How to Throw a Beautiful $500 Wedding

- How little money do you think you could spend getting married? This bride and groom say they had a dreamy wedding, and spent only $500! Kiara and Joel Brokenbrough told Inside Edition how they got married in a public park, and Kiara made all the invitations herself. The flowers were gifted by her godmother, and her mom, a pastor, married them. It was no small affair, with 40 guests who were invited to a reception at a restaurant and who picked up their own individual tabs.
I honestly LOVE this!! Why start a marriage with possible debts or ruined financially after spending so much on a wedding? They even had a good time, as shown in the video, at the restaurant. She was very smart and resourceful. 👏
I'd love to pay and pick for my own meal at a wedding, rather then have my loved ones spending a fortune and having a set meal that half the guests won't really enjoy. So much nicer!
Wedding* and this couple is an example you don't have to break the bank to get married.
@@jamilaghazi8119 Yup!!!
I'm also so glad that the family and friends understood their situation and was happy to attend even after being informed their gonna pick up their own tabs. Some like going to weddings for the free booze.
@@bizm Yes exactly. I would love that. It just goes to show how loved the couple is by family and friends who still went even though they'd pay for their own. Some people love the free booze.
Man im such a fan of this. We did something similar. It was around 500 dollars but we only had each others parents/grandparents. Congrats to this couple!
Simple, inexpensive and drama free. Gotta love it!!
Gotta love wedding
That's wonderful! I hope to do something similar one day.
This is going to be a new trend, you go girl. I'm gonna do this when I get married
Same my parents actually giving birth to me at toilet and it cost $0 dollars
Smart move. A wedding calls for a celebration, not an economic burden.
You said it! Save that money for the purchase of a home.
@@frankm.5505 Dude they knew before hand and still decided to come. Obviously their okay with it. Go mope elsewhere.
i find wedding so over rated like I would rather go to a private honeymoon than burning my money to show off to some family guest that I don't like
@@frankm.5505 Consider it the hospitality gift they bring to honor the host.
Well said! I hope this becomes the trend. Congrats to this couple for having the idea and to their friends for being on board with it.
This. THIS is the way to do it. My folks had their wedding with just close family, at my uncle's house and home-cooked food. They just had their 50th wedding anniversary 🥰
And this is a marriage that will actually last forever! They will tell their story to their great grandchildren God willing!
And probably charge them for it too lol

My wife and I married on her parents farm. Beautiful fields in the back ground didn't cost us anything but the cost of Lumber for the arch
I got married for just under $1000, and my wedding dress was my prom dress that I paid $40 for. So WTG! Cheap weddings ROCK!

This is what I call to be creative! My wedding "celebration" was pretty much for free, as I only wanted to sign the papers, but some good friends decided such an important moment in my life deserved more than that. A friend had the license, so she married us for free. Another friend had a small cake baked for me and offer her small apartment for the venue and some yummy food. Another friend dragged me to TJmaxx and got a nice dress under $25, and also made me a bouquet. Since my fiance had to return the original ring last minute (too big) I bought myself one at Walmart (I got the real one a week later). My in laws and about 6 people joined us (my parents lived abroad). It wasn't that we didn't have the money (we did), but I wanted to save all the stress that comes with planning a weeding. It was an intimate great moment, and I will always be grateful to those who made it possible.
Sweet!
We took care of the $650 bill at Cheesecake Factory for our 13 guests but they were wonderful to us and everything was dreamy and sweet. My dress was on Craigslist for $99, I called it the Goodwill wedding. So many things found and with team work, 1 month - totally feasible to have an inexpensive wedding. Cake and beer at my moms house. It was the best. 2.22.22 💕 love this story.
Congratulations 🎊🎉🍾
What a gorgeous couple! Good for y'all for not going into massive debt at the start of your marriage.
You can go to the courthouse for free and have a barbecue with a few friends/family for like 150 and everyone gets fed 😂
I personally wouldn't be comfortable with my guests picking up their own tab, but even if they did pay for that, assuming they spent $30 each on food and alcohol that's still a $1,700 wedding, which is super impressive, well done to you two.
I also would not let them pick up the tab but you can also put on the invite that they don't have to buy you a wedding gift a nice card will do.
@@misshoneynevercame4832 yup, my boyfriend and i live together already and when we do get married, we dont need more appliances or house gifts.
Her guests were support system. They were perfectly comfortable paying for their food.
If my friend invited me to her wedding I would gladly pay. 🤷🏾♀️
Not a big deal at all. I’ll do anything to support her.
@@jazdavies2407 right...I believe in supporting young people starting out.
The guest should be picking up there own tab matter a fact everyone should be picking up the bride an husband tab it’s there day why everyone else getting treated.
I don't know about making guest pay for their own food and beverage when YOU invited THEM....but I guess, to each their own. 🤷🏽♀️
Overall, this was a good idea.
I'm not sure why people feel the need to have a big, grandiose wedding/reception with a pricey dress that they're only gonna wear once and stuff in a closet to collect dirt & dust.
Small, simple and affordable is the way to go. Hell, even a justice-of-the-peace wedding isn't a bad idea. 🤷🏽♀️
No need to break the bank. Save it for a house.
They both looked great.
I think it makes sense cuz Imagine spending all this money just for them not to show up
Literally everything was fine until they made the guests pay for their food.
@@JamesJiansen The guests had a choice and in this case, I like their idea
@@JamesJiansen the guest were fine with it. Its not a big deal. Its their wedding and every seemed happy.

Wow I love this, now I don’t dread having a nice ceremony if I ever have one 😅 their celebration looked amazing. No need for all of the fancy stuff if it’s only for one day.
As someone who is European you would never ever be able to ask people to pay for their own food. If anything you need to make sure you have double the amount of food and double the amount of alcohol you think you need
I'm European too and you absolutely right! I was shocked at the first wedding that I attended that it was so short and the bar was closing offen (breaks like every 30 min) till it got closed at 9 pm and everyone bye.
@@slonecznikdoniczkowy trying being African, middle eastern and Asian we never let anyone people for food

@Jesus is coming. Read the Gospel. You should repent first, for wasting your time by making an useless account and spamming meaningless comments about fairy tales.
We married in New Orleans with only close family members. We’re from Los Angeles so we decided to take a family trip and get married. It was the best choice. We didn’t spend more then 2,000 on the whole trip, dress included, cake and food. We ended our night with a boat ride on the Mississippi River that included a bar on sight, Jazz music and a buffet. Not to mention the night tours on a horse and carriage. This was right before the pandemic in 2019. Best decision ever made.
Very nice, love the backdrop for the ceremony! I’m getting married in August and Taxes absorbed my backdrop budget. Going to incorporate her ideas.
Congrats on your soon to be marriage
Congratz..n hope u get great n beautiful weeding that u want🤗
Beautiful wedding. I personally would’ve prepared & had catered food but still very nice. Best wishes ❣️
The brides dress WoW she looked like she should be a model to me. Congrats to the newlyweds!
Thank you!
the simpler and cheaper the wedding is usually comes with less money problems and stress, who would've thought. Of course, you do you if you have the means to have an expensive wedding but don't sleep on how awesome a budget wedding can be.
Good job! It's not how much the wedding costs. It's the love between 2 people and God 💕
They have quite a diverse crowd in race and age. Most people these days when they get married, they only invite "attractive" young people" so their wedding looks lit. Brides don't pick who is their bestie anymore, but who looks good on camera. I recall someone I knew, who intentionally dumped her long-time friends, so she could make more attractive friends with influencer accounts close to her wedding date, so she could have an attractive group of bride's maids. She put on her wedding page "million follower wedding", that's all her bride's and husband's group combined.
They're relationship is authentic unlike those fake influencera who either avoid fat and old family members on camera or dont invite them at all.
@@SkippyLaughlin Tell me about it, I can't stand Instagram or youtube anymore, I uninstalled it because of the fake ass videos. Saw channel the other day and this girl does is have matching outfits of her 2 other friends and they just get to together in every video and twerk or dance in bikinis. Like is this what you do all day?
Wow…😳what’s wrong with this world.
You’re telling the truth I found this out in 2010
That's how much my wedding was. My sister had a wedding dress she didn't want anymore. Wasn't her style. I got it for free. Had it at my church. I provided cake but had people bring their food like a potluck. My other sister was the wedding photographer. Dont waste money on wedding used it to buy a house or car
Congrats on your marriage!
The amazing thing is all the people attending honestly wanted to celebrate the couple. So many people paid their own tab at the restaurant.
I see a lot of people stressing about guests having to pay for food but you could also tell them they don't have to bring a gift to your wedding. Let them write something in your wedding book and everything's fine.
Sorry making guests pay is tacky. Asking for gifts is also tacky.
Good for you! You go girl!
I couldn’t do it but good for them IF they’re happy. This was a lifetime memory and I didn’t come short. I spent $8500 on my wedding, got more than 10k back on wedding day. I’m Nigerian so we throw money at the bride and groom. Whatever you do, make sure you’re happy with you’re decision. Rather than be miserable later.
HER DRESS IS SO PRETTY SHES LOOKS AMAZING IN IT
This is what i want for my wedding. Something simple yet beautiful with only the people that matter to me. Why spend thousands and invite a whole bunch of people that i don’t even know.
Definitely doing this for my wedding
At Vietnamese weddings. Guest pay for their seats. Pretty much a cash gift. Couples usually make their money back, and in some cases make a profit to start their lives.
Just only invite Asians lol
I've been to multiple Vietnamese weddings and they're usually at Chinese restaurants and I never had to pay for my food lol. You ain't getting no cash gift from me AND make me pay for myself wtf 😂
You know good job. The last thing a newlywed couple needs to worry about it a overpriced one day affair.

Love this! On our wedding day. We paid $30 for the venue. At a library gazebo. Husbands tux was a thrifted find for $10. Took to a cleaners first and it fit perfect! I wasn't so lucky with a wedding dress thrifted find.I paid $200 for a free people dress. We had a dessert reception first. Then my whole wedding party took a short walk across the river bridge to the park. Where there was a music festival. We paid for all the tickets to enter. But our guests bought their own food at the many food booths that they had there.I even got to toss my bouquet off the stage. Whole wedding cost just under two thousand.
Spend what you can on a wedding. People go into debt for their weddings. Great way to start off a marriage! These people did it right. Good for them. And that placed looked bad ass.

So smart. I probably spent the same amount on my wedding but I didn’t invite any guests. Just close family. This was a beautiful celebration. And kudos to the guests who participated…they seem like a good support system for this couple.
Lovely Story!! Wonderful to see such a beautiful couple Win!!
Yep! That's EXACTLY what I did.. Live in Florida, Gulf Coast so sand is white.. Blue off the shoulder shirt, high slit flowing white skirt, so guests just wear light blue and white.. Went to the beach, 35 guests, pictures taken by my DIL, excellent pictures and we matched the sand and ocean... All went out to the restaurant to eat, 4 drink max each.. We spent TOTAL, $1372.19!!
Posted our pictures and have received so many compliments because DIL knew how to take the perfect pictures and angles or whatever!! Funny thing is, now my husband, after 7yrs, wants the elaborate wedding redo for our 10th anniversary LOL.... I HATE WEDDING PLANNING! Literally went 1 day dress shopping and I was done with it ALL 🤣🤣 Hubby says he's paying for a wedding planner for him!! Lol
This might just be how weddings have to be these days.
I think they were really smart (not cheap) about it.
IMO.. this ensures that the people who go to your wedding actually care about you. If they love you, they will be there for you at your happiest moment.

Terrible making guests pay. The guy could have picked up the restaurant tab. Embarrassing
Well yeah , the wedding is affordable if all your guest pay for their food ,drinks abd people gift you the things you need. 🤦♀️
14 years ago my husband and I wanted to put money toward our 1st house so I found my dress at a resale shop for $200 and had it altered, found a baker who made a beautiful delicious cake for a few hundred, stayed at a bed breakfast n biscuit (dog friendly cabin) near Austin for the wedding and honeymoon, I made all the decor and bouquets, and the hosts cooked a delicious BBQ dinner. We kayaked and cycled and had fun with our dogs for our week honeymoon. 15 people and 7 dogs were at the wedding. We sent out announcements to everyone else after.
Smart!!! Save your money for a home and investments.
Totally respectable! I’m also not planning to break the bank for my wedding. The only thing is I’d love to feed my guests so that’ll rack up the bill a bit.
Couldn't even feed us 🤣
Congrats to them! Enjoying a moment there never gunna forget and showing that money does not buy happiness or memories!

Congratulations to them! my wedding dress was a $30 white prom dress I got from Ross. Wedding venue costed $600 but came with decorations, cake and photographer included in the cost. Reception dinner my mom paid for and honeymoon, mother in law paid for so in the end it really didn't cost us much at all other than honeymoon spending on food and activities.
It shows that weddings doesn’t need to be expensive 👍

Thank you! Proof you don't need to spend gobs of money on your big day. I could never understand the huge fancy weddings. "Hey, look at all the money we have, you could never afford this!" Yeah, you mean look at all the money that just left your bank account, the money you no longer have because you wanted to show off.

$50 for the license. No one showed up. just my husband and I and the wedding officiant (She married us for free) . I didn't wear a fancy dress or anything like that. It was so simple just the way I wanted it. After the wedding we drove to my job and I got to work. 🤷♀️
