  • What is a femtocell? A femtocell is a device that creates a small area of cellular signal in your home or office. Both a femtocell and a cell signal booster do essentially the same thing which is provide you with cellular signal in your home. But they do it in very different ways.
Femtocells work through your internet connection and convert your cell signal then send it over the internet to a femto gateway which then sends the signal out from there.
A cell phone signal booster works by taking weak signal and amplifying it, thus providing you with a strong, reliable signal to and from the cell tower.
It’s all about the details so how do these to devices differ? We compare a femtocell to a cell phone booster to show you the differences.

All the cell boosters I saw on eBay has mounting antennas for the house. I'm not good with installation, is there one that is just a box like you showed here?

Which one(signal booster or Femtocell) will work in a area where there is no tower and network coverage at all??

I am a former hacker(ethical). I used to make my own blue boxes, red and black boxes. Did a pile of phreaking. Messed with ServU daemons, you name it, I have dabbled in it. I wouldn't even know where to begin now. I do plan on writing a book about my exploits going back to the early eighties. I mean if I ever get around to it. I am a massive procrastinator.
Someone mentioned I may like the show Mr. Robot but I have yet to watch it. I don't watch a lot of TV. Great video quality and very informative

A receive amplifier (booster) can and will amplify any electrical noise (EMI) or terrestrial RF interference (from other radio sources). Consider the Signal to Noise Ratio or SNR of the device you purchase, that will give you an idea of the quality of the receive preamplifier. The other part of the equation, the transmit booster does not have as many challenges as the receive booster does.
But on the other hand, the amount of bandwidth a couple of concurrent voice conversations use on your existing internet connection does not eat up much of your bandwidth (speed). If you expect to have 6, 10 or more callers, then yes, you need take internet bandwidth into consideration.
All things considered, the Booster has more positive features when compared to other solutions that use your internet connection. Not trying to talk down about weBoost, just putting some things out there to consider. I may be a weBoost customer before too long as their solution makes the most sense for my needs. There are many more things to consider when choosing a solution to your needs, I am only throwing a couple things out there to consider. Do your research and ask lots of questions.

We live in a dead zone so a signal booster wouldnt work... We have NO signal out there so the femtocell seems to be the only option. Would pairing one of those AND a booster work for boosting the signal through the house?

We've had people install a femtocell on the top floor of their home and then use a booster to transmit signal to other parts of the home. The only issue is this will only work for one carrier. You could either get multiple femtocells for different rooms in the home OR one femtocell and one booster kit (we'd recommend the Connect 4G or 4G-X) and send the signal from the femtocell to other parts of the home. Hope that helps! Thank you for watching.

+greg La Roche It depends on the bands your operator uses. Send me an email at socialsupport@weboost.com and I'd be happy to look into this further for you.

Total baloney..... from the guys that sell only signal booster. A Femtocell is way better than a Signal booster as long as you have decent internet. It uses very little internet bandwidth, you will not be able to tell it is there, it will not -slow down your internet-. You can get 10 or more users on a femtocell and it covers maybe 7500 SF, likely better than most signal boosters. Only thing he said that is true is they are carrier specific. A Verizon signal booster ($250 for 7500SF) will not work for someone that has Sprint.
