Luke. For people like myself whom have never served, you do a great job in helping us mere mortals in understanding the complexities often associated with surplus kit. Thanks for your time.
Dude! I love military surplus. I’ve used it for 6 years in the Marine Corps and 11 years in the Army. After 17 years of service using this equipment I can’t imagine using anything else. I’m always afraid to tear civilian gear. I know my gear will survive my abuse. People mock the term “military grade” as lowest bidder, but if it’s still tough enough to take it and ask for more. If you ever feel you have To much feel free to send me your extra! I’m actually shopping for a GP medium tent at this time.
Good to know. I own a Modular Sleep System and should get this to attach to my pack. I know there's lighter stuff available now, but it was the most affordable way to get a full-range sleep system.
I love this carrier bag. After doing the research (and to save you the work): These were the way to carry your giant sleep system with the Large Molle II "Rifleman" rucksack. Those rucks were usually in woodland and muted desert camo. The updated digital camo Large Molle II Rucksacks (the ones available everywhere) incorporated a bottom zipper compartment at the bottom which replaced the need for this bag. Having said that, I add these carriers bags to those rucks as well and like the additional space they provide.
Hey Luke, I bought one of those packs a few months ago and I love it! I put it under my camping bag for my mss. It's amazing and absolutely worth it. I haven't regretted it! Thanks for the video!
yup it is actually the best i nthe business. im replacing my snugpak endurance covered in MOLLE for a ALICE with frame and ima add the sleep system carrier. then i gotta replace my HUGE winter bag 20 pounds heavy. for a 10lbs MSS.
Hey Luke, great to see you sporting a Alice "Hellcat"!, ! I did the same to my medium Alice pack also, along with the MSS carry bag, I also attached the Molle II shoulder straps and waist belt. So much more comfortable!
I use this with an ALICE pack on a MOLLE II frame. I attached it with para cord to the frame through the pouch loops with Canadian clinch knots. Great bag, lots of uses and very versatile.
I have a heavy alice pack and I'm thinking about doing this with it, but use it for my actual MSS. I know this video has been up for a while but still, thanks for the great idea!
Good Morning Luke. A challenge. I'm sure you have a complete MSS system ie...black bag, green bag, gortex cover and compression sack. Love to see you get all that in the carrier. Once you try that I think you'll see it's not as "huge" as it first looks. Note: don't use the molle ll version mss.....it's smaller and lighter. Don't remember a vid of yours demonstrating this aspect. Watching you since 1200 subscribers. Now 200,000!!!! wow, what a journey. Congrats. Hope all is well w/the family! ATB
I've used one of these on a medium Alice for a number of years... I actually went full Molle ll on my Alice with the Molle ll shoulder straps and waist belt on a Down East plastic frame. The sleep system carrier has small metal toggles on the outside corners and these clip into the plastic frame like on the Molle ll packs. All this makes a great system.. I now use the Dutch Lowe Alpine Sting pack which is also a great pack...
There is one thing you left out on the description, the surplus stuff it's just beyond tough in most cases . We really enjoy our Alice 1 and 2 thieve been on our backs now for some 30 years but we have the tray also . Great review as all ways Luke keep up the invaluable reviews if people take the time they can save a ton of money by watching .Happy Trails
I have a woobie blanket, USGI wool blanket, ECWSS patrol bag, S.A.S basha tarp, and tent stakes in mine! Yes it will fit all of that! I have the whole ruck system, but that is just the gear in the sleep system carrier.
I got 3 on ebay for $25. I put one on my Dad's Alice and one on mine. Great pack additions. I mount mine with the lid on top and weave the long straps through the alice pack loops and then in and out of the alice frame. Makes it so when you open it the bag will stay and when you cinch the straps it will tighten to the frame better. Great video I like the reviews of this older mil surp.
I just snagged one in Desert Camo from Ebay for $30 completely unissued. I prefer that color because I run a FILBE and a smaller pack in coyote. Good finds on Ebay for those looking for a great deal.
Very nice didn't know of this before. I have a British Army Artic 4 sleeping bag and this will enable me to keep it from taking up the huge space of the main compartment of my bag or act as a good way to organise it all. I have to see if I can find one in Europe now.
this works good with the alice pack. but the pack it was meant to go with. the woodland camp molle pack with the external frame. it fits even better. i have both the alice od pack and the woodland camo molle pack with external frame. it fits so good on it. my 2 favorite backs. the alice pack and the molle pack with external frame. i added the 2 sustainment pouch pouches to each side that hold gear and mres. the molle pack with the sleep system and the sustainment pouches are my favorite system i got.
Luke, nice vid... but you gotta change your shoulder strap attachments. Those thin & horizontal straps are made to carry a flashlight, radio, 1st aid pack... or some other lightweight item. They may hold up for a little while. But the more you use the pack, or start to carry heavier loads, they will eventually fail.
I m sure that would attach to my Vulcan Cyclops 11. It also comes in Desert Camo, I would prefer it in Non Camo Olive Green. Think I prefer the Modular Sleep Pouch LBT
I need to get one of these for my Large Alice pack. Might even get 3 of them, one for the bottom and two for the sides of my pack. Weight doesn't bother me, I just love the storage ability. If you could make it detachable from your pack somehow it would make for a nice hanging bag for your food too.
The size of this carrier is likely why I’ve avoided it. It’s large enough for me to make bad decisions. Alice chemical suit bag is a bit more compact and forces me to choose lighter sleeping bags. I supplement the lighter bags with a poncho liner attached to Alice by virtue of a Molle II training pack. Ultimately, my Alice pack amounts to the frame, bag, and chem suit bag adapted to a sleep system carrier. The straps, waist belt, sustainment pouches, and training pack are all Molle II. It’s been “fun” sourcing all of the Molle II items in woodland camo when UCP is everywhere.
Those things actually fit the ALSO CE pack better than the MOLLE pack, funny enough. On the MOLLE pack, the straps get pulled so closely together and looks kinda trashy. On ALICE, the loops on the bottom really line up well.
Great addition to the ALICE pack! I found a tan aftermarket ALICE and matched it to a desert camo MSS MOLLE 2 carrier. For some reason mine is mounted opposite yours, so the flap opens facing the deck. I think i like your method better since it would tend to keep the contents cleaner when laying the pack down and opening it on the dirty ground.
Mines attached to my MOLLE Riflemans Rucksack. Sucker is massive. Its like a blackhole when you open it up! Would like a second one to attach to my LC1 Y-Harness system.
If using a normal backpack thread some paracord through a section on the bottom of the bag with hot nail or something so it doesnt rip. Truckers hitch tighten up and secure with double hitch
Got one that is attached to a MOLLE 2 pack but i take it off and use it with my ALICE and Gen 1 ILBE. I use it for just plain old extra storage what ever i need to pack in, but usually I have a warm weather Gi surplus sleep system, ground tarp and hammock straps and under quilt packed into the bag. I bought 2 off Ebay for $30 with shipping... most vendors dealing with surplus gear you can haggle with, they buy in lots at wholesale prices so as long as your offer isn't too low most of the time they will be open to make deals. the worst that can happen is they say no.
Hey Gerret, BFD, Who cares if Luke was in the Forces (I assume you are refering to the armed forces). Luke is obviously an outdoorsman and is sharing info for others like myself that share the same interests.
@@outhere2876 Really! I thought I was being positive Like I said, "Luke is obviously an outdoorsman and is sharing info for others like myself that share the same interests."
Mr Luke, do you like military surplus stuff? i served in the Marines and had used the alice packs. never had that sack though. always used the black compression sleeping system my entire career.
I am so sick of lazy men. I've used this system numerous times and never had any issues, for one I am not lazy. My favorite way to use it is on the back of my saddle when I go out for a weekend camping trip with the horses. Provides tons of storage for a lot of my gear.
Thanks for all your great work. Have you done a review this whole pack? Looks like the hellcat mod. I would love to see the best way to put the molle shoulder straps on the frame with the med Alice pack.
I’ll have to check this out. I have a very large winter rectangle sleeping bag that needs a stuff sack ( Canadian fall hunting gets cold 🥶) thanks will have to check measurements
Make a video on how to clean up grassy and bushy area prevent insects such as mosquito and ticks surrounding your area. They carry disease especially ticks.
I roll my miltec bivy with 4cm inflate mat and 5/0 celsius sleeping bag inside and attach them to bottom of my pack inside waterproof 14 litre compression bicycle pouch with load distributor that's normally intended for bicycle steering handle attachment made by zefal adventure F14. I don't roll it very tight so there is some room for sleeping bag.
I use this with my large ALICE pack on a MOLLE frame that is ALICE compatible. The MOLLE frame, straps and waist belt being far superior to the ALICE gear.
Hey Luke, I have the MSS carrier too n I’m wondering if it’ll be okay to attach it the bottom of an assault pack WITHOUT a frame. You think it’ll rip out if I just put my sleeping gear in there? Maybe you need more info to answer but was just wondering. Thanks! Love your videos!
Kept my eyes on that Rothco Medium ALICE pack. Looks to be one of the newer ones since they painted those snaps green. Are you doing a video on it? You could compare it to an issued one. I have one myself, but the snaps are still black. I love finding the used knock-off ALICE packs and modifying those.
old video now, but in case anyone is looking in to these, they are becoming much harder to find in wooland camo. I recently found them on Colemans .com ~25. but the few on ebay are nearing $80
Pretty cool. I’m currently refurbishing both a large and a medium ALICE pack. Is there a good way to affix it to the top of your pack instead? I like the weight up high instead of smacking me in the butt:)
Oh yeah, where is your hat, it is the summer time you know. Up on that mountain you are several hundred feet closer to the sun. (Insert joking tone and inflection)

If it can survive being packed with crayons and being used everyday by a marine, then it's good enough for the occasional outings.
Good to know. I own a Modular Sleep System and should get this to attach to my pack. I know there's lighter stuff available now, but it was the most affordable way to get a full-range sleep system.
Luke you are right it can be attached in so many ways I have attached to my 5.11 rush 24 and have set up to be removed quickly as a stand alone bag.
I love this carrier bag. After doing the research (and to save you the work): These were the way to carry your giant sleep system with the Large Molle II "Rifleman" rucksack. Luke.
Great video!
Don’t forget the D rings on both sides.
I attach a shoulder strap to the D rings
and carry it over the shoulder.
I like your franken pack. With the Alice pack and the molle pack straps and waist belt. It’s all about what works not what’s purdy.
I've used them for many things including, vehicle survival kit, and a weekend bag.
I use this with an ALICE pack on a MOLLE II frame. I attached it with para cord to the frame through the pouch loops with Canadian clinch knots. Great bag, lots of uses and very versatile.
Thanks Luke! Reading my mind! You have great videos. I keep watching them better than movies! Winter camps very cool love the extremes of weather. Jim

I used the old military sleeping bag carrier, we called them spegetti straps when I was in the army.
Luke did the hellcat mods. Way to go Luke! I won't go back after doing mine.

That is the newest looking Alice pack I've ever seen.
Great piece of gear.
Wish we grunts had this when I served in Korea during the Vietnam War.

all kidding aside. it's good for stuffing your tent into.
200,000 subscriber's, 200k!!!! simply amazing and well deserved.
The sleep system is heavy enough on it’s own! I stopped with military surplus after my first outing with mostly MS kit.
I m sure that would attach to my Vulcan Cyclops 11. It also comes in Desert Camo, I would prefer it in Non Camo Olive Green. Think I prefer the Modular Sleep Pouch LBT

Awesome! I've been searching for a bag to carry a hammock set up with quilts and tarp to attach to my Rush 72. This looks like it will be perfect.

A very useful piece of low cost gear.
Looking through the amazon site. DCU one for little over 21.00 and little over 27.00 in sh ipping cost. Thanks for the update!

Been thinking about getting one for my Alice..thanks for twisting my arm,lol...
Looks like I could mount this right to the bottom of my Army Medium MOLLE II ruck.
That’s what it’s made for.
It'll swing and bang on your rectum -- better to mount it on top of the ruck
Mr Luke, do you like military surplus stuff? i served in the Marines and had used the alice packs. never had that sack though. always used the black compression sleeping system my entire career.
Just ordered one. Trying to figure out how to attach it to my Eberlestock Warhammer with G1 little brother.
Informative video. I’ve found one and will purchase it tomorrow.
With paracord... Everything is Atachable. By the way... I believe your bag is upside down. The flap should open up so as to prevent water accumatlion.
Got one on my rifleman molle 2 and it fit my tent and parka and my thick ground tarp

I can't do that. I used that space to carry my weights and bar bells. Yes I need to work out even when I am through hiking.

Luke, looks like I decent pack and sleep system for the money.
I use this with my large ALICE pack on a MOLLE frame that is ALICE compatible. The MOLLE frame, straps and waist belt being far superior to the ALICE gear.
Definitely a useable item
That is very cool.

can this be converted into a backpack? it's the perfect size for compatibility with a waistpack on an flc
I'm getting one.
Hi Luke, Great Vid. I have an interest in surplus gear (It is my belief that it is quality), how far are you from E. Tn?
I know it’s way late lol but I just found your channel! What sleeping bag is that you have in there?
Excellent
I have a military sleep system and it comes in 3 parts which makes it huge to carry, is there a better mss out there ?
I only use the components I need for the trip/season. If you have a tent, don't pack the bivy. Warm climate? Just pack the Patrol Bag, etc.
Very informative. Thanks! Subbed.
thanks for the review
Thank you.
So it can be used with a backpack that has straps on the bottom for gear attachment?
This was very helpful my thanks, definitely on my to-buy list, makes me look like I'm back in Nam baby!
ps. pls. do match the colours next time! :D
Thanks...very useful.
Do you think it would fit the old us down sleep bag
MOLLE compatible. Not PALS compatible... Except it kinda is. Lol fun distinction.
I sent for one and a new ewic sleep system for $199.
I just had to do it. Is that wrong?
is there a superior non-military surplus lightweight version of this pack out there?
Will this work on the medium Savitta Jaakari ?
just out of curiosity, how much did your entire pack weigh in the video?
Does it work with standard issue British army bergan??
I definitely need something like this for my rush 72...I its military surplus but does it come in black? I try to keep a low profile for my area.
@Timothy Mckee I also have a basic combat bag used in desert storm so I guess I can match that...thanks!!
Which kidney pad do you have on your ALICEpack
I'm pretty sure Luke is a Navy SEAL. I can't know for sure but his no BS is a clue.
