  • Most people never get to play seriously great guitars. This guitar comes from my old guitar teacher and it is a guitar that has inspired me for nearly 20 years as I've heard him play it. I'm torn on if I should buy it or not. What do you think?

      @@roderickmathison5245 yes I've seen them on Richards Guitars on UA-cam and they do seem really well made hand made all solid woods for a fraction of the price of a lowden, might look into them more.

    I bought an old Lowden O-10 recently. It is really difficult to put down. It rings, the sustain sometimes chimes, it seems to want more harmonics than most other guitars!
    If you find Lowdens from around 20 years ago for sale, check them out, have a play!

    I purchased a lowden o10 in 96 on the advice of a friend guitar player and 20 years later I happened to get a chance to play A Martin . Straightaway I had to buy A Martin om18 I sold the lowden to my brother
    as I never hardly played the lowden
    I feel that I missed out on the Martin sound Which was my preference over the lowden
    Lowden is more suited for Irish music and open tunings I can’t say that I have missed the lowden

    Hope all is well. I would suggest trying a Bob Thompson guitar or a Maestro Guitar from Singapore. Bob makes great guitars, especially his African Blackwood models. Hozen from Mastro makes an incredible Purpleheart model, but he has a great source of tonewoods. He also answers very fast if you send him a message. If you ever come across a Headway Guitar from Japan, def try it. Best of wishes. Really like your videos.

    MY LOWDEN (I’m so happy and blessed to be able to say those words) is an exceedingly rare O-50 Winter Edition Sinker Rosewood (that’s right: SINKER rosewood, which none of my luthier or guitarista friends even knew existed) over high altitude European spruce. Sounds super-fancy, right? Well, I went down to Drum-n-Strum in Warrenton, Va, and played other Lowden O models, and they sounded 90+% as good. And some might like them better than mine: The Sinker Rosewood adds insane amounts of harmonics that some might find too distracting. Bottom line: Sell whatever you have to sell, in order to buy that Lowden.

    I like the sound but I don't love it,And I will only buy a guitar that I love,I own eight guitars that I fell in love with,I found that you have to play a lot of guitars and no two guitars will sound a like.I have Taylors and Martins and not everyone is a Taylor or Martin person but I could care less what brand it is as long as I love the playability and the sound ,I feel really blessed with my guitars Im in love with.I have almost forty thousand dollars invested in eight guitars and I had a friend that passed away and right before he died he gave me a cheap Red white and blue it was either a jasmine or a Indiana I can't remember but it was a freak it was one of the best sounding guitar that I ever heard I mean I don't know if someone rebuilt it but man that thing was shocking at how it played and sounded bit unfortunately someone stoled it ,But sometimes a cheap guitar can really surprise you.Im looking at a Taylor nylon string guitar and everyone that I've played has been expensive but I'm tore which model I want because they are absolutely beautiful and play and sound as beautiful as they look.i love all of the ones I've played but I'm having a hard time deciding on the one I'm taking home.Alsi I'm looking for a Guild D-55 and everywhere I have went either don't have one or already sold it ,I don't usually buy a used guitar but I bought a 1980 Martin D-28 that I actually would not take ten thousand dollars for,Also the same goes for a 2015 614ceTaylor I bought brand new These guitars are two of the easiest and best sounding guitars that I've ever played or owned,But my other six guitars are Really really great sounding guitars as well and I wouldn't never part with them,If someone actually asked me to sell my guitars at ten thousand dollars I don't think I could because some guitars are unreplaceable especially when you get ones that really stand out those don't come often.I really enjoy watching your videos and I have a great love for guitars especially special ones that's melts your heart.

    Within the first 30 seconds I knew that guitar had a cedar top. Don't take this wrong but the reason I knew is because my Seagull s6 has a solid cedar top. That mid range and bass resonating through cedar is unmistakable to me. Did you say the body of the guitar was indian rosewood? Anyhow, should you buy the Lowden? I say you should play back this video and observe the expression on your face, the way your body sways, the way you are strumming, fingering the guitar. Clearly you have a deep attachment to it. Perhaps you should consider selling one or two of the other guitars you have in your collection in order to offset the cost of the Lowden. From the way you look while playing the Lowden I would guess that it would be a worthy sacrifice - barring the sale of two guitars in order to get the Lowden perhaps you would consider selling your 2nd born child? LOL...just kidding of course. Buy the Lowden. and don't look back. You only live once and life is short.

    Nice guitars but Lowdens are way overpriced. You can get a beautiful '60s Martin D-28 for less and still have money left over for a nice Guild. I've heard better sounding Martins and Zagers.

    • @IndigoJo
      @IndigoJo 4 роки тому

      Over here, vintage Martins cost way more than a new Lowden (the 22-32 lines, not the boutique 35-50 lines) and even new Martins are more than 2/3 the cost of a Lowden because of exchange rates (the pound has plummeted against the dollar because of Brexit). That's an old Lowden from when a whole different team (now known as Avalon) were making them.

    • @scorpiodog2
      @scorpiodog2 3 роки тому +2

      The big body Lowdens and Martin D28s excel in different areas. Bluegrass is far better on a Martin, but they can’t do finger style like a Lowden. The Lowden overtones and note separation are so far superior to a Martin (or most other guitars, really) that to use them for flatpicking just muddies the water. I don’t own a Lowden, but I do own an Avalon and also a HD 28. I love them both, but they can’t both do the same job with the same aplomb.

    • @IndigoJo
      @IndigoJo 3 роки тому

      By flatpicking, do you mean strumming? I'd agree that Lowdens aren't really made for that (though perhaps the spruce top ones are more suitable; most have cedar tops). If actual flatpicking, that's what Lowden brought the F body shape in for.

    • @scorpiodog2
      @scorpiodog2 3 роки тому +1

      @@IndigoJo No I meant flatpicking. I know the F shape was designed by George Lowden for flatpicking, but to my ear it’s not as good at it as a Martin. However, it is a fantastic finger picker. That’s my opinion, YMMV. But this one isn’t an F shape anyway.

      Two or three years ago, I bought a used O25, circa 2002 or 2003 I think, for $2,150 plus tax. I guess I got the deal of the century as it is far better suited to my finger picking than my D-41. You have to keep looking. Don't be intimidated by Reverb pricing.
