Wish Muse would just release an album of all these "unknown" and B-sides. Have dug out some of these and downloaded them; also the Hullabaloo bonus cd has some great ones, but we as fans NEED all their music!!!!
I love muse songs between showbiz and absolution especially the b sides because of their message which has always been a fascinating concept to me: Degradation of the human being (socially, mentally, etc) caused by technology.
it stands for Extended Play, its usually a Cd that has more songs then the original single. Like the single, muscle museum, had 3 track, and muscle museum EP had 6 tracks.
Alain De Bitssbailledrey No, you're the "dumbass". The new stuff is not a patch on their older stuff. Its different and more radio friendly, but no way near as good or unique as thier older work. Now run along child.
Lucky79 I'm not a child, dude, I'm a Muse huge fan since Showbiz and then Hullabaloo, and they did never disappoint me. For me if a band keep on doing the same stuff again and again, where is the creativity ? It's obviously noraml for a rock band to try and experiment new ways to play their instrument, new music types, like we heard with T2L. And now Drones reminds me a lot of Absolution, so to me they've gone back to basics, even if I'd love to hear masterpieces like OoS again, I have total faith in this band. What they do now isn't trash, it's different, apparently you've never played music in your life, because if you did, you should now that an artist needs to change his habits, and if there is no evolution between the first and the 7th album, then you could call this band trash. See what I mean ?
Alain De Bitssbailledrey Well perhaps you shouldn't have opened with calling me a "dumbass" then we wouldn't be in this position we find ourselves in now. You do realise my initial comment was from before the release of Drones? The 2nd Law was by far and away their worst album. It was just horrible to listen to, and yes.....it is "trash". How do you know I've never played music? I played keyboard, guitar as well as a host of other instruments over the years. Never make assumptions. Change isn't always good you know? I'm not saying "make 7 identical albums", but it does make me chuckle when people throw in the old ".....but they're evolving" line.....just because something is different, doesn't make it better, or even as good as what it was before. Let's be honest, they were at a point where they could have quite easily gone back to their roots and created an album in the mould of the first two albums and everyone would have rejoiced. I actually like Drones, excluding one or two tracks. It's not their best work, but not their worst either. It was good enough to prompt me to get tickets for the tour. Morale of the story: check dates on youtube comments before you reply. And don't call them a "dumbass" straight off the bat. Have a good new year.
@SamAdlington1 The original version which featured on the Muscle Museum EP under the name "Instant Messenger" featured the AOL voice saying "You've got post". However, due to legal pressure from the aforementioned company, this was removed for the single version and the song was renamed "Pink Ego Box".
This song is full of awesome chord progressions, much like many other Muse b-sides. I wish he'd write more mainstream stuff in this style, so that people who only hear their singles could hear how talented he is! I love Muse, but it annoys me a bit how all their popular songs are a little less musically intricate than the ones that are kept secret, like this one!
Is just that the original version "Instant messenger" Had a little variations, Like Ej, in the begining it said "you got post" (or sth like that xD im not native english) But that little voice clip was Copyrighted By AOL, so they changed the song, and renamed it "Ping Ego Box" :D! MUSE ROXS!
It is his voice, lol. Its just because this is one of their earlier songs, before the were really well known, i think. Their music has changed a lot since then lmao.
@luciiaa8 It was originally called Instant Messenger, and it originally had the AOL woman speaking at the start, but they had to remove it and change the name because of copyright infringement.
I read something about they had to rename the song because of the "you got post" in the beginning, had to do with AOL or some messenger company. They were getting sued so they needed to change the title, something like that.
it's not available as a cd in america.... not sure where you live; it might be there. but the album thingy it was on is called Random 1-8, i think. hope that helps :)
@maniacchris You could say that, but i think they've just grown, they would'nt be doing stadium tours if they would have carried on sounding like this, no matter how much we love it :)
it used ta be called Instant Messenger and its on the albums, Random 1-8, Muscle Museum EP, and the 2nd CD of the single, Muscle Museum. dont know bout the whole b-side thing though..
So this is the kind of stuff RH fans like to say that "LOL MUSE SOUNDS LIKE RADIOHEAD". Can't say I disagree with them on this one... I'm really glad Muse made their own sound though, OoS is my favorite album OF ALL TIME
@TheRaider0fTombs Pretty much, but instant messenger was changed because of legal stuff from AOL, this doesnt have the 'youve got post' bit at the beginning :)
@mryoshihead1995toast actually instant messenger had an aol voice at 0:24 saying "you've got post." legal trouble with AOL led them to rename it pink ego box and take out the voice
@megalomania29 Nah it isn't. It's a b-side but originally came under the name on Instant Messenger. They have tons of them, you should check some more out...I have 127 Muse tracks atm and I still think there's more to be found XD xx
@putridpedros Well I say... you're speaking as if you might know me. I don't know who you are, but I am actually an old man from outer Mongolia. Thank you your supporting comment though.
It was called Instant Messenger but they renamed it after the original had to be edited because of a sound clip from the AOL instant messenger that had to be taken out.

Msmuseaddict well they are now
they made a meaningful song about instant messaging. No other band could pull that off.
Matt Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme and Dom Wilson:
THE MOST talented 3 people in existance.
7 years late but... Wilson? hahhahaha
Christ Taylor, Ed Droste, Danniel Rossen, Noah Lennox and Thomas Mars*
I know this comment is 8 years old...but, Dominic Howard.
wilson? OwO
I love Matthew Bellamy, his voice, him playing instruments ... I just love this guy, he's so tallented and so awesome!
This song is phenomenal
This band's got everything, relaxing, to the adrenaline junkie.
I love this song!
this song is bloody amazing!! i love muse!!
♥I just love this song♥
i really love this song.
I love muse songs between showbiz and absolution especially the b sides because of their message which has always been a fascinating concept to me: Degradation of the human being (socially, mentally, etc) caused by technology.
i love this song! its gonna be ok, cant afford another day, at 50 bytes per second...
I love his voice when it's like this... all high, like it used to be. But it's still the best singing voice in the world
lol, This is so good! =D Love the lyrics, but all Matts lyrics are amazing. Pure legend.
I came
Muse
has to be my favourite b-side of all time
That ending gives me goosebumps
thanx ;D

WHY DOES THIS HAVE TO BE BLOCKED? WHY ARE SO MANY MUSE SONGS BLOCKED? I HATE WARNER BROTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Because they dont want you to know hoe good they were. Would people buy their new rubbish if they knew this is how they used to be?
+Lucky79 You're a dumbass. They were incredible, and they are still
Alain De Bitssbailledrey No, you're the "dumbass". The new stuff is not a patch on their older stuff. Its different and more radio friendly, but no way near as good or unique as thier older work. Now run along child.

At fifty bytes per second ... ♥
OhOhOhOh i think this song is like my life

Oos is the best album ever
Is just that the original version "Instant messenger" Had a little variations, Like Ej, in the begining it said "you got post" (or sth like that xD im not native english) But that little voice clip was Copyrighted By AOL, so they changed the song, and renamed it "Ping Ego Box"
:D!
MUSE ROXS!
Lyrics are a bit messed up in the video... But that doesn't take away from how amazing this song is. Muse is just amazing.
It is his voice, lol. Its just because this is one of their earlier songs, before the were really well known, i think. Their music has changed a lot since then lmao.

For some reason this song has a real Blue October-like feel to it, imo. Especially around like 1:13, I always think Blue. :P
@epag
dont answer if you dont know bro
"instant messenger" was the title on the muscle museum ep
its an early version of pink ego box
@burnelement IKR.
@epag Ahhhhh. Thanks. I knew there wasn't a Muse song I hadn't heard...
@maniacchris You could say that, but i think they've just grown, they would'nt be doing stadium tours if they would have carried on sounding like this, no matter how much we love it :)
it has two names.. pink ego box being it's official name, i do believe however that instant messenger was used in some countries x
In the original post, there is a ''you've got post'' at 0:24. For legal reason, it has been removed.
it used ta be called Instant Messenger and its on the albums, Random 1-8, Muscle Museum EP, and the 2nd CD of the single, Muscle Museum. dont know bout the whole b-side thing though..
@GreenTwiMuseDay12 Because the people posting "Instant Messenger" don't know the first thing about Muse. Pink Ego Box is the songs name.
please come to greece :)
The lyrics for this song really aren't up to par, but the awesome melody makes up for it.
yep went 12th november
@bloosy I agree with you, random stranger whom I don't know......
0:24 "You've got a post" :P
Well, they have deffinately changed a lot....
@mryoshihead1995toast actually instant messenger had an aol voice at 0:24 saying "you've got post." legal trouble with AOL led them to rename it pink ego box and take out the voice

@vprakhov I was about to say the same thing. Its so true!
Cheesy when they say "Instant message me...". I do love Muse though.
maybe but if you listen to the bass tone and the guitar line its pretty Musey
@megalomania29 Nah it isn't. It's a b-side but originally came under the name on Instant Messenger. They have tons of them, you should check some more out...I have 127 Muse tracks atm and I still think there's more to be found XD xx

@BELLAMYandHOWARDfan Funny that you're such a huge fan and yet didn't even know this track
that was the original name but they changed it because AOL tried to sue them or something

It was called Instant Messenger but they renamed it after the original had to be edited because of a sound clip from the AOL instant messenger that had to be taken out.
50 bytes per second? 50bps? I think you need new internet mate, I recommend sky :P
Great song!
@hattonhaha watch?v=3Vy735jNAyg I argue that they could, in fact, do so.
Google "Pregnant Kate Hudson Refuses to Visit Dying Grandma" and read the first article.
It's pretty messed up..
This song is quite old. I can actually play a piano rendition of this :P
i prefer them calling it instant messenger. ):
@TheGraphical Things don't have to make no sense to be stupid.
Oldish comment but are you one of the people who think she is the modern Yoko Ono? She's 'aight.
Emm, this song is the same as "instant messenger" ô.o
You probably never heard of biffy clyro.

What the hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wtf does EP even mean, InDaNameaJebuz? I've been wondering.
They had instant messaging in 1999? LOL :)
@GreenTwiMuseDay12 ALTERNATE TITLES. Pink Ego Box is a better title.
Um... Why is this song and Instant Messager the exact same thing?
this is probably the only muse song that i'm not that big a fan of. makes me really sad
Or it's legit.. They interviewed her biological dad.
I’m not liking this because currently the like : dislike ratio is 696 : 9

@bloosy oh. whoops, I apologise sir! please don't stretch me?
