Autistic Teen Missing for 3 Years Found 700 Miles From Home

- A young man found outside on a frigid night near the resort town of Park City, Utah, was discovered to be the teenager who had been reported missing from California three years ago, authorities said. Police found him at a gas station after someone reported seeing the man sleeping there. He seemed to be a match for Connerjack Oswalt, an autistic teenager who vanished from his home in Clearlake, California, in 2019 when he was 16. His family was contacted and his step-father confirmed it was him.
The kid is not dumb, he survived on his own for three years. He left for a reason. We just need to find out why.
I agree, the parents look a little sus..
Considering the mom had her son missing for 3 years and didn’t go in person herself when told he was found…
I love how you call him smart but your name is clueless
Hes in cali, and he is autistic. Of course he left those parents. I can't even imagine what he went through, considering im in a more constrictive state than cali and i have to hide alot of me just so i dont worry abt my life at stake. i hope he gets away again.

I'm glad to see that everyone is questioning what's going on.
They just wanted to make a “heart warming story”.. plus making his autism out to be a big deal to stray from the fact he felt the need to run away from home. The boy wasn’t even interviewed, and the parents wanted that news attention??? Hell nah get him out of there
He's still not home yet and I don't think he's going to that home. He's in the care of social workers until a judge finishes ordering his release from those parents.
I know what going on, he’s my brother who left my birth mother because she lied to him and her new husband jerry flint got ima fight with him
@@furrtasticday4037 he is your brother?
Yeah, what is this mindless nonsense? The one obvious question, the one massive concern, he should not be sent home as far as I can tell... And not a mention of it. Such a stupid oversight that it prompted 50,000 viewers to all ask the same question, and made this video trend from all that engagement

As an adult with Autism, I left my family because I was being picked on and blamed for being born the way I am. I mean, I still get it where I am, but I don't live with the people who make fun of me. We aren't dumb, just vastly misunderstood.
dang i can tell your way smarter then i am lol
My girlfriend has the same problem with her family. They're constantly picking on her and making her overwhelmed. I just wish we could live together..
Exactly!
I have autism too and feel my family don’t understand me
I'm autistic too. I had to get as far away as I could from my parents, because they tried to make me keep taking fake "autism cures" that left me sick.
As a person with Autism, this seems very off. For instance, his parents do not seem very excited that they found him. This seems very suspicious to me and I'm really worried for this guy.
Genuinely asking, what does you having autism have to do with the rest of your comment?
Yup,I agree with you something is off about this story.
@ゆずる his step dad could of been having a shock response
Agree
Exactly how I feel about this situation. Listen to how she forces herself to act like she's happy. It's kinda sickening looking at her do this. Also why do we not hear from the young man ? Not a single second of an interview or anything besides the first police interaction & he was silent 🤔 something is very wrong here..
I lost a friend who did something just like this, he went out in the middle of winter and didn’t make it. So thankful they found Connerjack safe
I'm sorry for the loss of your friend💔
Where did you guys live?
so sorry for your lost man. my condolences ❤️

@Lonely Warrior lonely part of your username checks out
after watching the whole way through I agree with everyone's sentiment, the parents didn't seem all that happy and the son's reluctance to cooperate definetly says something as to the possible reason he disappeared in the first place, all the luck to this guy, lord knows he needs it
I almost felt like the mother's response was staged.
True
I don't think there is any real basis to your claims of "the parents didn't seem at all that happy". I know a lot of this skepticism is out of concern, but you also gotta consider the heaviness of what you imply, and who it could hurt if you're wrong.
I’m not a doctor but couldn’t reluctance be part of his autism?🤔
@@Sharyk808 I'm not a doctor either, but wandering is commonly attributed with autism, according to a decent number autism sites.
He survived 3 years on his own. Kids do not run away for nothing. And the way she said, 'my sweetheart' made me crawl. Not loving not honest. Hope the guy gets away and gets help. Bless him.
Perfect observation. That "sweetheart" was for the police to hear. Stepdad looks nervous as hell. Mom: "I never stopped looking." Stepdad: "Everyday" Yeah.. no.
When you see these stories of kids who have been missing for quite some time, they always show us some kind of effort that the family had put into finding their lost child. From Facebook posts pleading for people to share and help- to a flyer with their child's picture on it that they had passed out to strangers. It's a feel-good story and I have noticed that whoever is in charge of writing those types of news stories, they ask for family to show things like this. It's a great way to show how they went from near hopelessness, with nothing but a piece of paper with their missing child's picture on it- to extreme joy as they reunite with the child they desperately searched for.
This woman said she never stopped looking, step dad's attempt at convincing us that she looked every day.. and she was waiting for a knock on the door? Or waiting to open the door and he would be standing there? No mention of someone contacting her on Facebook or getting a phone call. No, she was just waiting for a knock on the door...
It's a miracle that he survived during the lockdown.

Maybe it’s me, but the stepfather didn’t seem all that thrilled that this young man was found alive. God please continue to cover and bless this young man and keep him safe.
Well, perhaps he met the mom after the teenager disappeared. He never met him. He was in that room and never even saw him in person and had to deliver the news. I don't see anything weird in his reaction.
@@hus390 why would the mom send him to make sure it was her son if he had never met him before?

as an autistic teen, it’s odd people think we’re incapable or our own thoughts. i believe there’s something odd going on though.. he obviously seemed to have leave for a reason. i just don’t know what to think. hope that young man is doing okay.
Autism is a spectrum, some aren't even verbal.
The cops should take a closer look at this case , something is clearly wrong here . The mom looks like she's force crying and the dad doesn't seem ecstatic .That boy ran away for a reason .
It is actually so wild that the story neglected all the points every rational person immediately thinks about this. He can't explain himself well, or at all, but chose three years of being homeless over being with those people... But him being shipped back to them is a joyous celebration, don't ask questions!
The parents obviously sold him to people in Utah for money and just reported him missing to avoid trouble
Here's a question, how and why did he go missing? The parents seem weird/off to me. The dad doesn't exactly display the behavior of someone glad to see their missing child, and the mother's seems a little forced... My guess is the boy ran away from a bad situation, most likely neglect or misunderstanding of the issues regarding his diagnosis.
Or they Joe Dirt-ed him.
Something isn't right here, I want to hear the dudes story. Why he ran away. Get him to speak with a therapist or something.
@@Razor-gx2dq I did more research and apparently he told the officers that he didn't want to go back to his family's house. Also the fact that he has a step father adds to my suspicion. The parents even relocated their house, i think most parents would stay in the same place hoping that eventually their lost son would find his way back home.
Can somebody please explain to me why did he run away from his parent's house? The idea that he ran away for no reason seems very odd to me. Is he scared to tell the truth or what? and sorry for my bad english?

@Christopher Williams Oh wow you’re right, I didn’t even consider the extra difficulty of the pandemic. That’s a very lucky young man right there.
I guarantee they were looking for a reason to arrest him at first. They were finger printing him for what? Why would they need to know who this was if they were truly just trying to let him warm up or whatever? No reason to "find out more about him". They definitely didn't try to find more out because they thought he was the lost kid. They just happened to stumble into him and changed their attitudes about the situation, which is good...but I guarantee this interaction didn't start off with any intention of helping this kid.

that was most certainly an abusive home. Her on camera reaction seems off and the fact that he made it that far for that long, didnt want to give police any important info, and you dont see him reunite with his parents once. Something doesn’t feel right. The way Connor reacts to police finding him and the way the mother sounded in her voice feels a bit more concerning. Normally, any separation reunion tend to be heartwarming and emotional between a lost child and their parents, but I don’t feel any from this one and that feels suspicious. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who felt that way. Why is the step father going and not me as the mother? Nothing would stop me from being there to identify my own child. Nothing !
Got the exact same feeling!!! The mother didn’t feel happy at all??

I see 2 types of people in comments.
1. Congrats, I'm so very happy for them.
2. 3 years away, this boy chose to run and was smart enough to live for 3 years so he knew what he was doing which could signal that he could have been abused or mistreated. The mothers reaction may have been true but very much seemed like acting and definitely felt off. If she genuinely cared for her son, "searching everyday" why would she not be at that sheriffs office with the step dad verifying? Theres a darker side to this story than we know.
Interesting how they don’t show the kid’s side of things and only the parents. I’d very much like to know their son’s thoughts about being returned to the parents. They’re leaving a ton out, like explaining why and how they lost him in the first place. Did he get kidnapped, coerced, or even wanted to run away because they treated him poorly? The parents also didn’t sound all that happy about him being returned either judging by their speech patterns and initial reaction. Until I’m proven wrong, I believe there’s more going on than they’re letting on.
Your absolutely right the parents body language & tone shows that they had something to do with it..
The mom seems kind of tough and rough
The mom's cry was more like a laugh. The most fake reaction that I've ever seen
Yeah, what really bugs me is that the son is autistic. Obviously, if he had high support needs he would have a hard time surviving for three years on his own. Autism is an excuse a lot of people throw around in order to manipulate their kids, infantilize them, and keep them under their control. I’m autistic and can live independently. i can’t speak for Connor, but a lot of us have a hard time expressing our feelings, especially when in emotionally charged situations. He also might just not want to go home.
He's an adult. This isnt even news. I agree that this isn't the entire story.
Please also look into why he left before returning him to that environment. You can never be too careful, especially with vulnerable people.
Exactly. Something is very off here. That mother's crying could not have been more fake.
She loves her men then her son
Thank you exactly
I think he left. He opted not to go back home with them. Something is very off
Right I'm more curious as why he left and stayed away
As an autistic kid who needs freedom from an abusive family. This guy inspires me to runaway from home to have my freedom!
Formulate a plan and let no one in that house what your doing. I mean NO ONE! They will try and sabotage you. If you have a doctor/social worker what you want to do you can confide in, do so. Im sure they will give you some assistance Let them know your situation so they have something to work with if it becomes legal if your still a minor. Just go on as if everything is normal then when you have everything in order( money, travel, housing etc), floor it. Dont look back. Good luck!!!

We heard nothing about the boy who, at this point is old enough to choose to leave home and live independently (if he managed this long, then he would excel in a better environment). No one subjects them self to this without proper reason (I.e running away from a toxic environment, coercion, kidnapping)
frfr
Parents that killed their children do that a lot.
What does "Coercion" mean??
@@gachadlll3530 I’m suggesting that he may have been forced or persuaded to run away. Typically coercion can involve threats of violence or actual violence. It can also be promises of rewards or money (like grooming).
So I wonder whether grooming, threats of violence and other similar things may have led to him being 700 miles away from home.
So coercion is like persuasion but more serious because of the methods used, the outcomes and the potential legal repercussions.
Oh my God that is literally the most amazing news of the year I am so happy that Mama has her child back!
This is so so wonderful 💖
poor kid, cant imagine how painful it is that your son is missing for 3 years and it's just in your mind everyday wondering if he's still alive or not.
Just imagine how it was for the mothers and fathers of World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam war soldiers!
@@retroguy9494 nobody is talking about that 🤦
So he ran away 700 miles from home for three years for no reason at all? Poor kid indeed…
that aint no kid. its a man
@@baklawa4825 Well twas three years.
Three questions: Why did the boy leave in a first place? Why don't the parents look happier? And why wasn't the mom in Utah as well??? If my child is missing for 3years and they contact me he might be found alive, I AM THERE no matter the distance or hour!!!
Please keep up with this child, he might be in a serious trouble being back now 😥
Exactly
He’s an adult, 19. We don’t know his side of the story which is sus, yes but that’s the news for ya. And we also don’t know why the mum couldn’t come up, we shouldn’t pin her being an ass without context.
He isn't back home. In fact, the court's ordering that he doesn't return back to that home. If you find the backstory and missing report, it says he got punished and left home.
But there is so much more to it than that. Conner was living with his BIRTH FATHER and siblings. He was forced back to his mother. Never to see his siblings again. The Step dad treated him like garbage. Constantly Fought with him and conner left. Never looked back.
*After he was found. Evidently his mom was all over Facebook trying to get the videos taken down -to no avail. Bc so many ppl were questioning the samething. CONNERS brothers made a few comments to clear some things up as well.
And again the only thing I saw on the family Facebooks page is them lashing out at people for posting about Conner. Not one reunification photo.
@@danieltribley4557 Interesting news, do you have any links aside from facebook? I'd be very interested to read what went down.
He's an adult now, 19 isn't a child. And you can't make an adult live with other adults.
Getting sick of y’all calling him autistic as if he’s some baby with no ability of judgement or rational thought. He left for a reason and managed to survive on his own. He didn’t want to go back. I hope he is safe
Stepdad seemed annoyed as hell. Mom seemed to be forcing it. What a strange situation…
Very strange how the mother fakes crying when he is found, doesn't go to the station to see him, yet has no problem being filmed for the news. Theres something off with this story. I also read in the comments they moved a long way away less than 6 months after he went missing. Very sus
I love how short they kept this story, just speeding through it like there's nothing else to see here. us Nurodivergent types never really get listened too in the media, people just talk over us and don't even try to listen to what's wrong.
It is discrimination at its worst.😥

Everybody’s talking about the parents and the miracle but nobody’s talking about what the young man was going through or how he felt. There could actually be a lot more to unpack in this story.
These sorts of stories that involve autistic/neurodivergent/disabled people need to be told from their perspective. The boy being homeless for 3 years is not good, of course, but there could be a deeper and more complex meaning behind why he left.
Meaning that he could’ve left deliberately. What if he didn’t just bolt or elope and then forget where his home was? He traveled across THREE states. He could’ve been trying to escape from something. He could have been trying to communicate something very important. He may be autistic, but he’s not a baby. There’s more to this story than just the parents’ pure joy at him coming home.
I read one comment saying that it was reported that the 19-year-old had very little speech, but he could have just not wanted to talk.
I have ASD and when I was in middle school some believed that my language skills were underdeveloped. Although my speech was slightly delayed as a baby, I have always been 100% verbal. Despite this, I was almost completely silent in middle school. I had a highly personal and a highly complex reason for choosing not to talk.
This kid could be in a similar situation. He could be trying to escape from a source of trauma, abuse, and/or neglect.
I always think this when they choose to not interview everyone involved. I hope he's doing alright, I also have ASD and would know that someone wouldn't just change their comfortable everyday routine for no reason.
"from a source of trauma, abuse and/or neglect"
Dude, that's what i was also thinking, they really need security for their 19 yr old son even if he's old enough.
He ran away fr he did. The moms story don’t add up and her crying was fake . Not only that but the whole family moved states? Why would you move states if your kid was missing
What was your reason for not talking in middle school?... my son is also on the spectrum.

Does anyone else get a bad vibe about this? Something just seems "off". He was missing three years, doesn't seem like he can communicate well, if at all, and NOBODY tried to find out who he is or locate his family? It seems that in a case like this, there would be "alerts" all over the place. With every kind of social media option available... . It doesn't add up. Something is NOT right!
Yes..something is off here.
I don't get a good feeling in my gut about this at all. I do not feel like this would be a happy reunion in the least. I'm hoping the officers will do a proper investigation before sending him back to the parents.
Well the kid is back with his family so nothing is off

@@KoId. except he's not. He refused to go back and is an adult.

No word on why he left? No word on why he didn't contact his family? No word from the teen himself?
What's going on here? An Autism diagnosis doesn't mean he's incapable. I'm worried he might be heading back into a dangerous environment.
Agreed
I also wondered if they ditched him in the first place
Yeah something’s very fishy about this
Depends on the severity of the diagnosis though.
Yeah, I’m really suspicious of the complete lack of reason he was gone. If he’s far enough on the spectrum that he isn’t able to contact his parents or reason that he should turn back, I have to question how he managed to get so far, even over three years, let alone survive. It could just be nothing, but something feels… off.
I hope whatever the reason is he left, is investigated. And I hope there's outside transitional support in place.
He just felt like running. He saw Forrest Gump and thought it would be fun to run across United States.
@@IARRCSim don't be so rude he could've had a reason but ur just assuming he wanted to to run
This whole situation terrifies me.
Thank you and God bless
Normally people never get found three years after they go missing, which is more troubling now that he’s returned. Can he really go back to a normal way of life after spending three whole years by himself? He could’ve turned back at any point, why didn’t he? Was there a reason he left in the first place that will inevitably have him run away again? Hopefully those questions can be answered and whatever happens next for the guy makes his life better than the last three years
Maybe he was with someone when he left home. He could have been kidnapped.
@@fuzzamajumula he definitely could’ve been with someone but (although it’s in the realm of possibility) I doubt it was kidnapping, if it was I’m sure he would’ve mentioned to the police. He could’ve left with someone he knew or met online and stayed with them for a time before he ended up on the streets
@@mellohi6175 oh dang

@@mellohi6175 some messed up dark theory. Let’s hope that’s not true.
My question is, why was he missing for so long? Did he run away or was there something else that caused him to go missing? Glad to see they found him!
Depending where he lies on the spectrum children with Autism can elope. A definition of elope would be wandering away or darting from sight. I know this because I raised a child on the spectrum.
I mean he looked like he had a serious case of autism non functional at all he might of had a fit and ran away and just literally got lost and kept moving somehow surviving possibly off the goodness of other people or found a job somewhere but still wondering what’s going on I don’t know but he’s lucky 🍀
@@Umbrellaoflove is it most likely he’ll go missing again or wander off? I know the parents will definitely keep a closer eye now but they cant watch him 24/7…

@@Umbrellaoflove elope means “run away secretly in order to get married”
