1984 has been my favorite book since I read it for the first time when I was 12. I've read it 7 times since, finishing it most recently earlier today. I literally was brought to tears at my desk at work while listening to this. The entire album is a masterpiece.
The album was inspired by George Orwell's 1984. The sad irony of your comment is that the main character of the novel fell in love, and strongly believed that his and his partner's love could topple the corrupt governments that had control of the world... the later songs of the album referencing how he failed, tortured into submission. Even love can crumble if the pressure is tough enough.
And why should not love suffice? It can be a simple smile, or a small service that costs us nothing. That may be enough to change someone's day. I think love could be an intelligent solution to problems that violence did not solve, as Nelson Mandela did in his country, just my opinion though.

It a real page turner science fiction read I was given by my history professor when I was studying his history of genetics course. It has some fascinating themes and it seems to me that there is quite a lot of that book in here.
