Rest assured. These things can happen to anyone. Now you have a moral obligation to listen to Here's One that Got Away (a great track in its own right), reading the lyrics to You're the Best Thing.😂
Glad you listened to mine, I think you mixed You’re The Best Thing with Here’s One That Got Away, both from Cafe Bleu. You listened to the former but you read the latter’s text. Anyway, if you liked this one you’re gonna love Long Hot Summer (i reccommen Extendend mix, but the single mix is good too), which also has a great sounding bass line and has a less mainstream sound to it. My name is Luca btw, I’m from Italy ;)
🙂! I was an 80s post punk, new wave, ultravox synth record store addict..always on the quest for the next.... Found this 12"...why not?..that soft quartet and smooth Rich voice...hooked.. got introducing the style council and every ebtg as they came out. One of ...the best voice of an era..
Glad you brought up the sax solo Justin. That's the version that I've always heard. So I'm listening to this version, waiting for the sax and - where's the sax? Interesting that that element is only in the single version. Anyway - its a great song. No, not a deep song to be sure, but it's a lovely track. In fact I suggested this track to a couple of friends many years ago as their wedding song, and they went with it! It's that kind of song. Can't wait for more Style Council reactions from you Justin!
You got to do Paul Wellers solo work "above the clouds" is a particular favourite of mine, its a bit Soul A bit Pop a bit jazz, and his voice is at it's best.
Find out more about Paul Weller with his work with The Jam. You'll see the evolution in his songwriting through today. He still continues to put out solo albums to this day in 2023.
I must admit the Style Council I've heard in the past did not impress. But this was a treat. Very nice harmonies on the vocals, but the guitar and bass were smooth. I'm changing my mind.😁✌&❤.( What no sax solo? For shame!)
Style Council can be something of a conundrum - they were a superb singles band but Weller's keenness to experiment with different styles and genres (laudable as that was) meant their LPs could be rather hit-or-miss (Our Favourite Shop is the best, certainly the most consistent). In many ways, they were the butter in the sandwich of Paul's career with The Jam and his solo career. But their singles, are noted, as effortlessly brilliant - check out My Ever Changing Moods, Shout To The Top, Long Hot Summer and Walls Come Tumbling Down just for a kick-off.
I'm not sure if you covered their best work yet IMO. The most beautiful protest song ever "All Gone Away" their best all around song "Ever Had It Blue" extended version from "Singular Adventures" the most inspirational song "Headstart For Happiness" I hope you will consider doing these songs. The Style Council is one of the most underrated bands ever in my opinion. Thanks
They have a fantastic catalogue of songs, and yet you’ve picked out a couple of real duds. Also, two of your picks are the same song but with different lyrics
give their song, "The Paris Match" featuring Tracey Thorn from Everything But the Girl. It's fantastic but make sure you listen to the version featuring her.
You have to remember that many British bands in the Eighties were wise to the public just buying the single versions, which was why they often produced a different album version and also released various 12" remixes of the same track. Being a late millennial, you're just not going to be familiar with that commercial concept.
Speak Like A Child Party Chambers (single version) A Solid Bond In Your Heart Long Hot Summer The Paris Match (EP) Homebreakers or all of Our Favourite Shop album The Cost of Loving
Yeah, I like those mercurial guitar notes and it's sound. I must agree with you on the bass, it really carries it and I couldn't imagine it NOT being out front. Can you? Pop is great!
Hope youll find Long Hot Summer, as mentioned, Speak like a Child, Headstart for Happiness and the version of Paris Match that introduced me to Tracey Thorn(ebtg)
I was wondering when you'd get here. Love it! Have you considered Roxy Music's album Avalon? It's the smoothest; the coolest. This kind of vibe, but Roxy Music!
Good to see the Style Council back on the channel. A much loved, classic ballad that's become a standard. Soulful with jazzy overtones. From a time when Weller started to allow himself to write tender love songs, something he'd largely resisted with The Jam. There are still plenty of up-tempo songs from this era too though - try Walls Come Tumbling Down, for example - that's a great track. I expect others have pointed this out, but you read the lyrics from a completely different song on the same album! 🤣😉The lyrics to this song are far more tender!
Hi Brandon. Lovin yer channel. Vintage reactions all good music all the time. 😂❤😁😂Sortyer track listing's out JP! 🤗 Great song! It's a bass guitar / toaster no it's Mick Talbot on the bass synth / telly. Doh just said that. Sorry. Lyrics! No needforem at all. Land of Confusion it is then. Without the WHOOAA refrain hopefully. In other news, Mark Drake ford. Doh wrong comment section. War! its War Susanah Gekeloys
Very different from the social commentary associated with The Jam's output, but i can still appreciate the blue eyed soul that was Weller's new direction!
Plenty of social commentary among the Style Council's work, but often buried in plain sight - whereas the polemic in The Jam's material was often more obvious because of the new wave / post punk attack in the music. Songs like Walls Come Tumbling Down, Money Go Round, The Lodgers, Homebreakers, Come to Milton Keynes, etc, etc talk rail against Thatcherism and consumerism - not to mention paintings of the striking miners in the video for Shout To The Top!
"Radio pop fair," Those were the words I was looking for. Song was ok. I just wasn't in the mood for radio pop fair when I clicked today. Hit 'like' for the review.
Omg

The single version was my intro to tracey thorne to become ebtg
@@rcmorl6390 Your reply prompted me to hear Tracy's version for the first time and I'm a solid EBTG fan from way back. Thank you.

@@Owlstretchingtime78 not that I’m aware of, but possibly it’s not a common name and my father was from down England way back
Style Council is great. Paul Weller is great. You should check out their album My Favourite Shop. It's one of the best albums of the 80's.

I was waiting for sax to watch JP's reaction and I questioned my memory, and I have the version with sax because I've never heard this version.
Cafe Bleu and Our Favourite Shop are both amazing 80s albums. You really need to check them out.
I don't know what else you've heard from the Style Council but I recommend My Ever Changing Moods. I love that tune. Thx for checking them out.
Love Style Council. More please!
"walls come tumbling down" is your next must-listen. my favourite style council song.
paul weller is fantastic ❤

It is a synth bass. :)
8:36 - Rare indeed, but it happens. I know of such differences in another country.
classic mid-80's evening tune.
Try Weller's 'You Do Something To Me'
@Paul-Martin_67 Agreed. Some say it's a bit "overcooked" but that's just the sound of desperation, he's so scared he's going to lose this love.
magnificent Paul Weller!

Do think single version with sax is a lot better …but different strokes…
He lost me, and the majority of Jam fans, when he started releasing this sort of music. So many wasted years before he came to his senses.
They weren't wasted for him. His choice of direction, and a good one too!
@@Owlstretchingtime78 Not for the people who grew up with The Jam, and punk in general, and certainly not me.

bass ain't bass/ sax ain't there/ lyrics ain't right (🤭)
Another track mix up, hmmmm. Oh well, it's all the same to me, didn't really like anything of his after The Jam.
Same ! In any case, The Jam's discography was so strong and striking that it was impossible for his subsequent career to be superior!
