I've sewn a lot of this style of pouch for friends and myself with mesh, lightweight nylon and 1000D Cordura and No. 8 YKK zippers. Most use them for a First-Aid-Kit. They are super simple to make if you know how to thread a household sewing machine. Considering the costs of a zipper and the fabric (and labor) the ones from Kifaru are priced right. The advantages of making them yourself would be different fabrics, colors and you can place the zipper off-center to fill them in another way and add different attachment points, straps, inner pouches, PALS etc.
I use dollar store nylon "shoe bags" comes in various colors,no zipper "draw strings"and can be clearly labeled with a permanent marker..The bags in the review are "cooler, and lighter" but cost much more...
I just ordered some dry bags today because I have a new larger pack coming so I want things to be organized and to have easy access. Not to mention it will keep things dry and compact.
Just what I have been looking for! Lightweight backpacking organizers that aren't some crazy florescent colors. Why must mainstream backpacking gear all be crazy bright colors. I'm not trying to glow when I go into the woods. Thanks for another great review!
+TheOutdoorGearReview Hi Luke, Hope your having a great day. I have the backcountry sled, and the Slick Bag, my most recent is the Duplex Timberline Pack, I also have some Meat Bags, I love using them all.
Excellent video man! Me and my camp buddy were out doing some cold weather testing on our current gear setups. I personally use the MOLLE II Rucksack and could have definitely used a medium and small in these bags last night lol. I'll definitely be buying a few bags. Thanks again!
I own a few of these and they are excellent .... Extremely light weight and very durable . only issue I have with KIFARU IS THE VERY SLOW SHIPPING TIME ......
Was just looking for something good to keep my pack organized earlier today. And along comes another one of your phenomenally helpful videos. Deffinatly going to try out these pullouts ordering tommorow afternoon! Looks worth taking a look. Keep up the Great work Luke!! -Cody
+Steve Gomez Kuiu has some interesting options to consider but those options are bit different than these from Kifaru. Good recommendation though. - Luke
I have been using the Vaultz bags for both my hiking packs and bug out bag since you did that video way back in the day and still haven't found anything better.
Hi Luke, either I missed it or you didn't touch on their ability to repel water. I read only one review that states "Water proof" which I am skeptical of. Maybe "Water resistant"? What say you? Otherwise, as usual, a good review and quality video.
They look like great bags. If my Granite Gear bags ever fall apart I'll definitely look into these. (mine are a solid color but about the same size as your rope kit bag). Also, LOVE the bloopers!
Don't know if the toughness and weight savings justify choosing these over typical lightweight dry sacks, especially since the dry sacks also allow you to compress the contents.
+dajolaw I wouldn't compared these to dry sacks as they aren't waterproof and aren't meant for compressing. These are simple organization bags. Have a good weekend. - Luke
First off love the vids. But these just seem to much. I've used the vaults mesh bags for 2 years now, because you recommend them. I've had to buy them twice because I busted one and had a squirrel chewed through one, but at under $7 for the mesh bag set (4 of them) you can't beat that.
Thanks Luke, appreciate the vid. I purchased the Vaultz bags, per your recommendation, and they work great for me. Super inexpensive, color-coded, and see-through. Don't think I'll be upgrading any time soon, but nice to see what else is out there.
granite gear has UBERLight cuben dry sacks..the one you showed would be the heavy duty one with the cordura bottom and top... not a comparison..if you compared the uberlight to this they would weigh less..
+matanuska high There a few companies that offer cuben dry sacks. Hyperlite Mountain Gear make some great ones. I haven't tested out G.G.'s. What I showed was a zippered storage case for a dry bag from G.G. The top is mesh. - Luke
Looks like high quality gear, but it doesn't look they will do anything that zip lock freezer bags won't do, at a far lower price....and they are easy to replace. You can buy hundreds of plastics bags for $45.
+Rob Cook You're right but then there are people who don't like disposable plastic stuff and you can't replace them if they fail you in the middle of nowhere.
Fair enough. These bags must be around 30D (nothing on the website), so durability will always be compromised. The 500D would hold up but weight goes through the roof. To each unto their own.

I love Kifaru gear an products, I don't have these storage bags yet though, I'll definitely be ordering these soon! -Jake
+YT Lone Wolf What Kifaru products do you have Jake? Take card brother.

do you know what Material it use?
Nice! Kifaru makes solid stuff! Keep it up.

This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank You so much!!

+Rogue inWA1775 The fabric is waterproof, but the zippers and seams are not. Its the same fabric they use to make the tipis and tarp shelters.

hey look! what is the music you were playing at the beginning of this video. has a sweet sound to it. can you tell me? cheers mate.
Love the review, thinking about doing some reviews on my new outdoorsy channel, you defiantly give me the confidence, thanks Luke!

Hi, thanks for the video, can I ask what the music at 6.42min was? Cheers
Nice bags. Thanks for sharing
I like them , but the price is a little high. I just use the Walmart dry sacks , 3 for $9.97
But I'm like you as far as organizing my pack.
Are those bags water proof or water resistant?
+Sea To Shining Sea Water resistant but not waterproof brother. - Luke
+TheOutdoorGearReview Thanks, good to know. Love the videos and gear reviews.
What's a courage bag?
+Brad Skarin Do you mean cordage bag Brad? - Luke
Hahaha nice bloopers at the end

Problem is they all look the same, no color coding option and pain in the a$$ having to unpack and unzip all the pouches to find something quick.
+dcentral Good point about the coding option. It would be easy to do something like this and you could use a bit of duct tape or even paracord. - Luke

I wear a bag so I don't have to pull out !
HIIII YOOOO
1st.
They spent a lot of time finding the absolute worst colour in the world.
Otherwise amazing product.
