I am Brazilian and I beg to disagree that Brazil is not a dangerous place to visit. Many members of my family who live in Fortaleza, Ceara Brasil are mugged quite often. It is scary to visit and to live in Brazil. Even in the small towns and farms. The poor farmers cannot own a TV because sooner or later it will be taken from them. It's a country where a woman cannot wear a simple engagement ring with a very small diamond while she goes out. A child in my family in Aldeota walking to school is robbed of his Nike sneakers and is forced to go back home barefoot. My brother who is a dentist and live in a nice area has had 2 of his brand new cars stolen. My nephews and nieces have been taken their cells from them. A place where man with a sharp knife stop at a bus stop with a beg and tells all 28 people in line to put their phones and wallets in his beg than climbs on his motorcycle and takes off laughing. A few years ago when I visited Fortaleza one my nephews was driving me and kept going through red lights, when I said something, he said tia after 10 o'clock if we stop at the red lights we may be mugged and/or killed. I would not say this is not a dangerous place. I am free in America, and I don't feel free in Brazil. You have been very lucky!
Thank you for your feedback Edna. I do think you are missing the point on what I’m trying to say. As the list of the most violent cities in the world suggests, Brazil has a serious crime problem, however if you take your precautions and use common sense, I believe there is no reason for why you shouldn’t visit Brazil. I don’t feel lucky to not have been robbed in my 15 years living in Brazil. I don’t feel lucky because I’m not afraid of going out by myself, walking the dogs or driving at night. I am however, very aware of the crime that is present, and I take my precautions. I know exactly where not to go, what not to wear and how to behave in public. I am aware of the stories you are telling about robberies on public transport, or at gas stations etc, however I personally would never take the public transport service in Fortaleza, or any Brazilian city for that matter. If I can’t take my own car then I’ll take a taxi to where I’m going. Like I said, I think it’s possible to avoid crime if you have the means to take your precautions.

This is my opinion and I agree with some certain points of the video but overall Brazil is not safe, it makes no difference if you're in a rich neighborhood or not. In most of brazilian cities the natives don't feel comfortable walking in the streets and their houses have 2-4 meters walls, that is not a good indication of a country being overall "safe".And just so people know in most favelas kidnapping, mugging and carjacking are NOT allowed by the cartels, it's punishable by death , so most of these crimes happen OUTSIDE of the favelas, majority happen in "middle-class areas" or low density poor areas. Also, "common sense" or whatever means absolutely nothing, for some brazilians "common sense" is not buying a house because it might be invaded and rather live in an apartment, or not walking around with a cellphone because you might lose it (can you imagine not walking around with a cellphone in the 21th century?), and believe it or not but my dad always told me "Always walk around with a couple of bucks or at least a cellphone, because if you don't have anything there is a chance the robber gets angry at you and God knows what some of them are capable of", and yes that has happened before, many such cases of people getting killed because they had cheap cellphones or nothing on their pockets, life costs only 3-10 years in prison in Brazil, so bad guys don't even think twice. I'm not saying you should not come here, we have great things like our landscapes, unique food, amazing beaches, great weather and warm people who are really friendly, but if you expect to be safe when walking around the beaches or the streets as if you were in Portugal or Japan you're dead wrong, you should expect Brazil to be something like South Africa or Mexico.

for me as a tourist, the most important thing is to be relaxed on holiday. as i can see, you can not be relaxed in brasil. don't wear gadgets, watches, use common sense, know the language, know where you go, avoid public transportation...it doesn't sound like a relaxed holiday. i have done this once in sicily and it was stressful, always thinking where to park the rental car and be nervous if someone breaks in...

You’re missing the point. Crime is everywhere. Walls and barbed wire is a safety precaution. Tearing down these walls will certainly invite robbers to empty your house, however that doesn’t prove that you can’t have a good time safely in Brazil. Common sense my friend 👍
@@thebrazilianexpat4041 Yet I don't recall EVER seeing those walls and barbed wires anywhere in Europe or East Asia, and regardless of that, people's houses are NOT getting emptied 24/7. In fact, I could probably even leave my door unlocked when I leave my home in the morning (here in Japan), but as a "common-sensed" European, I don't really see a reason to perform that experiment. In addition, I'm probably the only one who uses a bicycle lock here in this city. People just hop off their bikes when they get home, and fetch it again in the morning without even blinking twice (or students just leave it at the train station when they go to school). All of that is kind of crazy even for me! But THAT'S what safety is actually all about. Apparently, the Japanese people sincerely believe that absurd propaganda that basically everywhere is "safe" and therefore, they are always easy targets for the thiefs and other criminals while travelling abroad.
@giovanna You should travel around the developed world a little, sis, once the pandemic has passed (except in the other crime hub called the US, lol). Even in the capital city of that Eastern / Northern European country where I'm from, women have basically nothing to fear when they are walking around in the middle of the night (besides a few drunkards here or there). I spent 25+ years there myself, and, since I became a teenager, it never even seriously crossed my mind that I could be robbed.

Then I was planning to take my gf to the US in December and after plan to move to brazil for 6 months or a year. She got her tourist visa and everything, and I bought the plane tickets. Well two months before she was supposed to leave, she didn't want to date me anymore, broke up with me, took all my stuff that was supposed to be for us when I moved in with her apartment (which I was paying the rent for) like stove, fridge. Terrible experience, wouldn't recommend it.

I see you posted this video a few years ago for people coming to Brazil. TOO LATE. In fact I live a few mile from you close to Jericoacoara. I have to admit I was pretty depressed today because My Brazilian wife used to live in Fortaleza, with a nice house behind the stadium. I remember visiting here with her 20 years ago with my father and Brazilian 2nd. mother (Niteroi). Back then we traveled all over Fortaleza and it was a delight. Now 20 years later ALL the streets have trash near them and Graffiti on all the walls. We shopped at Mercado Centre. Now it is so filthy I would not even go in. When I told some people that I lived in Brazil, I used to get the oohs and aahs because it was so nice. Now they just say "and you lived to tell about it" i enjoyed your video, it made a lot of sense. Unfortunately I am retired with my wife and my dream retirement now seems to be tarnished. 😎

So, true regardless of where a person lives or countries a person visit they need common sense in America where I live, New Jersey and the New York area a person need to be careful because in these cities it have many areas a visitor should not travel to or visit because it could be very dangerous. I have visit Salvador Bahia for the last five years, Rio and Sao Paulo and I think these cities are very nice and safe as long as a person use common sense and now what sites and neighborhoods to visit. I live outside the city of Fortaleza. Some parts are indeed not very safe however do some research online and you’ll find out which neighborhoods are safer. Use common sense when going outside and you’ll be fine. Fortaleza is a great city to live in!

Foi um "estudo" feito a alguns anos atrás por uma instituição mexicana que pegou dados de 2016/2017 (que foram anos de homicídios bem atípicos aqui) e fez esses ranking, que teve muita repercussão aqui em Fortaleza. Fato é que Fortaleza tem muitos homicídios mesmo, mas como você mesmo citou eles atingem a um público bem específico. Eu diria que quase sempre são homens jovens, pardos/negros de baixa renda e pouca escolaridade que devido a falta de oportunidades se envolvem com tráfico de drogas.... E na verdade essa a realidade da maioria dos pais da América Latina. E apesar do Brasil não ser um produtor de drogas como a Colômbia ou Bolívia, o Brasil é segundo maior consumidor mundial de drogas, atrás só dos EUA. O que eu acho realmente importante ressaltar é que esse quadro vem mudando: ano passado o Ceará reduziu a taxa de homicídios pela metade (maior redução no pais). E que taxa de homicídios não é um bom parâmetro para medir nível de violência, passa um imagem distorcida da realidade.

You’ve never experienced those things because you live and operate in your own little bubble, probably with other privileged people in your city. You can live in the most dangerous city in the world but if you don’t actually go to certain parts of town and interact with certain types of people you won’t experience or even know how bad things are. Just like here in the U.S. where every city has bad areas and good areas. The people from those two areas don’t mix which means that neither know of the other’s situation.

Well considering there is many videos of people being robbed caught on camera during the Olympics. Yes. Compared to a country like Australia where people violently robbing you never happens and no one possesses guns. Yes, yes it is dangerous. You're just used to the country. Also the fact the police force are underfunded, corrupt and bad you have a high unsolved homicide rate. If one person is murdered in Australia (very rare) it's quickly solved. If one is murdered in Brazil (common) it might not get solved.
Mostly favelas in Rio are ruled by druglords and they don't allow any crime there. If you're going to work (and live) there, being nice and humble are essential keys. Rio is not a safe city in general (as a Brazilian, I would choose any other city to live).
What is "funnier" is that both Mexico and Brazil are extremely violenta not because they produce drugs (of course they do to some extent) but because they are ROUTES for drugs. And guess who are the largest markets for these drugs? US and Europe...this is not about blame shifting, it is about accountability. Take care....

Brazil is very dangerous, but it pretty much depends on where you live. I live in northeastern region and it's very dangerous here, but if you wanna visit safe places you need to take a look on the southern part of Brazil. The states os Parana, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul are very safe compared to the northeastern states. If you wanna visit Brazil, take a look on the southern region, but not the southeastern one, those are dangerous too.

Meanwhile, the region of 'Sudeste' which literally translates to 'Southeast' is made up by the most populated states in the country, those are São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo. The Southeast Region is safe compared to the northeast, but it's also dangerous in the capital cities like Rio and São Paulo.

I live in a good neighborhood of Sao Paulo and many of my neighbors were kidnappened or had their house invaded when they were coming back from work and opening the gates. I am Brazilian and I beg to disagree that Brazil is not a dangerous place to visit.
Many members of my family who live in Fortaleza, Ceara Brasil are mugged quite often. It is scary to visit and to live in Brazil. Even in the small towns and farms.
The poor farmers cannot own a TV because sooner or later it will be taken from them.
It's a country where a woman cannot wear a simple engagement ring with a very small diamond while she goes out. A child in my family in Aldeota walking to school is robbed of his Nike sneakers and is forced to go back home barefoot. My brother who is a dentist and live in a nice area has had 2 of his brand new cars stolen. My nephews and nieces have been taken their cells from them.
A place where man with a sharp knife stop at a bus stop with a beg and tells all 28 people in line to put their phones and wallets in his beg than climbs on his motorcycle and takes off laughing.
A few years ago when I visited Fortaleza one my nephews was driving me and kept going through red lights, when I said something, he said tia after 10 o'clock if we stop at the red lights we may be mugged and/or killed.
I would not say this is not a dangerous place.
I am free in America, and I don't feel free in Brazil.

Thank you for your feedback Edna. I do think you are missing the point on what I’m trying to say. As the list of the most violent cities in the world suggests, Brazil has a serious crime problem, however if you take your precautions and use common sense, I believe there is no reason for why you shouldn’t visit Brazil. I don’t feel lucky to not have been robbed in my 15 years living in Brazil. I don’t feel lucky because I’m not afraid of going out by myself, walking the dogs or driving at night. I am however, very aware of the crime that is present, and I take my precautions. I know exactly where not to go, what not to wear and how to behave in public. I am aware of the stories you are telling about robberies on public transport, or at gas stations etc, however I personally would never take the public transport service in Fortaleza, or any Brazilian city for that matter. If I can’t take my own car then I’ll take a taxi to where I’m going. Like I said, I think it’s possible to avoid crime if you have the means to take your precautions.
As a Brazilian, I'm very sorry that my country wasn't very nice to you, and I respect your opinion, but unfortunately that's how I live, We still need some advances in order to bring peace to everyone.
I hope that when you decide to visit Brazil again, I hope nothing will happen to you.

This is my opinion and I agree with some certain points of the video but overall Brazil is not safe, it makes no difference if you're in a rich neighborhood or not. In most of brazilian cities the natives don't feel comfortable walking in the streets and their houses have 2-4 meters walls, that is not a good indication of a country being overall "safe".And just so people know in most favelas kidnapping, mugging and carjacking are NOT allowed by the cartels, it's punishable by death , so most of these crimes happen OUTSIDE of the favelas, majority happen in "middle-class areas" or low density poor areas. Also, "common sense" or whatever means absolutely nothing, for some brazilians "common sense" is not buying a house because it might be invaded and rather live in an apartment, or not walking around with a cellphone because you might lose it (can you imagine not walking around with a cellphone in the 21th century?), and believe it or not but my dad always told me "Always walk around with a couple of bucks or at least a cellphone, because if you don't have anything there is a chance the robber gets angry at you and God knows what some of them are capable of", and yes that has happened before, many such cases of people getting killed because they had cheap cellphones or nothing on their pockets, life costs only 3-10 years in prison in Brazil, so bad guys don't even think twice. I'm not saying you should not come here, we have great things like our landscapes, unique food, amazing beaches, great weather and warm people who are really friendly, but if you expect to be safe when walking around the beaches or the streets as if you were in Portugal or Japan you're dead wrong, you should expect Brazil to be something like South Africa or Mexico.
But most cities in Brazil don't have favelas i'm sure i can walk at night without worrying

for me as a tourist, the most important thing is to be relaxed on holiday. as i can see, you can not be relaxed in brasil. don't wear gadgets, watches, use common sense, know the language, know where you go, avoid public transportation...it doesn't sound like a relaxed holiday. i have done this once in sicily and it was stressful, always thinking where to park the rental car and be nervous if someone breaks in...

Before watching the video 'til the end (sorry!) I can say something about most cities in Brazil: most violent crimes are usually on the outskirts (which is very unfortunate for the poor)

You’re missing the point. Crime is everywhere. Walls and barbed wire is a safety precaution. Tearing down these walls will certainly invite robbers to empty your house, however that doesn’t prove that you can’t have a good time safely in Brazil. Common sense my friend 👍

In fact, I could probably even leave my door unlocked when I leave my home in the morning (here in Japan), but as a "common-sensed" European, I don't really see a reason to perform that experiment.
In addition, I'm probably the only one who uses a bicycle lock here in this city. People just hop off their bikes when they get home, and fetch it again in the morning without even blinking twice (or students just leave it at the train station when they go to school). All of that is kind of crazy even for me! But THAT'S what safety is actually all about.
Apparently, the Japanese people sincerely believe that absurd propaganda that basically everywhere is "safe" and therefore, they are always easy targets for the thiefs and other criminals while travelling abroad.
@giovanna You should travel around the developed world a little, sis, once the pandemic has passed (except in the other crime hub called the US, lol). Even in the capital city of that Eastern / Northern European country where I'm from, women have basically nothing to fear when they are walking around in the middle of the night (besides a few drunkards here or there). I spent 25+ years there myself, and, since I became a teenager, it never even seriously crossed my mind that I could be robbed.

@@joeywheeler3838 Hahaha funny story. I went to Brazil in January this year. It was a great experience. Then I was planning to take my gf to the US in December and after plan to move to brazil for 6 months or a year. She got her tourist visa and everything, and I bought the plane tickets.
Well two months before she was supposed to leave, she didn't want to date me anymore, broke up with me, took all my stuff that was supposed to be for us when I moved in with her apartment (which I was paying the rent for) like stove, fridge. Terrible experience, wouldn't recommend it.

I see you posted this video a few years ago for people coming to Brazil. TOO LATE. In fact I live a few mile from you close to Jericoacoara. I have to admit I was pretty depressed today because My Brazilian wife used to live in Fortaleza, with a nice house behind the stadium. I remember visiting here with her 20 years ago with my father and Brazilian 2nd. mother (Niteroi). Back then we traveled all over Fortaleza and it was a delight. Now 20 years later ALL the streets have trash near them and Graffiti on all the walls. We shopped at Mercado Centre. Now it is so filthy I would not even go in. When I told some people that I lived in Brazil, I used to get the oohs and aahs because it was so nice. Now they just say "and you lived to tell about it"

So, true regardless of where a person lives or countries a person visit they need common sense in America where I live, New Jersey and the New York area a person need to be careful because in these cities it have many areas a visitor should not travel to or visit because it could be very dangerous. I have visit Salvador Bahia for the last five years, Rio and Sao Paulo and I think these cities are very nice and safe as long as a person use common sense and now what sites and neighborhoods to visit. I live outside the city of Fortaleza. Some parts are indeed not very safe however do some research online and you’ll find out which neighborhoods are safer. Use common sense when going outside and you’ll be fine. Fortaleza is a great city to live in!

Esse ranking de homicídio mostrado foi apresentado por esse site como sendo recente, mas a verdade é que ele já é bem antigo. Foi um "estudo" feito a alguns anos atrás por uma instituição mexicana que pegou dados de 2016/2017 (que foram anos de homicídios bem atípicos aqui) e fez esses ranking, que teve muita repercussão aqui em Fortaleza.
Fato é que Fortaleza tem muitos homicídios mesmo, mas como você mesmo citou eles atingem a um público bem específico.
Eu diria que quase sempre são homens jovens, pardos/negros de baixa renda e pouca escolaridade que devido a falta de oportunidades se envolvem com tráfico de drogas.... E na verdade essa a realidade da maioria dos pais da América Latina. E apesar do Brasil não ser um produtor de drogas como a Colômbia ou Bolívia, o Brasil é segundo maior consumidor mundial de drogas, atrás só dos EUA.
O que eu acho realmente importante ressaltar é que esse quadro vem mudando: ano passado o Ceará reduziu a taxa de homicídios pela metade (maior redução no pais). E que taxa de homicídios não é um bom parâmetro para medir nível de violência, passa um imagem distorcida da realidade.
Alan Almeida talvez esse lista não representa exatamente o que acontece em Fortaleza (no site está dizendo que os dados era de 2020?) mas isso realmente não importa porque eu sei que a Fortaleza era umas das cidades mais violentas do mundo faz anos... o que eu quero explicar no vídeo para os estrangeiros que sempre acha o Brasil é um país extremamente violenta aonde qualquer pessoa pode ser assaltado a qualquer momento, algo que não é realidade. You’ve never experienced those things because you live and operate in your own little bubble, probably with other privileged people in your city. You can live in the most dangerous city in the world but if you don’t actually go to certain parts of town and interact with certain types of people you won’t experience or even know how bad things are. Just like here in the U.S. where every city has bad areas and good areas. The people from those two areas don’t mix which means that neither know of the other’s situation.
Don't compare the U.S with brazil in Brazil you get popped for a sandwich.

No Brasil é só não se envolver com coisa errada e tá safe, esse público de pessoas que são assassinadas no Brasil é praticamente para quem acaba se envolvendo com coisas erradas daí vai parar a 7 palmos em baixo da terra, vídeo muito didático e bem explicado. Brasil tem problemas com violência sim, mas não é dessa forma que os estrangeiros imaginam, e são só em algumas áreas, e esses dados desse quadro foram tirados de uma época que o Brasil estava sofrendo com sérios problemas entre disputa de facções, mas eu nunca vi a violência diminuir no Brasil igual hoje, e acredito que logo ninguém mais lembrará que o Brasil esteve algum dia nesse quadro!

Well considering there is many videos of people being robbed caught on camera during the Olympics. Yes. Compared to a country like Australia where people violently robbing you never happens and no one possesses guns. Yes, yes it is dangerous. You're just used to the country.
Also the fact the police force are underfunded, corrupt and bad you have a high unsolved homicide rate.
If one person is murdered in Australia (very rare) it's quickly solved. If one is murdered in Brazil (common) it might not get solved.

Mostly favelas in Rio are ruled by druglords and they don't allow any crime there. If you're going to work (and live) there, being nice and humble are essential keys.

What is "funnier" is that both Mexico and Brazil are extremely violenta not because they produce drugs (of course they do to some extent) but because they are ROUTES for drugs. Brazil is very dangerous, but it pretty much depends on where you live. I live in northeastern region and it's very dangerous here, but if you wanna visit safe places you need to take a look on the southern part of Brazil. The states os Parana, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul are very safe compared to the northeastern states.
If you wanna visit Brazil, take a look on the southern region, but not the southeastern one, those are dangerous too.

@@user-pp5wy8zz8j here in Brazil, we call the southern region 'Sul', which literally means 'South', the 'Sul' region is made up by Parana, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul and it's the safest place to live in Brazil.
Meanwhile, the region of 'Sudeste' which literally translates to 'Southeast' is made up by the most populated states in the country, those are São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo. The Southeast Region is safe compared to the northeast, but it's also dangerous in the capital cities like Rio and São Paulo.

O Brasil é um país onde muitos jovens são influenciados pelas drogas,músicas (de baixo escalão por muitas vezes),pobrezas, dificuldade de emprego. Os principais local conhecidos pelos BRASILEIROS são: Rio de Janeiro e São Paulo, mais claro todo lugar tem. Mais muitas das pessoas desse país tem uma humildade grande, ainda sendo um país de pessoas briguentas KKK. Eu considero que presidentes,prefeitos.. políticos em geral não pensão relativamente nós Cidadãos do país, mais vcs estrangeiros nunca entenderam a realidade do Brasil

These are usually related to war between gangs... When some try to expand their territory or just when they hold a grudge from another gang, those heavy videos are kinda rare to be related to normal people, who don't mess with this kind of stuff
@giovanna Most of us do really live like this and we're all victims of criminality, no matter if you're middle, higher or lower class . I live in a good neighborhood of Sao Paulo and many of my neighbors were kidnappened or had their house invaded when they were coming back from work and opening the gates. Every now and then we hear a case of a home invasion or a kidnapping, it happens every month. I live in Morumbi Sao Paulo btw

@@lucasryan4181 But the war between gangs ends up extrapolating for the whole population, violence is never "contained", the violence that happens between the drug lords impacts the whole society, just see what happened in São Paulo when the PCC made attacks on the city like a terror group, or how big bank robberies are occurring most of them financed by the drug cartels, and civilians catch in the middle are being killed. So violence in Brazil for civilians is not rare at all, it happens almost everyday.
