How Tesla BROKE the Barriers of Automotive Safety

  • Teslas are known for their impressive safety ratings and innovative safety systems. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have consistently given Tesla's Model S, Model 3, and Model X top marks for safety, with the Model X becoming the first SUV ever to receive a perfect crash test rating in 2017. Tesla's latest Model Y SUV received the highest overall score of any vehicle ever tested by the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP). Tesla's safety engineering approach involves both passive and active safety systems, with the goal of minimizing the effects of accidents and helping the vehicle avoid accidents altogether. The design of Tesla vehicles includes large crumple zones and fortified battery packs that act as barriers to prevent intrusion into the cabin, and the low placement of the heavy battery pack and motors helps reduce the risk of rollover, particularly in SUVs like the Model Y. Elon Musk has directed Tesla to use AI and Tesla Vision in order to improve the airbags and seatbelt pretensioners in the vehicles, making them the safest cars ever built. #Tesla #elonmusk #safestcars

In 2001 my company car was a Renault Laguna. For me a great car as it had quite some tech novelties. It had optional side impact airbags for the rear passengers. Since I had two toddlers at the time I ordered them, because I wouldn’t forgive myself, if in the case of an accident my children would die because of the lack of airbags.
Since then I’ve always selected the side impact airbags for every car I had. Luckily they where never deployed while I had them.
My current Model 3P, is the first car that doesn’t have any safety features as an option. Safety features are built-in as standard.
No other car for me than a Tesla.
Don’t get me started on all the other things I love, love, love about this car.

Excellent overview about Tesla’s safety approach.
The really innovative thing that Tesla does is use real-world data from their fleet to identify vulnerabilities, develops a solution, and then pushes that solution out to the fleet through a software update. This could even be updates that improve the performance of air bags or seatbelts.

There are so many pluses to Tesla, first Elon is not only extremely intelligent, incredibly hardworking, and has excellent ethics, but he truly cares for humanity above wealth. I think a great addition to the many Tesla subsidiaries would be their own advertising department, Elon himself is hilarious and it would be adventageous to get the straight facts to the sheople who only watch regular television without having to throw money at existing advertising agencies... or just partner up with a "good" agency for some informative ads ... Elon/Tesla make it a point to only partner with "good" companies. This is integral to their mission of doing the best possible things to assist humanity. If I had a wish I would wish all of humanity could see Elon for what he truly is... likely one of if not the only extremely wealthy and thus finacially powerful individual who truly cares about who.... you... and all others... including the earth etc.

This (the principles of automotive safety) has been known for a very long time. (1) That the occupants are contained in a very strong (resistant to deformation) cage (3) That all other parts that surround that cage should be crump able. (except the cage itself) (3) That things inside that cage should be restrained from flying around, and passengers from direct impact against solid things within the cage. Since the "battery pack" is a foundational part of that cage then placing a lot of emphasis on its structure goes a long way towards the strength of the whole cage.

Airbags outside the car can improve safety to the car occupants. Jaguar did this under the bonnet of one of their cars, to soften the blow for pedestrians. That's good but the side impact crashes don't have much space to slow the passengers down. Jaguar's airbag was under the bonnet and pushed the metal up, so the pedestrian struck would push it down. That can be done with the doors. The airbags can push the exterior door panel out as much as 30 cm just before a crash, so the car occupants have this much give, this much crumple zone on the side. That's a lot. When combined with the curtain airbags, seatbelts, it could reduce the impact shock by a massive amount.

Just a thought, In my mind ,Tesla is a accelerating black swan event. There is just too many converging technologies at play ,for most wall Street and institutional analyst to wrap their head around.
Teslas third generation platform, it’s not what most analyst thinks it is. First and foremost it’s about manufacturing,Possibly full body casting and drive by wire ,both would be logical. With drive by wire they could have driver controls or not. But more importantly it will increase Teslas addressable market massively,Tesla Could
easily reach 10 million vehicles by 2026.
Like when Tesla introduced the cyber truck it’s design confused most analysts, the same thing will happen when they introduced their new third generation platform. Tesla will be a dilemma for the majority of traditional Analysts ,until it’s not.🤔IMO
