"
      I wonder and I ponder
      Will I plunder over yonder?
      This thunder makes me wander-
6 feet under; I’m no goner.
      Whatever you think you see;
      When the game is done,
Know the odds are spun yet-
      Do not bet against me…
I had a low dose of echoes,
      And the high plains,
      Where our heat rose,
      Strains for remains,
      Yet what nobody knows,
      Get a dollar for a dime…
Got no body, got no crime.
      Have you ever seen
The Cyprus swamps in twilight steam…
The edges of the waters writhe,
      With serpents fed on dreams…
      Am I just a lover …or a whore,
Who dies at my front door,
      Here where my shotgun says
Take no prisoners, eat the wounded…
      Nobody knows nobody anymore,
Is it an overdose of Thanatos,
Or another low dose of the echoes…
      Fed upon our dreams,
      Hear the fading screams,
The firing of the biggest guns,
No place left for my innocence to run…
      I make no more apologies,
For the open door into my easy jeans,
or the bodies that I’ve fallen…

      ….by RaVen DaWn….
      "Una bassa dose di echi"
      Mi chiedo e rifletto
      Potrò saccheggiare laggiù?
      Questo tuono mi fa vagare-
6 piedi sotto; Non sono spacciato.
      Qualunque cosa pensi di vedere;
      Quando il gioco è finito,
Conoscere le probabilità sono ancora filate-
Non scommettere contro di me ...
Ho avuto una bassa dose di echi,
      E le alte pianure,
Dove è aumentato il nostro calore,
      Ceppi per i resti,
      Eppure quello che nessuno sa,
Ottieni un dollaro per un centesimo ...
Non ho nessun corpo, non ho nessun crimine.
      Avete mai visto
Le paludi di Cipro nel vapore crepuscolare ...
I bordi delle acque si contorcono,
Con serpenti nutriti di sogni ...
Sono solo un amante ... o una puttana,
      Chi muore alla mia porta,
Qui dove dice il mio fucile
Non prendere prigionieri, mangiare i feriti ...
      Nessuno conosce più nessuno,
      È un'overdose di Thanatos,
      O un'altra bassa dose di echi ...
      Alimentato dai nostri sogni,

I will admit to using a strap ( like a noob :). Still a work in progress, but let's just say "I can see the light".

    • @JeffHealeyOfficial
      @JeffHealeyOfficial  8 років тому +9

Hey there. Jeff's being blind had *nothing whatsoever* to do with his technique. At the age of 3 when he received his first guitar, his dad (who knew some 'Hawaiian style' slide guitar) set it up accordingly so Jeff could play it lap style with a slide. He was so small he'd set it on the bed and stand up to play. In Jeff's own words, he "tortured his parents making horrible sounds on the guitar for a few years" then he started trying to figure out how to play what he was hearing on records (mostly Country and Jazz). His dad adjusted the action on the guitar so it would be more suited to fingers than a slide and away Jeff went. He was fully aware of the 'right way' to hold a guitar, but was used to playing it flat and continued to work things out that way. He got his first paying gig at the age of 10... ~Rog

my uncle Tom Murchison played with Jeff a great deal early on. Tom's boys Eric and Todd also played a lot with Jeff. My cousins all grew up with Jeff. I got a picture here of Uncle Tom playing with Jeff at the teamsters hall in Missassauga Ontario. Rhinestones and all. There was a man by the name of Freddie McKenna from New Brunswick Canada that was a huge influence on the way Jeff ended up playing. My Uncle Tom being a huge country fan and also from New Brunswick new Freddie McKenna. Tom played with Jeff very early on. From what I understand Uncle Tom encouraged his style of play by introducing Jeff tto the style of Freddie McKenna. Look this guy up on youtube. He started somewhere in the late 40's to early 50's. the style of playing is identical to Jeff's playing.
