This is a great channel, with humour, knowledge and Miss M, and you fully deserve the gratitude that we have for your videos👍 Congrats and keep up the great work👍👍
On my 2008 Ford Mondeo I have had to replace both rear bearings. So I was surprised to hear you say in your experience that you had never had to replace any. There was an interval of about two years when the second bearing had to be replaced. You are right about cost of spares as here in Ireland we have 23% VAT on almost everything which makes buying spares from Ford ver expensive. You are right also about the noise coming from worn bearings as I could not wait to get this problem repaired. Love your site as with 320,000kms on my car I look up your site for information every time.
Happy 10k subs, well done Alan and the team (Monica), Thank Christ they put bolts on the rear hub!!, instead of those cap head torx bolts on the mk4...., Keep posting Alan love the videos.....
Don't own a Mondeo but have driven a few over the years. My fave being the MK3 Mondeo. I think they've aged beautifully, seem to be reasonably resistant to rust, and the 2.0 TDCI felt like a rocket ship, the amount of torque from low revs and the effortless cruising speeds. You can see why they were so popular. With the quality and content of your videos, I'm sure 20k subscribers, won't take long!
What a conicidence! You know, I was just thinking about replacing the rear wheel bearings on my Volvo C30 just yesterday, since I'll be down there replacing the disks, pads, and the dust cover (which quite literally disintegrated when I was washing the alloys with my flexible toilet brush). The bearings need to come off to replace the dust covers. They're only £50 or so a pop, and the old ones might be tired after 115k or so miles.
Congrats on your 10K subscribers. I am not a mechanic, but do work on cars occasionally. It's a good job you don't work on Toyota Prius hub bearings. The front ones are hard to remove, due to galvanic corrosion. I did a friends wheel bearing last week and used a sledge hammer with iron ingot as a drift. Laying the hub carrier on a metal support on the ground, it took only a few hefty blows with the sledge hammer to remove the bearing. I have a 10 ton press but could not bring it with me. Plus the previous time I tried to use the press on the other bearing, it didn't budge. Same with a garage 20 ton press! I learnt the disc removal technique using a bolt, a long time ago. Never fails. I watch a lot of mechanic videos, and your is entertaining as well as educational. Make of car does not matter as some parts are similar in design. Keep the videos coming. 👍👍
sounds like it was faulty from new to fail at that mileage but thanks for letting us know...you are at this moment the only person to have replaced a rear bearing
Glen here I'm driving a mk5 mondeo 2015 as a taxi in Dublin I have a chirping or squeak on the rear passenger side from cold it takes 20 mins before it starts chirping I've replaced disk pad and shock its still the same noise..it attracts attention everyday..im going mad..
Er, I think you will find that ~250k miles is only one way to the moon... or back! ha! anyway, seriously, cheers for the videos they are super helpful and congrats on 10k.
Well done, now you can ask UA-cam for a Silver play button ! How about a recall video covering the items that the mk5 has been recalled for, the latest one is a battery sensor corrosion issue ? Do all the cars go back to ford of do they issue you with a van load of the parts when there is a recall ?
@@alan4x I have had 3 recalls on my 16 plate diesel, a clip on the fuel line, software for more bells and whistles when the engine overheats due to low coolant, and the battery sensor one. Potential leakage of battery acid around the battery negative terminal could cause the battery monitoring sensor to fail. Over time growth of copper sulphate may accumulate. This, in turn, could provide a conductive layer underneath the Battery Monitoring Sensor, creating a low resistance to ground. The increased current flow, due to low resistance, could cause the surrounding material to heat up to a point where it ignites, resulting in a fire. The Ford Mondeo models affected by this recall were manufactured between 13 February 2014 and 11 February 2019. Ford recall code: 18P11

I have Galaxy 2013year WA6 similar platform and same type bearings. At 146K one rear bearing went. Maybe heavier car or the fact is taxi and does city miles or something ? I had one replaced at Ford for nearly £300. Now at 151K other side rear bearing went. Time to follow your tips and do it myself. Hope my Delphi scanner will wind calipers back tho :)
I replaced both my rear bearings on my 2009 Mondeo at 100k miles. Used cheap aftermarket eBay ones. Big mistake. Have had to replace both again after less than 10,000 miles
