no fluff , just good directions including torque specs with clear narrative! Thx!
Thanks for the note and really glad you like it!
So this will be the first time I change spark plugs myself on my FJ. I used to practice on my piece of junk Altima. You're video was by far the easiest and most visually clear to follow on UA-cam. Thanks! !
All done! Went great, got some new NGK plugs in my FJ yesterday morning. Went very well. Now my boss wants me to do the same to her FJ, will do it again on Tuesday. Couldn't have done it without this helpful Video. Thanks again. Have a good one!
13 years later, your video is still helping folks DIY wrench on their own rigs.
thanks! that is why I did it... pay it back to the universe.
You guys have the best maintenance videos. Thank you for making maintenance so painless!
Thanks for the note... glad they help.
Awesome, will tackle this job myself on Thursday. Found a Craftsman torque Wrench that measures 0-50 ft. lbs. of torque for about 20 bucks at Sears like you mentioned above. My FJ really needs this done, i've got about 70,000 miles on my baby and never changed the plugs. Thanks, great video.
@TheHorefrost Thanks for the note... Yes, Toyota originally used both NGK and DENSO spark plugs since both companies were chosen as OME.
It is always good to follow Manufacture's recommendation... experienced old school guys can feel it... we still use a torque wrench to ensure we don't over or under tighten the plugs which can cause problems. check craftsman (sears) for a good one that will last. BTW: we have two one that is low end and another that goes up to 150 ft/lbs
My 07 fj has 121k miles on her, guess I should replace them. Great video!
Thats funny, i just changed my spark plugs on my 07 fj last night. For the driver side, i just took the air filter and tube that connects to the fender out. I didn't take out the whole air cleaner assembly like you did and i got to them super easy. Im wondering now if i should replace the coil packs before i have a problem with them
You forgot to mention not to drop the coil pack bolts if you had skid plates. Took me longer to find the bolt than to change the plugs. haha
Thanks for the vid!
Thanks a ton! I just changed mine at 120K miles, and they really looked like they needed it! There was a little darkened oil on the threads of one of the old plugs (closest to driver). Do I need to replace gaskets? Perhaps just drive a little and inspect the new plug for oil? Thx for the help.
Excellent video, thanks so much for taking the time to make this available!
What was the name of the 8 bit song you used? By the way your video was very helpful and easy to understand.
Newbie here,
Are all sparkplugs torqued to 15 ft pounds? Does not matter the brand of sparkplugs?
Tthank you
Great instructional video. Thank you. You mentioned that little air hose on the back of the air box. Funny, in taking it off the end of the nipple came with it! Does having that little air hose not attached to the air box have consequences and if yes please inform me as to what they may be. Great job again thanks, very helpful 😎
I only have a torque wrench that goes up to 15 in. pounds. Will that be good enough to tighten those spark plugs? Thanks
Thx lastgreatroadtrip... Very helpful information to a non-mechanical individual.
@BigDave331 Not sure for the Camry... Check a Camry Forum on-line or give any dealer a call and ask to talk with a service tech.
Nice video. It was a useful refresher for me before doing this job. One comment: I'm surprised you say to remove the air cleaner assembly. Removal of the air filter housing should be enough to get access to the passenger side plugs.
risajajr you can get away without removing it but we wanted to demonstrate the method described buy Toyota. Thx for pointing it out.
Understood. It still leaves me wondering why Toyota would recommend that. The passenger side is quite accessible w/o removing it. The driver side is a bit tougher, so I can see the need to remove a few hoses and brackets for that side.
Nice video, but you neglected to explain how to disconnect the electrical at the front left base of the air cleaner assembly. How do you remove the plastic clips without breaking them? Again, very clear and concise description of changing the plugs.
Putting in some top of the line NGK this morning in, 178K km 😅
good job!
this video is perfect they were charging me about $600 at the dealer to replace my spark plugs! doesn't look too hard. one question I do want to ask is; what's the point of changing the spark plug?
polojackson21 spark plugs have come a long way but they still need to be replaced. All that heat, moisture in the fuel and carbon eventually takes its toll on the electrodes.
thanks buddy
Stealership!
@MrFurrynickel thank you very much... Glad you liked it.
@videodude4 thank you... check out the credits at the end of the video for all the music... btw: we appreciate all the artist out there who publish their music under "Creative Commons" license.
Great everything، including the birds in the background.
thanks for the kind words
Question on Gaping the spark plugs. what if you wanna use Diamond 3E spark plug? and there's no way to gap that kind of spark plug. (?????)
FJ Crush Bill Hawkins haven't used them but I understand you have to order specific to your vehicle because they are gap at the factory so you wont have too.
Hello, I just purchased Denso Iridium Power Plugs (ikh20-5344). Do they come pre-gapped? if not what is a good gap for these plugs? same as non iridium?
Cool... We sure do get the shaft up here by the canadian auto industry... despite the canadian $ being at par with the USD.Prices up here are based on the exchange rate in the 90s.
$25 in parts, and with the help of this great video, I am going to do it myself this weekend
I didn't have to remove anything other than the bracket. Mine had NGK on the drivers side and Denso on the passenger. I bough the car used with 94k on it and looks like they never changed them out lol gap was at like 60 and wasn't having any issues that I'm aware of.
+ReplacingBox They were factory installed... half and half. The ECU does a great job of compensating. thx for the note.
Great vid. But if you have some ratchet extensions, long ones, you’ll fine you barely need to remove anything. Air cleaner is about it,
Try it, you’ll be surprised.
Thanks for the kind words and let us know on our facebook page how it goes for you.
Thanks... Glad you like it.
Cool can't wait to try it!

muchas gracias me ayudó bien
Thanks! Great vid!
Wow.. where do you live man...
Over here in Saskatoon, Canada... I just got a quote for 460 + taxes!!! WTF?
Agreed. Screw the stealership
THANKS !!
torque spec is incorrect. The 15 lbs ft of torque is a dry setting. This needs reduced if anti-seize compound is used.
+CastIron If the plugs are zinc coated you wont need ant-seize compound
What would be the exact torque setting if the anti-seize compound is used?
@@MelodyDorman there is no spec when using anti sieze. I suppose someone could calculated it, but doing by feel is always best in my opinion.. Hand tight in, back it out, hand tight in again. Doing it twice would help break off any carbon in the threads that might be preventing full seating. They won't back out or come loose.
It would also be a good idea to have a feel for what aluminum feels like when the threads are stripping out. Might want to purposely strip threads on something aluminum so you know what it feels like.
nice
@hp11208 Thank you!
@TheMadRaver ha ha... ouch... I hate when that happens :-)

Toyota charges $80 for this
