Great vid as always Liam. I was talking to a friend about changes on my setup and I finally realized that I don’t have to fight with it. The pleasure is not on having the final product is about building setups and changing things, I buy and sell equipment just for the joy of learning it and then using it differently. However try an hybrid approach with loppy pro based on an iPad. You’ll have fun.
For me I apply the 80/20 principle. Whats the 20% that I use 80% of the time? The conscious mind can only processes 7 (+ 2 or - 2) things at anyone time, so efficiency is key. I am building next setup around traktor stems. The biggest thing I realised was duplicating process that do allot. For example my next setup is going to be based around using Trakor like a DAW (to some degree at least). I plan to use 2 Traktor X1's for DJ typical control and 2 midi fighters for stem control. And a K2 as a mini portable mixer routed to Ableton to emulate the Model 1's parametric Eq. (If the latency if good enough) This allows me to control 4 decks that break the 4 traktor tracks down further into 16 stems. With effects send, filters and individual stem volume control. The midi fighters stem control adds in 48 a extra pots across 2 layers on top of the all the other DJ controls. But its only 3 extra processes in addition to what I already do, for a insane level of control. I hope that makes sense, I imagine its hard to imagine without seeing. What I am saying is duplication can save brain power. Having 16 different instruments would just overload the conscious mind.
Some great tips here even for those of us with different setups. I'm using an MPC One with a Korg nanoKontrol and figuring out a workable setup is interesting. I particularly like your idea of a couple of "fill" channels.
Sounds great! I have a question. Do you put any fx on the tr8s master channel for your live? And also on your ableton master channel, do you put a limiter? I use ableton and tr8s, trying figure out the good way to achieve a professional sound in my liveset. Thank you! And great music !!!!
For sounds cards are there any that are smaller than the one u have ? As the sound card. seems bigger than the mixer. Model 1.4 looks cool but do u have to get a huge audio interface to work with ableton?
You always need a sound card if you‘re working with Ableton. The question is: how many channels in&out, what quality and what kind of device (an Elektron-box? Some high grade Apogee studio interface or just the headphone out of your laptop?)

😊
Cool setup, i like the drum fill idea on the tr8s. Looks like a blast to play and jam with
It’s the most fun set up so far!
sounds great!..I run a 96 with Traktor and Ableton and a Tr8s K2 and F1. So much fun great videos!
That seems like a beast of a set up.
Yeah it’s a sweet setup nice work flow.

I've never done the i pad thing! Def something to consider. Thanks for the suggestion! :-)

I like your logic. Thanks for this addition :-)

The fill channels work really well! I’m glad you’re making connections with your own set up though!
Spicy ... great sound bites coming from your latest set up ... doing the salsa as i listen .. ole... cheers !
Cheers to you!
Good insights on hardware vs. software, setup sounds great!
Thank you! And see ya soon 😊
hello, can someone link me the cables he's using to connect the tr-8s to the mixer? or similiar ones
They Candy Cords ! from MyVolts.
Thanks bruda 😁 already found some. But ill'be checking those out

I don’t even put a limiter in Ableton I just make sure that all of my levels are correct.
As for the tr 8s I usually put a LPF onto the master - can always use an LPF! 😊
@@LiamKillen thank you! 🙏
How does this connect to the interface? Using dsub out?
Exactly! 😊

yeah I use a Motu now for my sound card it's a lot smaller and it has enough outs for what I need.

Nice! would push2 be a viable replacement for the Model 1.4 / Launchpad ?
Not really because it’s not nearly as strong of a mixer as the 1.4
Thank you @@LiamKillen
I wonder what your take on the push is...?
I had a very surface lvl take in this video: ua-cam.com/video/1DucnZLnNIA/v-deo.html
still haven't spent some real time with it.
sounds there are some sync issues. the latency is quite big.
🤔
what about a link to those cables!
Check out my volts: myvolts.com/CandyCords
@@LiamKillen oh yea that's the good stuff, thanks!
Side note, I use that same trackball
It saved my wrist
Model 1.4 vs Xone:PX5 ?
I wish I had the xone to compare lol
I learned that I don't know shit. Haha... Great video!
Lol! 🍻
@@LiamKillen it's like taking your car to get fixed... They explain, you nod but have no idea what they're saying. But you wanna know.
I wish I could afford a model 1.4.
Def a great investment!
..blaaaaaahhhh 🙄
🤣
