Great reaction , through most of his career Paul Weller has been a bit of a chameleon. After the post punk of the jam , he wanted a completely different direction, the style council produced some beautiful 80s soul. And your absolutely right, it was made from their love of rnb and Us soul, so it's certainly a tribute
Only Stranger Things made it bigger than what it did in 1985. I was never a fan of hers, not that i didn't respect her. However , The Jam and The Style Council i did like and would love to hear this in a really popular show like...Doctor Who maybe .

The song sounds like something Bruno Mars would butcher and (holy crap I didn’t sleep well) an artist beginning with “T” that produces the same kind of beats popular today. You should re-listen to The Hounds of Hell. Great album.
Sorry for the new comment… I can’t respond to your comment for some reason 🤷… To me it sounds like something Bruno Mars and Tame Impala could re-release (and butcher lol) and it would be very popular today. It hasn’t aged much compared with other music, as that 80s electronic sound is back in fashion… as per Kate Bush. You should re-listen to Hounds of Hell. It is a really well crafted album. The production on it is fantastic.
