Wow, this is my first time even witnessing this. I recently returned from a tree planting job and I loved every day of it. I would most certainly ditch the lawn mower and pick up a scythe any day, looks like a great work out!

Looks like my teenaged years. I would spend just about as much time sharpening my scythe as mowing. Some of the weeds that were common were pretty tough and would dull the blade quickly.

    My grandfather rules:
    1. always right leg forward
    2. left elbow attached to the body
    3. heel of the scythe always glued to the ground.

Christianne is mowing with a snath borrowed from a taller person as part of a tutorial so has adapted her grip to suit. Her own scythe is fully adjusted to her own body proportions. These modern snath designs are adjustable and made in a range of sizes to fit anyone from children of 1.4m to adults up to 2m tall

Yes as they need to give a quick 20 second sharpen every 5 minutes or so of mowing

I'm thinking of a family cemetery where one of these would work so much better than a mower and such.

Awesome man YT is actively shadow banning and out right banning content creators. I think the new content is down so the algorithm pulls up older content into watcher’s feeds. 🤷🏽‍♂️

I know nothing of this industry, but I got a quick idea. Even without an engine, couldn't their be a better way than twisting the back like that, with a machine that operates with foot pedals and has wheels which roll forward while swinging a blade in front? Google "Pedal powered farms and factories: the forgotten future of the stationary bicycle" for the basic idea in farming in general.

Typical macho guys, trying to muscle their way through and as a result, they have poor technique and broken tools. Only the girl and the teacher showed any finesse and skill. Let the scythe do the work Fellas and stay sharp.

I thought so too, they were way too tense and gave too much strenght into it, no wonder that one blade snapped. It did seem to be a workshop though, still should've corrected them to prevent bad muscle memory. And I thought the half-circle they cut was way too large, I haven't done nor seen this in ages, but it was always a much narrower stance and easy movement

You should teach them what it feels like after a full day of scything, with the sweat, the bugs that live in the grass, and the sheer exhaustion. Not one person in this video, including the teacher, would last just one day. And imaging day after day. You'd be _begging_ for a mechanical mower, just like our mid-19th century forebearers.

That's true, but after a day of sitting at the office, many people are begging to go to a gym that they happily spend hundreds of dollars a month working out at. So scything a little bit of lawn might be better for them!
