- Out in Ingolstadt, Germany, you can find Audi headquarters. Where there's a nice Audi museum, with a great collection of vintage Audi prototypes, racecars, and more. But we didn't go to that museum. Nah, because with Scotto in tow - you KNOW Audi is going to hook it up. So beyond letting the tall one drive an R8, they take us to a storage facility deep inside the factory walls, that houses THREE floors of the most drool-worthy car collection we've seen in a long time. Maybe ever. And that's saying something, coming from a single manufacturer. But then again, the complete Auto Union is made up of Audi, Horsch, Wanderer, DKW and sometimes NSU... yeah, the episode is packed with Audi history too. Oh and some 5-Cylinder Turbo Noise courtesy of Walter Röhrl bumping the Group B jams. .

For those of us mega audi geeks in America, cars like the SWB Sport Quattro, S1 E2, RS2, B5 RS4 are like mystical creatures. Its so cool to see all of those sitting together. Thanks for sharing this. Old audi content is few and far between it seems
I'm not even an Audi geek or even particularly into German cars, I just appreciate cool cars and the stories and history associated with them, but the S1E2 was my favorite rally car from the moment I saw it.

Even those unpainted replicas of silver F1 cars with tanks aside damn.. when he mentioned are drivable i really tought they would surprise you to let you start to see how they sound if not let you drive at least one lap around that 'secret' complex but dang even so, what an incredible view for eye sight..

Even as a younger person growing up in these sort of modern days, I completely agree that you can’t beat some old Audi’s! Those old Group B Quattros had my jaw on the floor the whole time!

That Group-S prototype survivor unicorn is way too sick.. I can even imagine if the insane Group -B wouldn't get banned the follow Group-S would be like.. totally bonkers.
@@poplaurentiu4148 You'd think so, but Group S was basically the original draft for what eventually became the WRC specifications ten years later (which are still in use today): 300 hp engines, very small homologation requirements (originally 10 cars, now it's 20), and the original Group S version didn't require any of the parts to come from a street car, unlike the current WRC rules. So basically the cars would just have looked completely outlandish, but had a much saner amount of power for rally. (That prototype had a Group B engine fitted though, so it may have twice as much horsepower as the "production" version would have been allowed to have.)
Winchester1979.. Have you saw, searched info for all secret concepts & prototypes that should follow in Group-S ? (because not just Audi was working on it, others brands too) so the fact that none have engine in the front (like 10 years latter or today rally cars) most were build with mid-engine layout is a prove you are quite wrong when you say they became specifications that are used today and i don't know where you got informed from but what i do know for sure is the power out-put for Group-S was going to be higher overall than what Group-B was using.. (that was FiA intention before any WRC Group-B accidents regarding the Group-S).. so yeah..
And LMP1 prototypes!

I'm not even particularly an Audi geek but I was absolutely drooling and nerding out over the shear spread of historic and iconic Audi racecars in this collection. Absolutely love the Audi R15's, the R18, and most of all THE S1E2!!!!!!!
I was in awe! What a trip! I love older Audis. Last week I opened up the exhaust on my built 20vt S6, lovely sound. I haven't turned on the stereo since 😊.
I wish they talked and showed more of the V8q DTM. I love those too.

Honestly one of your best videos. Had the privilege of working on top ALMS Porsche team back in 2003-'06. Got to know all the Audi guys. And went to LeMans and raced against them. Personally got the inside tour of Porsche skunk works and museums, so I can totally relate...on a slightly different level. Loved visiting Germany and France.

A stable full of unicorns... The RS 002 is my personal favorite, what a car!
We fan Boi'd out on most of the cars in the garage, but the RS 002 was like seeing a unicorn for the first time...
To me it looked very much like an obeisance to Ford's RS 200 and the similarity of projectname given seems to prove it.

RS2 also has the 993 Mirrors, Heckblende that matches 993 styling, 993 Foglights and turn signals.
I could geek out on the rare 80s/90s Motorsport wheels in that vault alone. Glad you included the clip of everyone gawking over the turbo fans.

These cars have severe attitude and sound absolutely beautiful, so much so that you have to floor it in every gear until you run out of road! It's absolutely amazing and a privilege to see these exotic cars. Especially when these are usually excluded from public viewing. Thank you for sharing @hoonigan!
I would be stuck in there for hours looking over all the cars especially the early cars the like silver arrows and 002 group S prototype and all the group B cars. Ok just all the cars. Lucky men you are, cherish this moment and thank you for the vid so we can see this too. My eyes hurt from staring at greatness.

Lancia won 11 titles compared to audi 2. Lancia is true legend of this sport

And after an accident hitting spectators at a course, all the other teams dropped out in recognition of what had happened, instead Lancia forced their team to finish the race.
