    Perfect form. I just smithed my first Scythe blade. Man they are challenging. Most people don't know that the scythe rides flat on the ground and only cuts a narrow strip of grass, and once you get in a rhythm you can basically shut your brain off and just daydream.

      I know what you are talking about. I cut plenty of grass growing up on a farm.

      You are spot on. For a long time, I have been trying to cut a too broad strip of grass. Instead, one should do as if one simply wanted to push sideways what has been cut on the previous stroke, and it works almost like magic.

    very nice. I just started scything.
    I'm going to try this technique. I can't seem to get the motion down. but I'm determined to get the hang of it!
    Although by probably the middle of that section I'd have to resharpen my blade!! You make it look amazingly easy!

    Nice, inspiring video. I think it's great that you have found an environmentally friendly way to cut down the weeds/grass. It also seems like a great way to exercise. I love hearing the birds in the background. Thanks for sharing.

      It's wonderful that you are carrying on the tradition of your Great Grandfather. So many things our Great Grandparents did on a daily basis have become dying arts. I too try to keep some of those traditions alive. In doing so, I can pass those things along to others and honor those that have passed on.

    You couldn't apply that technique on my hilly land !
    I went back to using my scythe around the orchard after I grew fed up with engine trimmers, and really love it, but still have to use a bar mower for the larger plots.
    And... ThaiChi needs slow motions, when cutting grass you have to produce !

    • @georgette303
      @georgette303 6 років тому

      Heh, you'd lose that bet. I'm over sixty years old and cut native grass on my five acres with an austrian style blade every week during our long hot summers. Not just this summer but for the past 25 years. I've found that people who gasp at bare feet and express skepticism at any and all parts of the process have either not actually spent any time with a good sharp scythe or tried it and quit when the blade got dull.

    • @valleyoftheheart
      @valleyoftheheart 6 років тому

      Claudio Venturelli I would say easier, not more efficient. Lawn mowers cost quite a bit of money, require gas to run, and can't mow grass that's grown too high. A scythe requires more manpower, but doesn't need any gas or parts replaced to run and is a lower initial cost. Not to mention they're significantly quieter than mowers and can get in corners and near fences that mowers can't.

    • @tommasofossati5123
      @tommasofossati5123 6 років тому +1

      AmmieDanceAndViolin and scythes are as fast if not faster than brush cutters, for example (even with a Blade instead of wire)
      They simply are more tiring and difficult to use
      If you cut the grass for feeding animals there is nothing better than a clean cut of a scythe
      The reason why we use Power tools even when not required is the fact we are getting more and more LAZY
