FYI many of the fps drops are a rare issue with the encoding on upload I guess. I originally thought it was my card but my source video has no issues. Sorting it out now. Game held to 30fps

As much as I respect ACG I disagree on the "w8 for sale for newcomers". I believe this is an (three) excellent game that can be appreciated and enjoyed by old veteran fans and of course younger audiences that never got the chance to play the originals, but that's just my opinion.
Never played the Crash Bandicoot series before. I was too young to do so and only started playing games during the time of Gameboy Advanced (2001-2002). This is awesome news, and I cannot wait to play the Crash series!
I hate to be that person but it's bothering the hell out of me that you're skipping the boxes in the gameplay. Lol.
One thing he failed to mention which I think is quite important is this is a difficult series at certain points. Be prepared to look at the game over screen dozens of times.
It’s quite satisfying though when you finally beat a level that has been frustrating you.
I hope the success from this game will hopefully result in the remake of the Spyro Trilogy.
Now they just need to bring it to PC as well. A bit odd there's no PC release thus far considering the hardware of current gen consoles is a lot like those of PC's.

Nah. Tbh, i could see them remaking CTR, but i doubt they would make bash as it got VERY mixed reviews and tbh not alot of people (opinion) liked it as much as the first 4. But if they did remake CTR i reckon it would be its own game rather than DLC

The jumping problem is because in the originals they changed the jumping mechanics with every game and in the N-Sane Trilogy they wanted the same jumping through all the games and went with the Crash 3 jumping mechanic. This causes problems especially in Crash 1 where the levels where never designed for that. Some is easier but certain levels (fucking High Road) is much harder and require almost pixel precision.. Still a very good game and as a classic Crash player am very happy with it overall.

Even though there are some problems crash was one of the first games I played as a kid and I can't wait to play it tomorrow.
And the quest for a video where someone shows how playing as Coco would work in Crash 2 when she's supposed to make hologram calls to the player (Crash) as part of the game's story continues...
I really want this to sell well enough for them to so consider making a new Crash Bandicoot Game. There are no excuses now besides bad sales numbers. Regardless of its faults, I'm def. gonna play he sh*t out of this trilogy!

Watching this review brings me memories of getting on the bus and swapping tenchu for crash warped for a fiver at my local game shop, coming home and reading the manual on the bus.
As opposed to these days when people go and trade there souls to get £5 off a new game, have no manual, get home, play a level, then beg there parents for money for the dlc.

The amount of boxes left behind in this video hurts me to the bone.
Most gamers who end up buying the Crash Bandicoot N.sane Trilogy are going to get it mostly for nostalgic reasons and rightfully so. Who doesn't want to play the classic Crash Bandicoot games with a shiny new coat of paint? Sure the trilogy has a few issues, most notably the fact that it doesn't run at 60 fps. Loading times are a bit on the long side for some strange reason. Jumping is also a bit of an issue. Having said that, I'm really happy that I can get to play three classic Crash Bandicoot games on the new hardware, despite the aforementioned problems that I mentioned. Then again, I've always had a soft spot for Crash Bandicoot. Thanks Karak for the great review. I really appreciate it!
I agree with the assessment, but I think you missed out one one thing.
The controls are floaty, delayed, and at times completely unresponsive. I've tried multiple controllers (i have 3) and had my friend play, just to see if i was actually just bad. Here's how found this control issue:
I have played Crash Bandicoot 2 to 3 times a week since i was 6. I have never strayed from that tradition, so you could say i'm a fanatic for Crash. So when i played Snow go and saw crash ice skating on solid ground a full 3 extra seconds after exiting the ice, I knew something was wrong. When i let go of the controller and crash took an extra 5 steps and fell off a cliff in a bonus stage, I knew something was wrong, and when i held crouch to power slide and crash just walked forward and died (same bonus stage), I got mad as all hell. Not to mention the ice skating momentum glitch, where if you skate into a block then jump you'll fly forward, is still there! I have never had to grind for levels, EVER, because the Crash games aren't that challenging to me. But now I have to grind an extra 15 levels before i go into a new warp just to be safe. My save data (with 50 lives) Randomly corrupted and I had to start over from scratch. I'm up to the third warp room on crash 2, and my nostalgia and love for crash is fading fast with this reboot. I think i'll just stick to the original versions for my fix.
I personally believe they dropped the ball on this one, but seeing Crash in HD was worth the purchase. I just wish it was also fun to play the game.

Karak, great video, but I have a question. Do you miss the mascot platformers. I mean Ratchet and Clank 3, Banjo Kazooie and Jak and Daxter are one of my favorite games. It´s annoying to me how every developer is trying to make their games look realistic nowadays, but often forget about fun gameplay.
It´s a shame that Yooka-Laylee sucked. If that was critically claimed and financially successful it maybe would force developers to go back to 3D platformers.

Yooka-Laylee wasn't a bad game, it was a 90's platformer. It came with all of its good and bad things. But if you enjoyed 90's 3D platformer like Banjo-Kazooie, it was a really fun game.
I'm a 90's Baby ('94) and I never got to play these growing up. I "Waited for a Sale" and wow, great game. Very addictive.
This could very well be my GOTY. I know, I know but I love the gameplay so much. It's hours of fun and it takes me right back to when I used to obsess over the originals.
The music in the games are some of my favorite songs for a game ever...

Never played the original. Think I will pick them up for PSX. I always have fun playing my old games on old systems. Not like ND would be cashing in on this modern purchase anyway.
i still think this would be so much better as a remaster rather than remake. like same engine as the original just updated textures. building everything from the ground up was a poor choice imo bc it doesn't look sound or even feel like Crash anymore. I also wish there was an option for using the old graphics

Actually got this one pre-ordered last week! I got a taste of Crash Bandicoot in Uncharted 4 and really liked it! And I think it's the original Playstation version that's used in that case, so I don't think I'll have any problem looking past those issues that you mentioned! Thanks for the review! :)

my eb games was selling this on launch day for $60, i live in australia so we usually pay more for games, but they had a deal going where if you traded a game in you could get it for $20 less or two games for $40 less, so i ended up buying this for $20 on launch day
As a 22 year old who used to play the shit out of original Crash Bandicoot series as a 5 year old kid I'm definitely taking a month break from life to play the shit out of N sane trilogy... Nostalgia slap me right in the face and I love it, love it so much

After playing this for a few hours I now remember the biggest struggle I had as a 4 year old.
I just wish this game had two player, something along the lines of Odd World. Would be nice if one player dies the other can have a shot, going back and forth each death or level completion.

I grew up with Crash on the PS1 and i am loving the game. Tons of nostalgia and its awesome to get to play Coco this time around. I really hope that Spyro gets a remaster of his first 3 games. I love Crash but i love Spyro even more.

The director did a recent interview, where he said they purposely held back, and didnt utilize the Pro’s power - because they wanted to focus on the Base PS4. Seriously, what the fuck. This game looks amazing, no doubt. But I don’t understand how they could make this game from the ground up, and be at 1440/30.
PS4 Pro was a mistake.

60 FPS is actually made for platformers. It’s actually one of the genres that greatly benefits from it. So while I get the original ran at 30fps, it’s totally BS if that’s the argument being used.

As long as the game is fun and functional, I don't care about its frame rate. Having played the originals at least ten times each, this will probably feel no different from my childhood experiences, which I'm okay with.
I don't think I'll ever seriously care about fps if I'm playing on consoles because if I truly did care about maximum platinum high Mount Everest SEXY PERFORMANCE & GRAPHICS...
I'd just buy a PC. Honestly, as long as it's standard basic performance relative to the current generation console's power with a steady frame rate, I'll have no problem playing them. I get what I pay for with a console vs a PC. To each's opinion their own.

Nice review again. I'm concerned about the 30fps lock, but I'm honestly surprised by how this turned out compared to how I felt with its first announcement. It seems like a true remake in one sense - it facelifts the original games, but some people just aren't going to like that. But I can certainly do for playing the games again, lol.

I've been waiting for the reviews to pour in for this and I always listen to yours first Karak. I got my copy early and played through the first game last night. The first 3 Crash games were massively influential to me and I have difficulty trying to set my bias aside to see how the gameplay has been adapted in 2017.
I'll definitely say that the inconsistent collision properties of boxes (especially where you sort of just "slip" off the sides of platforms where it didn't happen in the original games) made it somewhat irritating, but overall I was able to adjust. I do hope that they possibly improving collisions via a patch if possible.
I personally love a great deal of the music (mainly from Crash 2), but to each his own. :P

Yeah, I've seen this too. I just slide off a crate or fail a jump even though the character's feet touch the edge of the ledge which shouldn't happen
I had thought that I preordered this game, but it must have been in a parallel universe or something because I have no emails or anything saying that I did. I guess I'll wait for the first sale now :P
If this game had not been previously released, it would look like a modern day indie game.

Hey man. I played a shitton of Crash many years ago. It started with a demo and later went all out. I've been ignoring everything about the Nsane release, but I watched your video. At this point, I still don't know what it is priced at. I believe you've mentioned prices before in your reviews - did you just miss this one, or was it a concious decision? I'm interested because I still don't know the release price of Nsane, and I have an honest interest in your videos.

THGhost2013 As someone who doesn't have a lot of nostalgia for the character, I can say that it's because there's not much to it. And what is there feels ancient. I don't really think these games hold up anymore. Gameplay-wise, they barely have more depth then the Temple Run games on smart phones. I will say, these remakes look visually quite impressive and I am happy for the fans for getting this.

I really hope that Crash Team Racing and the original Spyro games get remastered like this. But CTR and Spyro still hold up well today and I can play them whenever.
