Chinese girl: "I am black"
Actual black person: bruh.......

@Mrs WFC 终于见到有人说这个理论了,我猜欧洲人崇尚tan部分是因为有钱人能健身旅游晒太阳,穷人只能在家看电视2333
Sorry there is no word in the chinese language for tan so when they say th et are black it's to describe that they are tan.
@Mrs WFC Still doesn't sound good at all because she took off a point (thought her "darker" skin or being "black" was a NEGATIVE) & using the word BLACK to describe that when there's a GROUP of PEOPLE called that (don't understand why Jesse an activist had the courts call blacks "blacks") but that's LITERALLY a LEGAL term for a group of people. So you saying because they don't have a word for "tan" is stupid, make it up then, they have more than 3,000 damn characters and don't have a word for tan lmao?! SERIOUSLY?! East Asia sound hella shitty for that OR I'm taking it a bit too personal & the wrong way...Either way they think "BLACK" is bad or negative.
@@DrixMaloneDFS Why are you so angered over a culture you know nothing about? Chinese language was invented thousands of years ago, you think they would've seen any black person back then? And so what if there's no words in Chinese for tan? There's probably words in different languages that English has no word for either, so is English stupid too? And no one said black is bad, , they just prefer having pale skin as a one of the standard for attractiveness, same like you would work out in the gym to have the body you think is beautiful, what gives you the right to have a preference for what you think looks beautiful but they can't do the same?
"Are you considered fat..."

There's no word for tan in Mandarin,it's why she said she's black.
It a reflection of the thinking in terms of extremes when it come to “beautiful “ and “ugly.”
When there are so many other subtleties in communication and relationships in China, and new words are created daily to keep up with technology jargon you’d think the society would do the same when it came to skin tones.
Nicole lol white people are not actually white like paper and black people are just dark brown. Why haven’t English come up with new worlds to describe skin tones then?
Sorry but not every language needs to revolve around your understanding, so chinese doesn’t need to come up with a new word to describe tan.

There is no word for 'tan' in chinese so it is replaced by 'black'
_lost in translation...._
EDIT: ok just to clear things up, the word for tan is a compound word 晒黑 which is sun-black. To say that ur tan you say 我很黑, I'm very black.
And white skin is a beauty standard in East Asia because yeaaars ago richer people could stay at home and didn't have a tan and it's become a cultural thing.
Likewise, there's no word in Chinese for "pale skin", so it's replaced by "white skjn". So next time you hear a Chinese say they want to be white, doesn't mean they want to be racially white!
Similar case goes to Thailand, only different is we finally refer Tan color if your appearance are good looking enough.

In parts of East asia you say black instead of tanned. You also do that in Thailand :))
People in china who doesn’t know a lot about how native speakers use English say black because that’s the straight translation of saying ‘dark’
黑 means black or dark, I think she means she’s darker than she would like to be. We don’t really have a word for ‘tan’ or ‘dark’ when it comes to describing skin tones.
😂 it’s pretty funny though, she literally looked a bit ghostly pale, in a good way I think.

Theres no chinese word for tan so they use black (ik its a joke)
how can anyone say all chinese people look the same, they all looked so different!
Valentina K it’s called makeup u imbecile
I think a lot of this actually comes from not being used to seeing Asian people. I live in a predominantly white country, and I have to admit that the first time I traveled to Japan I actually had some difficulties recognizing my host sister in a crowd. As I got used to seeing Asian traits, I learned to differentiate people from each other.
This has nothing to do with me being racist (at least I hope not), but more to do with the fact that I'm not used to see Asian traits. My parents have the same issue with Black people, although I, through American media, have gotten used to seeing African features.
So yeah, TLDR: It's about being used to see certain types of faces and thereafter learning to differentiate between them.
@@bugeye8749 f u
Well mostly since you could tell they're Asian from their facial structure, etc.
@@karinajrgensen1738 this is why asian representation is so important in media nowadays. Before, people will always have that one token asian character in a cast full of westerners, so they are not used to the distinct features of asians.
But here in my country, even whites and blacks get the "they all look the same" treatment. Not most but like the older generations do... A black man will be called "michael jordan" and a white man will be called "brad pitt" or something. I went to China and I was shocked by how good looking everyone was. Handsome men and pretty women everywhere. All the guys were 180 cm+ and the girls 160 cm+.
@@otk88403 That's literally only true for the places in the normal tourist path, so Beijing and Shanghai. Go to Gansu, Tibet, Yunnan, Guangdong, etc. and people are still short and a variety of skin shades.
There is no place in China where dudes are all 180cm+. Even Yantai, the "tallest" city in China, dudes only average 176 cm.
@@StopTryingSoHard 180 cm is obviously an estimate. It's not like I went and measured every single person and averaged all their heights in my head. Way to be pedantic. Even then, an average is an average. In China, height averages are skewed because of the shorter, older citizens aged 35~40+, who didn't have the nutrition required to grow tall. China, along with other Asian countries, only became wealthy recently. This is also the reason why teens/young adults in urban, wealthy areas like Shanghai are going to be taller than their peers living in rural areas.
Taking only the well-nourished youth into account, it's very likely that the average is going to be higher than 176 cm. This is also the reason why young South Koreans in their teens and 20s seem so tall despite the population's height average being nothing special relative to other countries. It wouldn't surprise me if Asian countries surpassed the US and some other European countries after a couple of decades.
Outside of NW China, I don't think I've ever seen any East Asian who was over 180 cm. In NW China you do see these random really tall people, both men and women.
Are you really sure that's going to happen? Because you know there's plenty of Chinese Americans, Korean Americans and Japanese Americans and they are not suddenly 6'8". i guess.
In China we say ‘taking sunbathe for a “more black” skin’, which actually refers to a tan skin.
One thing to note is that the fact that she said “I’m black” isn’t the actual offensive statement. It can be easily understood that she was simply trying to define herself as “tan” or “darker-skinned” but only because there is no word for that in mandarin. However, what makes her statement offensive is that she is indicating that darker skin and tan skin is ugly (or at least worth removing points towards her beauty). I know that she was talking about that in reference to herself because of modern Chinese beauty standards, but it doesn’t change the fact that many of these societal standards would classify a black or tan person as less beautiful. It’s not like this is anything new, or that every Asian person or culture thinks this way, but it is still discouraging to see that one may possess many aspects that cultural standards disapprove of. This isn’t a jab at that girl or anyone in the video. Heck, it’s not even a stab at Chinese beauty standards or Asian cultures. Just because black and brown people don’t fit that mold, doesn’t mean these standards aren’t culturally significant or historically valid. This statement is just a comment to validate the discouraging response that comes with being a darker skinned person watching this video. I find that many of the comments are missing the point of why people are upset, but I’m glad that they explain her usage of the phrase. I just wish people would also allow darker-skinned viewers to express the educated disapproval of the standards in the video. Still, this is once again, a great video from Asian Boss!

Most urban ladies in China put make ups, meaning their actual skin tones are usually darker, and 170cm is definitely considered quite tall for them as the average height of shanghai women is not even 163.
The majority of chinese girls are abt 1,60 and use lighter makeup or whitening cremes to get an brighter complex
PEACHYOONGI you don’t actually know that for sure.
The phrase "I am black." does not have any racial meanings hidden behind.
This is a direct translation from the Chinese phrase "我很黑" (wo hen hei). "Black" by itself only means the shade black (黑, hei). And only when it is combined with "people," it refers to black people (黑人, hei ren). The girl probably wants to say "I have a dark skin tone" rather than "I am black (people)."
Chinese's preference for pale skin can be dated back to ancient history. It also does not relate to the white supremacism in the US. I understand that in the States, this phrase sounds very problematic. But it is a common thing to be said as a self-criticism on appearance in China. We are constantly comparing ourselves to a so-called "better" standard and trying to find flaws in our bodies. And this is why that girl is being so "harsh" on herself even though she looks pale AF in our opinions.
Our harsh standard of appearance is definitely a culture and a social problem in China. On the other hand, racial issues are not embedded in our culture and history as much compared to the States. I understand that this video is meant for western audiences. But pushing social standards on other cultures does not seem fair. However, I do believe that the awareness of racial problems needs to be improved in China since we are increasingly exposed to the international environment. Luckily, I can see some raising awareness of this topic recently. But of course, we still have a LONG way to go.
I do believe that it is the channel's responsibility to be considerate about these kinds of cultural and political differences. Asian Boss should be more careful with the translation knowing the fact that you will reach a HUGH western audience. I would love to see Asian Boss thrive and eventually serve as a great model that changes misunderstanding and reveals the REAL ASIA.
Even though she doesn't mean it to be racial, she isn't dark by any means. It's crazy to me that she thinks she has a dark skin tone in any way.

😂 girl then I must look like charcoal to her 🤦🏾♀️
Same lol
adriana Alomia she might be a little tan if she remove her make up because I feel like she wears a lot of makeup
she meant Tan hahahaha
adriana Alomia 💀😭😭
There's not really a word for tan in China.
I'm Chinese, I see a lot of people talking about “I am black ”below, but as Chinese people don't know what it has to have, I think that girl is just trying to express that her skin is very tan.
andy Hsi 用tan应该更合适
Chris zeng 好滴,改啦
Don't worry these are just some lefty snowflakes
“Very Tan”
andy Hsi The thing that shocked me the most in her sentence is that she does not seem really tan in my opinion.
I admire the lady who said 11. As a fellow Chinese, I have terribly low self esteem. I wish I one day will see my worth. Because I hear so many compliments about my looks. Yes, I’m well aware I’m more than my looks. But it would be nice to acknowledge myself & treat myself the way I do others
the girls at 7:39 are so pretty😍
When she said "black",I jumped on the comment section 😂
Me too 😂 such a surprise
@Gimmeyourdonuts I'm Chinese but I still think her skin is so pale... Her skin doesn't look tan to me and I'm much tanner than her D:
Its because there is no word for tan in Chinese
Same !
@@justanormaldude42069 really?
“I think I need to exercise a bit more to keep fit”
Me, eating a bag of chips: 👁👄👁
Same🤣😂🤣
Lol you do you cux YOLO
I like chubby girls BTW
I ate Taco Bell early so😂
You know whenever I read this type of comments I just carry my bag of chips and eat it like many are fat and end up eating so much chips because in every video I see there are these type of comments
OMG!! I need to stop 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
I'm 58, and my chinese fiance (51) is drop dead gorgeous, and mirrors the sentiment of these young women who (wrongly) think of themselves as 5-6 on these arbitrary beauty scales.......
I'm very confident too but people always says that I'm full of myself. They think being confident is about bragging your looks. Honestly when i was a kid they said i am not pretty because i have tan skin, big face and they always compare me to my elder sister having white skin and pretty face and saying i look matured than my sister. That's the society and you can't please everyone to like you instead love yourself more and be confident. Always say that you're pretty inside and out. 😊
Applaud the lady who so openly talked about her eating disorders. 👏
yeah, japaneese seem to be very self aware
ikr it's really hard to acknowledge that you have an eating disorder. kudos to her
Japanese?
Cool 3 it’s literally a video about Chinese people
Chinese women, here, seem to be more confident than korean ladies. Plus they can actually communicate in english. Maybe the beauty standards in China are more relaxed than in korea. Loved the lady in yellow, such confidence.
Ari I heard all korean girls need do makup?
in china, make up is not a must, it is just you love makup.
Ari what dies communicating in English have to do with anything
@@AquielN Merely an observation.
when i went to china majority of them cant speak english tho
Here's My name
not everytime, maybe if you go to office, you should do makup?
however, it is true that korean and japanese girls do more makeup than chinese girls. I work in vehicle industry, my female colleagues don't makup.
Confidence is a very beautiful trait. You go #11
I was really really sad when I saw beautiful girls rating themselves 6, 7
These beauty standards only makes a person feel insecure and lack of confidence
I hope everyone can accept themselves as they are and raise their head with confidence 😭😊♥️
Nah theyre just being humble
6-7 are not bad. And i think they are 6-7 and there is nothing wrong in this!!!!
1:33 gurl if you’re black then I’m a burnt piece of charcoal 😂
Elizabeth oh thank for the explanation. I was really confused there, also
ARMYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!
Llooool
Well a burnt piece of charcoal would make you white 🤔
Righttt😂😂
@Elizabeth armyyyy
When I saw the title I immediately said yes, I’m probably obese in China.
If you are 12 in China/South Korea and you weigh 41kg, is that considered fat? XDD
@@koz6ume398 no that's super skinny but in China they probs want you to be like 5 kg XD
@@millie4689 oof
I️ remember going to an international English speaking school in China, which was mostly composed of Koreans and Japanese people, and talking with my Korean friend about weight. I️ was like “ah, I️ think I’m kinda fat” and she looked at me and said “you’re not fat, don’t say you’re fat, people who are not fat who say they’re fat will get slapped in korea” and for some reason it just stuck with me. I️ don’t call myself fat anymore 😂
Armyyyyyyyy
I have dark skin ,So i took off another point.......
Me : are kidding me
finally these people will understand that looks doesn't matter ..what matters is talent and character
The woman in yellow is sooo cute and understanding
Rula Zu cute个毛线,明明就网红气很浓。中国人会懂,cute?呵呵了
Cuteless
KKKChoi叔 有毒吧老哥
Rula Zu she seems very humble! Down to earth lol compared to the girl that rated herself 8
Rula Zu she's so pretty!
I’m 164 and 58-60kg, i’ve been told by Chinese people (my relatives etc) that i need to lose weight more and eat less...
But my friends here all say i am considered attractive.
I’ve seen girls in china who are around 165-170 weighing 45-50kg being called fat.
It’s honestly ridiculous.
164 and 60kg is pretty big actually for a female of your height 52kg is nice.
I have a similar weight and height to you too, and my Chinese relatives say I weigh a lot. However, my mom's friend, who is also Chinese, thinks that I'm super healthy. It's all based on who you're talking to.
You should love yourself the way you are and not listen to people telling u to change. U are perfectly fine just the way you are and I believe ur beautiful. Stay strong fam❤✌
In terms of BMI, you're doing absolutely fine. Also you might have a wider frame. The point, is stay healthy.
bandd1 you’re probably a man. According to the BMI chart 164 and 60kg is literally a healthy weight, and the fact that you commented on this video one month ago and came back just to reply to comments with your wrong opinion? Lmao please get a job
that chick said she's black when she looks like a ghost, damn if she sees me she will think I'm darkness in a human form LMAO
Cause she must be wearing aton of makeup
she means she’s tan and a lot of them wear layers of foundation to cover up their skin
The woman with glass and red lipstick slaying and stunning.I can't get my eyes from her.❤️
Yellow shirt girl with confidence yes boo

1:05 HER VOICE IM IN LOVE
They are all stunning! SO beautiful!
Why are the women here so good looking and stylish??
Just how it is in China, people have good genes and know how to dress.
because they are in Shanghai
@@jzvr5842 no it's just because they are in shanghai . We all know in rural areas people don't mind style that much.
@@goncakaya658 ye in the cities this is common.but in rural areas there are also people dressed fancily but not as much
The interview is hit in the central region of Shanghai.........
The Chinese women seem to be a lot more confident and open about their looks compared to the Korean and Japanese. Although I see most Chinese girls are skinnier they seem to not follow the rules as harshly. The 'under 50kg' rule is literally causing eating disorders here and there, weight literally doesn't matter, its what you look like really.
do they at least consider height? 50kg for someone who is 1,55m might be considered normal or a tiny bit chubby whereas 50kg with a height of 168m is pretty skinny and underwight and over 1,70m or even 1,75m is scary thin. Weight alone doesn't tell you anything about wether a person is chubby, normal, skinny or looks like a walking skeleton.
@@persephoneswinter739 yeah, I think that "under 50kg" rule is stupid. I guess (most) Asians are shorter tho but at the same time I am only 5 ft 3 and I weigh 50kg, people still call me skinny. I mean these girls in the video were hella skinny yet over 50 kg, so weight literally means nothing
Blue Toaster since you play a lot of sports you probably just have a high amount of muscle which weighs a lot more than fat :))
That rule does matter in every Asia country :(
Yes because we constantly getting called fatter or skinner since the last time I saw u -- type of thing from our relatives ahah
I do understand that there is no word for “tan” in their language to replace “black” instead.
I do wish the channel Asian Boss had maybe added a brief note or comment that would address the controversy so international viewers could better understand. Just the acknowledgment to the differences in cultures could have made viewers feel very different.
All of them are beautiful.💓
Lol "I'm Black"
Me too girl 😂
Quir J u are more confident than that stupid girl😏
Me to 😂😂😂😂😂
@stein leo 不負韶華不負卿
What stupid? Stupid don't say others stupid. Chinese beauty-appreciation is white throughout history.
I really like black women, and im asian lol
I was thinking the same thing...😂

Can we take the money after we finish?"

Okay but im so happy for the girl who beat anorexia
Yeah, I was a little shock how open she was. Good for her.

sameee
I thought it was interesting how the one woman said she didn't like her small, monolid eyes...I thought her eyes were lovely.
They like "big American eyes" and some are even given a gift of eyelid surgery when they graduate highschool so they can have the double eyelid look.
Yea I think you are talking about South Korea, especially the gift part lol...
@@cst314 that's more south Korea
