👍Hey Liam, I love the Model 1.4 mixer that is a great piece of gear. Like how you keep things clean and simple, keeps everything more focused with no distractions 😁
The only thing I care about is what my ears hear and how the body responds. I have never seen a piece of gear and start cutting a rug. Great job and keep having fun!
You may want to consider replacing the rmx1000 with ableton plugins on send channels with macro mappings, that would allow you to create almost any combination and eliminate a piece of hardware! Tom Cosm has a nice ableton template that does exactly this there are insane combinations of effects. But personally just for the cool factor I'd also do the octatrack 🙃Thanks for putting out such high quality content. Questions/Thoughts... 1. Did your model1.4 pots loosen up over time? I find mine to be really tight and its almost hard to make quick transitions without feeling like I am going to twist off the knob. 2. The advantage to using ableton with the m1.4 is you can set levels beforehand so slamming between channels isnt an issue. 3. Simpler is better, with the novation it means one less power plug and the push I feel is over complicated for straight triggering but needs separate power.
I think it's a good thing filming isn't allowed in most of the german Techno Clubs. It just keeps it a safespace which i think also stands for the Rave scene. But as Dj i understand the pain of not having cool footage of your set. Anyways keep on grooving 🤙
Hey, Liam! I recently tried Logic Pro on Ipad(it costs 5$ a month 🤯) with my mpc one and microfreak I would say that it works quite well. This is the most dawless daw setup I've ever used and I really liked it. This is just a suggestion for a future video
Hi Liam great video, thanks for sharing, one quick question: you mentioned the Rmx1000 is in-between the Model 1.4 and the speaker, does it mean you can not monitor the effect via headphones? And why not connect it to the S/R port on Model 1.4? Thanks.
It doesn't really work well in S / R port - I find that the RMX-1000 really works best as a live performance master FX tool and I actually haven't seen it used in any other way.
As the RMX-1000 has balanced inputs (TRS), why don't you simply plug the XLR Master Out from the Model 1.4 into the RMX-1000 via XLR to TRS adapters? This way, you would have a balanced signal path to the RMX. The master outs from the mixer seem to be otherwise unused in your setup
filming in most clubs is not allowed in Berlin...might turn some people off but that lends to help people to focus on the music than documenting the nite and to be less concerned and let themselve go. Nice setup and clever way to go about it despite not liking the RMX 1000 at all
How do the filter sound quality and the overall sound quality compare to the xone 96? I was wondering as this mixer is almost the same without having the audio interfaces and midi control as well.
Thanks, really interesting setup, I have A&H db4 which I was thinking of using in the same way. I've been trying to use it has a hardware FX unit but can't work out the mapping...
@@LiamKillen ah ok interesting, I’m having to use an old laptop because the drivers haven’t been updated for the db4, so just seeing what software I can combine, Traktor being one of them. I watched your hybrid/ modular setup video and saw the X1 there right? I was wondering if it could map to Abelton too…
Ok, so what about this for future iterations. If you remove the pioneer and change it for the sp404mk2, you could first use it as performance effects, master effects, and even you could load your fills into the sampler of the sp404 and launch them from there.
The thing about the mk2 is that it isn’t great for builds. Here’s a comparison between the mk2 + RMX-1000 actually: ua-cam.com/video/4jC5-B0U-FE/v-deo.html
Sick setup. Have you ever considered using an Ableton Push? It looks like you have a lot easier access to everything you need, but it wouldn't take up too much (imo) more space than the launch pad.
@@LiamKillen if you're not going DAWless (or if money is a factor) a used push 2 will get you like 95% of what a push 3 will get you. I always want new gear even if I don't need it, and while the push 3 is enticing, I somehow don't feel the "push" to upgrade. Push 2 is an amazing option as well.
Ohhhhh man you nailed it! My only real gripe Besides ylthe sll Black scheeme and those slippery sleek loss like faders. My main and biggest gripe is the fact there is no insert to the main out for integration of a Master 3 band or 4 band isolator. The Master iso is a power full tool for Building drama! You can use the rmx 1000 Master iso and modify its use inside the settings but nowhere near a grade A Master iso.
as a newbie, one thing i m strugling to understand. you decided to use an interface with multi outs, and an analog mixer to to apply effects to each stereo out. why dont you just use another midi controller to imitate your model 1.4 mixer, doing the effects just in ableton and so you can use a standart audio interface with just 2 outputs? no critism, just full curiosity. please help, anybody. is it just a personal preference, or there is a good logical benefit behind it? kinda the same question for the pioneer effects unit. but at least that does not require an audio interface with many outputs.
@@LiamKillen yes I keep it up pretty high, too 😁 The filter is always on in other people's videos, too, but that guy told me to keep it off in between mixing, so I do.
Please make a series on DJing with live. I know deadmau5 and a few others do it. It seems only good if its your own material and not for weddings or night clubs.
Really considering the Model 1.4 for a live set up and using the send with my Analog Heat + Fx. Do you think this would be a good pairing? Do you think it's worth the price tag? Seems a bit steep compared to other mixers but you're doing a great sell job on me 💸
That would be an amazing combo for sure. The cool thing about the model 1 / model 1.4 is that it works in a DJ context, it also destroys in any sort of hardware set up and encourages you to...play differently 😉
Hej Liam, got a request for a new video, could you do a "how to add swing on the SP404 Mk2 Sequencer" Video? that would be amazing, there is no good video out there explaning this
Hello Liam, this might be a tough question as they are different beasts but if you had to choose between the OP1 and the digitone which would you keep? I'm an OP1 owner but because of OCD i'm constantly worried that it might break or that it's never living up to it's value. So i'm considering selling it for a digitone. If i didnt have to worry about the money, i'd keep the OP1 but the fear of it breaking will always haunt me.
Personally, i think the digitakt is much closer to what the op-1 is. If you were to switch it would make more sense. I also highly recommend that you make that switch 😏 but that’s just my take
Have you tried the Akai Force? I'm thinking of buying it since its all in one box with support in almost eeeevery feature I'd want. It also has great clip capabilities like how you're using Ableton here. I don't want to interact with a classic pc/daw when just playing music, so thinking of the Akai Force. It's either that or (what I have right now) model samples + 2 monosynths + a big midi controller to control reaper on a raspberry pi (no screens or anything).
