In my previous video, i have discussed on the four methods to determine if a chemical reaction is a redox reaction.
A redox reaction will always involved oxidation and reduction reactions occurring simultaneously.
In any redox reaction, an oxidising agent always reacts with a reducing agent.
The substance that causes oxidation to the other substance is called an oxidising agent. Itself is being reduced in the process.
The substance that causes reduction to the other substance is called a reducing agent. Itself is being oxidised in the process.
So to test for an oxidising agent, you would need to use a common reducing agent such as potassium iodide solution, KI(aq).
Similarly, to test for a reducing agent, you would need to use a common oxidising agent such as acidified potassium manganate (VII) solution, KMnO4(aq).
In this video, i will share with you on the step-by-step strategy to test for Oxidising and Reducing Agents using such common laboratory reagents.
Enjoy the video! Discover how you pass Chemistry with distinction

Well it doesn't. matter which substance you take as long as you are testing for oxidizing or reducing agent
