Welcome to the official UA-cam channel of Joni Mitchell, whose songs “River,” “Both Sides Now," “California,” and albums ‘Clouds,’ ‘Ladies of the Canyon’ and ‘Blue’ compose only a fragment of a multi-disciplinary artistic output that has been embraced across generations, inspired multitudes of artists, and earned every conceivable accolade.
One of the world’s most remarkable and beloved artists, Mitchell has influenced musicians across a vast cross-section of genres with her ethereal songs that reflect social and environmental ideals. The prolific singer-songwriter-painter-poet has not only written and produced her music, but also designed most of her album covers and packaging. A journey into Joni Mitchell’s artistry is one of a highly original, harmonically innovative, and emotionally charged, familiar yet fresh adventure.
In the book, author David Yaffe explains this song, Day after Day. Page 31...Joni is “young, pregnant, and far from home” traveling East and writes this song. It’s considered her first “real” song as a songwriter. Beautiful song to my ears.
That is exactly the book and the reason I'm listening now. Powerful first song, Joni!
New Joni material! I am so shocked to see this. Joni’s music is a treasure to my soul.
This song was performed just five days before I was born! I do love Joni Mitchell's voice, lyrics, and guitar rifts. You are one of my favourite recording artists! God bless you!
Joni Mitchell has been one of the most influential people in my life. I started writing after listening to her music, and quickly realized I'd never get close to her greatness. She is, and always will be a source of constant inspiration.
This quarantine has given me the advantage of exploring more music from the past, known to be greater and will never be beaten by many that are popular now. I guess you can't really argue with that.
Just perfect in every way as always. I miss those folkie days.
Joni is amazing! Beautiful song.
Such a nice morning first listen. Ahhh Joni the one and only! Heal well you beautiful soul....
Beautiful! Oh, the early years....
I was a student at the same art college Joni attended 7 years before me and my instructor was a classmate of hers. When I moved to Europe I would often listen to many Canadian artists like Joni and Neil Young. She's a high-value talent and inspiration.
Stunning
how can be something so simple, yet so powerful? thank you Joni!
My favorite in high school had a crazy crush on her favorite album ladies of the canyon brings back nothing but wonderful memories
Lovely as ever!
A slightly different, yet equally exquisite version of a song I have enjoyed immensely for many years.
Reminds me of beloved tunes like The Way It Is, I Think I Understand, Gift Of The Magi and the like...
Bless you Joni! Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us, my dear longtime friend!
❤️
Wow, "new old" material from my first musical idol. Just beautiful!
Wow !
Never knew there were any previously unreleased recordings of Joni.
This is typically beautiful from the wonderful lady.
Day after day
Miles and miles of railroad track
Night after night
Hummin' of the wheels
Their hummin' seems to say
He'll follow you someday
But someday seems a million miles away
Day after day
Make a dollar, need it twice
Night after night
Lie awake and dream
Of days of auld-lang-syne
Moonlight through the pine
And linen table cloths all stained with wine
Day after day
Watch the hands move 'round the clock
Night after night
Searching for my soul
So this must be my fate
To sit and weep and wait
And pray my darlin' comes before too late

1965! I was 18. Many lifetimes ago.
Just love this stuff just Joni she is more than enough genius
love you,joni,you are so brillant!
Sweet and strong. You won me over long before this. So glad to hear more of your art in all its forms.
Beautiful track !!
Early Folk singer Joni. Always excellent in all her phases....Although IMO she got better with age...
❤
❤️❤️❤️
I'm here after reading the article in the New York Times by Lindsay Zoladz on the release of Joni's archive of early music. (Friday Oct 30, 2020)
A song about 2 days in a row.
This song almost sounds like something that Ian & Sylvia would sing. Very reminiscent of old, western Canadian country music of the time.
I am at a loss for words - :) Thank you for brightening my day
I greet you from Germany!
Glad you are here
@@kermit3421 Thank you.
Did Joni write this? Or is it a traditional folk song?
Good question.
She wrote it .
This is the first song she ever wrote.
I wonder why they removed the 3M logo on the tape box?

Use your words.
No wonder she didn't get on with Baez. You always hate the folks you steal from. Not to mention those ugly comments about Dylan right before her unfortunate stroke, ugh. It was very saddening to learn that she is decidedly not a nice person, basically everyone in that biography attested to the fact-but genius is genius. I listen to her differently now, though. It complicates things, e.g., learning that Miles enjoyed beating the shit out of women, etc. And on and on.
is that a movie?
Most artists start out being influenced by someone before finding their own style. And she certainly did.
she is honest, brutally honest...who is nice really ?
She never said anything ugly about Dylan. You can find find passages on UA-cam of her saying those claims are just journalistic bullshit by interviewers trying to squeeze a scoop out of every word she said. She actually says she really likes some of Dylan's songs, she just doesn't think he's a great player or singer technically, which he isn't. She does cover Mr Tambourine man in the 70s, doubt she would do that if she really hated him. She also mentions him several times as an inspiration and reference in the "Early years albums". Be careful of journalistic scams.
*Steal?* Wow, your understanding is so deep.
Dang, .... new Joni Mitchell! My life continues to know purpose because there's new Joni Mitchell. I can hardly remember a time in my life when Joni has not been a most-relevant gift.
The clarity of the recording is sublime ! How lovely to return to such a moment in time . Gracias hermana 💗🌸
Joni, thank you so much for making my life a lot better
SWEET JONI...
Beautiful!
And this is a DEMO?!??!!
Rather Baez-esque, this one.
Baez is a lovely woman but has none of the talent or originality of Joni.
I rather agree with Mellow. Very early Joni still finding her way. It's ok to say she sounds like someone else.
@@TheJewellian I thought the same the other day when I kept seeing her "Diamonds & Rust" song. Are there any other notable songs? Not really...
Exceptional, as always :)
Nice. She was doing material like this before Chuck. There are some CBC videos of her (still Anderson) that were recorded in Winnipeg at the University of Manitoba. Once she returned to the Fourth Dimension in Wpg the material changed quite a bit. When they returned to the 4D the second time Chuck and Joni were doing seperate sets and Joni had a lot of original material. By the time she played the Riverboat in TO in 1967 it was all original and Chuck was long gone.
♥️✨lie awake and dream ✨🎼♥️
Wonderful Joni, Thanks for sharing !
beautiful, nautral, vibrato
❤
I suppose she won't be finishing her autobiography given her brain injury and all that entails. I was so looking forward to reading it..I guess her first recordings will have to do. damn.
Well, either management has decided to cash in on her seemingly new popularity or she is. Lately a hell-a-lot of her music is being re-issued in fancier box sets. Also I recently bought a lrg table book on her art & poetry. Not complaining mind you. Her music helped me thru some dark periods of my life (mainly from 1968 till current). Just now I've replicates of her music from scratchy lp's to single CD's to now fancy box sets. Still listening at 66!
@@crazyoldhippieladyinthebib7357*68 'til current* is quite a long stretch. I hope you've bounced back now!
5 trolls.
Yes 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is haunting. She is "channeling" (damn that's such a naff word) all her folky forebears and adding some.
Wow. Thank you so much!
high&tight fourstrokegang xoxo
Her first song!
It’s actually her second
she said somewhere that she’d written a song for her boyfriend and scrapped it, and then wrote Day After Day after. if I can find where I read it I’ll post it here
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Priiii....tey!
The phony Dust, Scratches, and Grains on the video ruined the experience for me. So tacky.
Definitely tacky. But why would you let it ruin your experience of the song? You don't have to look at the video, right?
