    Producers feel that they are left in the dark when the song gets popular and the artist/singer starts touring. For example an artist can have 3M followers on Instagram and then their main producer will have 3K on Instagram. Okay I know the general public don't care about who made the music but for us producers and DJS we are the backbone of the music industry. #ratetheproducer

    This is a very interesting perspective of why the producers moved to the front. I would also add that this is not only money issue, but also the desire to get the credit as they do most of the hard work, with contrast to a singer who just comes to the recording session and goes back home...

    A producer makes music themselves.
    A dj plays music
    A producer can also be a dj (Martin garrix, skrillex)
    A dj is well...a dj

  • @HoofCreaition
    @HoofCreaition 6 років тому +3

    Because some tracks were released in 2017 I actually took a dj course or two to discover what that whole dj thing is about. Technically it is not the hardest job in the world (especially if you do not mind the old folks bragging on about syncing vinyl records that had been dragged through customs all over the world, that were in suitcases professional athletes would never touch if they were flying to the olympics). Knowing how to put a series of tracks on a sound system is NOT something should ever be payed for, the machines do that work, you just have to know where the 1 is, in counting them stuff.
    But the thing real dj's know, is how to read a crowd, just as Jon said. And the best thing about mixing being a dj AND a producer, is that you can really learn what works, and what does not. For a lot of EDM producers, you kind of should have some feel with how to get people dancing.
    So a producer of music that is made to make people dance, is greatly helped by the input of someone who actually makes people dance.
    I do think it is the best to be both at the same time. And when I look at interviews or documentaries of electronic musicians (producers), the ones that are crafting their work really good, are the ones that have the opportunity to really testdrive their music in the real world.
    My point is, I guess, that the two worlds of the djs and the producers need to work together. If you want to be known as a fantastic dj these days, you can not do that without releasing tracks that just work (and that get the crowds in when you are on the flyer). If you want to be a succesful producer these days, you can not do that without knowing how music works on a night in the club, on the festival or on the radio.
    And yes. I am still making three minute intros to potentially epic tracks where every minute detail gets introduced and every subtle addition almost brings tears to my own eyes. I love it. But in the real world, if the music should get played online, on the radio, in the club, on a festival.. you need to have the knowledge of the dj to really understand the fact that if nothing interesting is happening in the first 10 seconds, it will be your own party and nobody elses.

    When I was coming through a producer was this person who was backstage & pretty much invisible (Trevor Horn is a good example) and concentrated on the producing music to be played on radio and and in clubs or wherever & the DJ was the person who curated a theme in the clubs, bars etc & promoted the music that was coming out, researched there track selection, you was one or the other. If you said to a "DJ/Producer" today I want you play all night for 6 hours+ and start from 90bpm to 128bpm from open to close without playing your own music many would struggle. Now what we have is music with a 2 WK shelve life & DJ's that can only play for 60 minutes and festival like events that have replaced clubs.

    Thanks Jon for this Video and your Opinion on such a big and important topic in the Scene. I think we all should take care or be a bit responsible for our consumption of what we listen to and to which act or Performer we go to a festival because of these things you mentioned here in this vlog and otherwise we are supporting the wrong People.
    At the end these fake People/Swindler being successfull because of us supporting them, us listening to there music, us buying there music and us going on these huge festivals paying way to much money for these fake and staged Person/Artist. So be careful which artist you support and maybe do a bit research before you spread/share the music artist you are supporting/listening to or might like. I am a DJ first of all and make music since 2013 but i am still in progress and try to improve as a music producer every day. In the end to compete these Fake People we should not complain or be jealous. We should try our best every day and go out there connect with people and work really hard. At the end you will succeed.

    i am djing with rekordbox and just got ableton and made a couple songs, is the scene saturated with djs to the point you need a song to blow up to get in there. i have a couple thousand dnb songs to dj now . i have found producing just as fun and is more satisfying making your own songs but djing is more easy and fun, need to learn ableton a lot.

    Hi Jon! Could you maybe discuss your views regarding DJs and preplanning their setup? I understand that for live shows like ultra everything needs to be synchronized (pyro with the music, live performers etc) but is there any harm in planning a set, making mashups beforehand, cue points and so forth and just presenting that on stage?

    Making beats doesn't make you a Producer! They aren't the same thing as the term Producer is often misused. Beat Makers are the same thing as Songwriters and Composers as they get all the same publishing royalties and songwriting credits as Lyricist. They are often credited as Writer, Composer, Instrumentation and Drum Programming in production credits NOT Producer. Record Producers are managment directing roles in the studio that direct and oversee overal production that works directly with the Artist and Engineer. Rodney Jerkins, Bryan-Michael Cox, Pharrell Williams, Dr. Dre, Scott Storch, Timbaland, J.R Rotem, and Tricky Stewart are both Composers and Record Producers wearing two different hats. They are often credited twice in production credits for both roles. Most Hip Hop Producers started out as beat makers before taking over the acting role as a "Producer", hint which is why they are called producers in the first place when they aren't making beats.
    Producer=Director
    Songwriter/Composer=Beat Maker

    The funny thing is that everyone involved
    In the music industry is responsible for how it’s turned to shit, we need everyone that knows of fake producers to expose these pieces of shit, but they won’t because in some way they too are benefiting from these connections with losers who self titled themselves as “Producers” or “Dj” no matter what the real masters of both stand out and eventually the fake fade with time.

    The funny definition to DJ
    Here IT goes "DJ is a definition of an person who isnt musically skilled, doesnt know how to produce , knows how many ghost producers he has and he plays music with his MP3 player"
    Probably The Djs from Early 2000's
    Were probably More skilled than todays producers Djing

    Let me help you and speak for PRODUCERS,when you can sit in the studio and build the drums,PLAY the blanket/Foundation/lay the bass line,play or wright the strings,lead guitar or whatever other instruments that going into the track like a teddy,face,devante,r kelly,pharell,PRINCE,DANIEL CEASER,Daz Dillinger,or the great Stevie wonder,or cj morton then you're a music producer and most prefer to work ALONE meaning they produced arranged and most of the time wrote the song and thats only a few now a dj spin records and make them hot if he is but some djs hire people to do all the music then claims of feels he did it when reality is if you sat him before a judge and he said lets here it then theres a problem lol but whatever makes one feel important

    So, is deadmau5 a DJ or a producer? Is Armin Van Buuren a producer or a DJ?

    • @TonyThomas10000
      @TonyThomas10000 6 років тому

      vinnien That is why I question the relevance of this topic. LBL says deadmau5 is a producer and Armin is a DJ. Both can be both, right? Whether someone is an imposter is a whole different subject.

    • @TonyThomas10000
      @TonyThomas10000 6 років тому

      vinnien I'm not saying that there isn't a dominant role for these two. deadmau5 is definitely better in the studio and Armin is better behind the decks. However, the line between DJs and producers is blurred.

    • @TonyThomas10000
      @TonyThomas10000 6 років тому

      Blurred in the sense that most seem to do both these days. In the old days, a DJ played music. And the producer usually didn't write or play music, but supervised the recording sessions and directed the mixing sessions. So, now, you have artists that are composers, musicians, producers, performers and DJs.

    • @TonyThomas10000
