I am 51kg and about 165cm, it's sad, when I went back to China this past months my grandparents kept on calling me fat even though I tried to explain to them that it's not fat, just curves and muscle because I play sports (lacrosse, volleyball, cross country) and workout. But they insisted I was chubby and it upset me because they only saw being skinny was pretty not being toned 😞

I was surprised by some of the answers but everyone has their own idea on being fat or not. I know I would be considered fat in Korea but I still plan to visit there someday (I'm in the US). Being considered fat does not stop me from going anywhere or doing anything I want to do.

I’m 5’5 and I weigh 48 kg. I used to think that I was fat since all of my friends were much thinner than me. I had self confidence issues and I decided to go on an extreme diet that left me weighing 45 kg. I looked really thin, but when I compared myself to others, I was TOO thin. I finally realized that there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with my body before I lost weight, so I gained it back and I’m healthier than ever. I can finally climb the stairs without feeling like I’m going to pass out. To everybody: fighting!!

They absolutely did. I you look up the last Miss Korea, you’ll find a wonderful documentary on her, and find that she is an absolutely angelic and sweet human, but since she had a normal and not an underweight BMI, she received insane backlash and criticism.
I have a feeling that it's the jealous women doing the fat shaming... I don't think the men care

I used to hate my body and had an eating disorder when i lived in Asia but after i moved to europe and got into lifting weights (being strong over skinny) i am so much happier and i feel confident. Most of all i love my body and im healthy. I actually gained weight from building muscle and im so proud of it. The people here also dont fat shame others like Koreans do. There are so many different types of beauty here. Every day i get called beautiful on the streets whereas back home people would think im "too big". Love yourself!

You can't just generalize everyone and assume they had plastic surgery just because they are beautiful. While some may have had it, and some haven't , it's still not your place to say that about someone without even knowing them.
I know about facts, that a lot of people do get plastic surgery in korea, but that doesn't mean everyone does. It's also a known fact that people in there struggle with the prejudice that they had plastic surgery because they're attractive or beautiful.
Well, this stereotype is not coming from nothing, it is a result of the massive demand on cosmetic surgery. Secondly people want to convey a message to Korean; it is not all about external beauty. It is their cultural values that need surgery actually. I have never seen such people on planet who overrate external appearance as Koreans, they are really sick. If a girl is a little bit chubby she is treated like subhuman and can hardly get a job. Overall they are the losers, their population is shrinking rapidly and suicide is increasing, and now there is a race between USA and China on who will take over the peninsula upon the upcoming extinction of the Korean race and their shallow minded culture.

I lived in the middle of Seoul which is the most developed city in Korea and I have never seen a korean with big booty. there are many women well shaped but they look still much more tiny than Canadians or Americans. Well I moved to Canada and I was so shocked at first at the varities of human body shape.

Korean used to say : "every girls can be beautiful if she's not lazy" something like that. For me it's not something society should say to his people. For me it's something that hurts.
But that is kind of true and I think it still nicer than just saying that "only girls who are born beautiful are beautiful" which I can see in many places. Because then it gives you the power to make yourself beautiful by your own means and not just end up thinking there is no point because I was not born beautiful.
Also it is just the truth because if the person uses time to pick right hair products and cut. They will look better. Also if the person chooses clothes that flatter their body. They will look better and so on. And I think a very important thing to understand is if the person is confident and walks with straight posture they are going to look better.

Of course going deeper, hair styles, clothes, make up, shoes, posture, etc etc all take effort. For men, too. I always feel jealous and envious with people that have natural skinny body. they don't even have to diet or workout or exercising even if they eat a lot they won't even gained 1kg. they can wear beautiful clothes and whatever they wear always look good on them. sometimes I feel down when people always told me that I look older than my big sis just because I am a lil bit chubby (?) than her. my sis can eat a lot she can eat whatever she wants and her body will be remained the same. she has a really nice body. yeah a body goal for me. small waist, small arm and thigh gap. I tried really hard to diet and exercise but they're all useless. I dont loss that much weight after a long diet and even I eat very little it will increase rapidly than how much I lost during my diet. I just want to have smaller waist, arms and thigh gap. :((((

I am 5’6 and supposed to way about 120 lbs but I weighed 69lbs. The doctor told me I should have been dead. I understand where ur coming from because apparently I was naturally “skinny” but I thought I was fat and curvy. But I learned that I don’t give a shit what people think of me. If you struggle with this don’t starve yourself or go on a diet. Baggy clothing is what I wore before I started starving myself and it made me feel better that others couldn’t see me. I'm a skinny person who doesn't gain weight, i weigh 43 kg and it's frustrating to me because my weight is too low and it's not healthy, all i want it's to get more kg but i can't, it can took me more than a year to just gain 1kg and that's if i try really hard. I can understand what you're saying but don't compare yourself with skinny people. Try to make your best effort in losing weight in a healthy and responsable way so you can be the best version of yourself. I am triying to gain weight eating more (healthy food) and doing exercise everyday
flyinyourdream thr thigh gap is impossible to get if you aren't born with it because of most people's anatomy. it depends almost solely in the shape of your bone structure and hips. nothing you can change by exercising and dieting. the only way you could get it is to be underweight to an unhealthy extreme. don't do crash diets. try to find a nutritionist and ask for a meal plan and exercise healthily. you sound like you might slip into an eating disorder because you already have an 'ideal' body set with extreme specifics (one of which does not really exist) so please be careful. Eating disorders are no joke and can literally take your life away.
I think Korean girls try too much to look like celebs, all the girls in the video look great, they don't have to starve themselves or anything to be slim like "that celeb star" if you know what I mean. I think they focus too much on the how a perfect body should be, and don't notice that they actually look good.

In South Korea, Curvy is way different than Curvy is in the USA. Americans will say Kpop idols are too skinny but Koreans think they are curvy. Also when Koreans look at American celebs like Nicki Minaj, they say it's too much. Also in South Korea & also Japan its desired to be Skinny with big boobs as also seen in female Anime characters (Very thin, Big boobs) Curvy in South Korea is basically Skinny in America. Most of the girls in the video aren't even fat but they think they are.

The thing about dieting/exercising to wear clothes that you want is so true because that's totally me. I'm chubby and I have fat thighs and I refuse to wear anything remotely nice until I fix my body. I literally dress like a hobo cause I wanna hide my fat 😂But I'm okay with it though cause I'm a tomboy so oversized stuff has always been my thing (thank God for that)
I feel the same way. I recently gained around 40-45lbs (18-20kg) and I like to wear crop tops but I don’t like my stomach fat so I just cover it up with high waisted pants :/

I'm a chubby curvy girl and compared to the woman in Korea I must be fat but weight doesn't matter because when you meet a person you appreciate the kind of personality they have not what they look like. If you have genuine friends then they don't care how you look like because they are friends with you for you not your body. So this video was kinda heartbreaking because people think that weight matters to a person, it doesn't and I want people to know you should love yourself and feel like if people are going not going to accept you because your body their probably insecure about theirs. You should help them and change this mind about looks and beauty, everyone is beautiful and ideal body types that's all superficial in the real world people care about you, not your looks, just know you are loved and beautiful.❤️

There are quite a lot of attractive people in Korea, but I will say the work hard to make sure they look good. Appearance is valued strongly over there. I had a roommate, who spent an hour doing her hair and makeup alone...and don't get me started on her skincare routine lol she's super pretty, though.
