As one of Bishop Stricklands parishioners, I can say I've received the most beautiful spiritual direction, amazing confessions, and beautiful community from Him. He has been a flame to our faith here, there is a reason there is a new couple or person every other Sunday mass. He remembers many of us by name no matter how few times we had met him. the young adult group in Tyler has over a hundred active members who get together to talk to priests, attend holy hour, chant choir, book clubs, etc. I'd be shocked if there was a better bishop out there. I am so happy to have been confirmed by him, given first communion, and had confession and direction with him. every protestant i knew was equally saddened by this, they all knew, even if not explicitly, that he was their bishop to, and they were so happy to have him. He led a ecumenical halloween event in the park and got something like 18 protestant churches to join....Imagine a bishop in this day and age, who both defends us latin-mass goers, AND walked with protestants for life, for human rights, against trafficking, against modernism. I'm not trying to be some cultist around a person. But I am going to hold until something comes out with evidence, that Bishop Strickland did exactly what God desired for him, I only pray God send us a Bishop who will lead similarly towards the light.

I moved from Maine to Texas. One of the big reasons I moved was Bishop Strickland. I was not alone - people from all of the USA were moving to those areas to be a part of a good faith community. Something he (but perhaps really the spirit working thru him) was incredibly successful at building. Its a massive shame to see the Vatican overlook ALL of that - and get wrapped around the wheel about politics.

Saint Padre, Pio, Saint Bernadine of Siena, and Servant of God Don Dolindo, - to mention just 3 - when disciplined and suspended by Holy Mother Church responded with humility and obedience and exhorted all those who loved them to do the same. "The pope summoned Saint Bernardine to Rome and put him through a trial. In the interim he was suspended. Saint Bernardine did not seek human help but rather he wrote to his friends, exhorting them to place their trust in God alone." Servant of God Don Dolindo (of the Surrender Novena), undergoing similar attacks as Saint Bernardine, replied, "I thanked God that I was in such good company as Saint Bernardine of Siena, and that at any rate God was giving me a great grace in humiliating me."

I am 77 years old, and having been raised as a Baptist, a group who worship a book more than the incarnate Word of God, I have spent years looking at the history of the Church trying to find the real deal. (I have two history degrees and three theological degrees, although I'm not sure that those bits of my history have helped.) Now, in my old age if not on my death bed, I am entering the Roman Catholic Church after years with the Old Catholics. It seems to be a horrible time to enter the Church, with so many squabbles going on. And, I should be honest and say that I have always found the choice of Francis as Pope to be a catastrophe. However, when I finger the St. Michael medal on my Rosary, I am reminded that there has been war in heaven, too. I am trying to maintain a long view. I mean, gosh, at least Francis is not the nephew of a Pope. So, I particularly appreciate your consideration of events quite encouraging, Brian. Francis, too, will pass.

I met Bishop Strickland today at the rosary rally outside of USCCB conference. All is well. The pope’s action only serves to deepen our faith and increase our commitment to fight for our Holy Mother Church. Yes, I’m deeply saddened but we are living in Salvation History. We should get excited about living during this time. The liturgical wars really don’t matter. What matters is defending the truth of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We pray for the Holy Spirit to convict, guide and sanctify the pope, hierarchy in Rome and all bishops, priests and us the faithful and laity. Let us pray for wisdom, holiness and piety and that the Lord will foil every plan of the enemy and make the Church the light and salt of the world again and renew any lost saltiness. May God be with Bishop Strickland in his hour of trial and raise us all to pray for the Church. Thank you for your gracious & heartfelt video. I had the privilege of being at the pontifical TLM offered by Bishop Strickland early October at the Catholic Identity Conference in Pittsburgh. Even though he was somewhat out of his comfort zone, Bishop Strickland took painstaking care to offer the most beautiful, reverent Mass. He was also the surprise keynote speaker the night before, welcomed with a standing ovation by more than 700 Catholics. I was moved deeply by his humility, pointing to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus as his constant source of strength and hope, and his urgent message that we all - out of Christian love- pray fervently for Pope Francis. Truly a good shepherd and a devoted brother bishop to the pope- caring more for Francis’s soul than do those bishops who promote heresy and confusion, or who out of cowardice or fear for their ‘careers’ hesitate to gently yet firmly hold this pope accountable to defend the true faith. God bless Bishop Strickland and grant that we may follow his humble example.

Mr. Holdsworth, you ended your sermon with class and you have given me, as an instrument of Providence, needed Hope.
Now I confess my first reaction to his removal was anger. Of course, earlier that week I was livid, crying angry tears for the loss of my State of Ohio, yet the Catholic news really did not help matters.
Like a number of us, I frankly, too, believed things were settled out of court, so to speak, from June. Yet it appears the last farthing has to be paid.
And, in a sense, his excellency is one of farthings.
May Providence vindicate Bishop Joseph Strickland as he did Cardinal George Pell, St. Gabriel the Fool, St. Pio, St. Joan of Arc, St. Athanasius, and all those holy ones.

Part of the reason I advocate for an immutable, blockchain-backed compendium of Church teachings is because it's establishment would send a strong message to these judas traitors. An immutable record of Church teachings would help us separate the sheep from the goats in the clergy. The good shepards vs the hirelings. Any clergy not supportive or, or opposed to the creation an immutable record of Church Teachings should be immediately laicized and removed from leadership position in the Church because they would objectively be defining themselves as a heretic. Catholics need to understand, bergoglio does not believe in the deposit of Faith in any real sense. If he does not support or opposes the creation of an immutable record of Church teachings, then we objectively know where he stands.

Early in his speech, Strickland said that he had written an outline of what he intended to say, but that before his planned remarks, he wanted to read “a letter from a dear friend.”
“Would you now allow this one who has pushed aside the true Pope and has attempted to sit on a chair that is not his define what the Church is to be. (...) And yet this usurper of Peter’s chair has counted life as nought, for he has endangered souls by proclaiming that they are justified before God as they are, with no need of repentance. (...) Play nicely? While the devil leads souls to hell? Play nicely? While Francis proclaims the devil’s voice to be the voice of the Holy Spirit?"

Why do we have to be 100% on one side or the other?
Both Brian and Michael make very good points.
Bishop Strickland is someone who does his best in being a good and fathful bishop.
Bishop Strickland did both sign a document accusing the magisterium of heresy and promoted and endorsed a sedevacantist letter (even though he himself is not one).
I think Strickland would accept a charitable correction from the pope on these matters.
It is understandable the pope wants to remove someone who is accusing the magisterium of heresy.
It is also not okay to just remove a bishop like this, with no reason given to the public along with not removing many bishops that have done worse.
Can we not ackwnoledge both the good and the bad?
Can we not do the same with the pope?
I love both yours, Michaels and Brians content and I think you are all intelligent and doing your best, God bless.

Francis’ ‘Mess’ Making: Assessing the First Five Years
"Pope Francis famously called on young people in Rio de Janeiro to go out and “make a mess.” Those words in hindsight shed a significant light on the last five years in which a consistent stream of irregular off-the-cuff statements and actions have given the faithful confusing signals from the one person who is supposed to embody Church unity."
    This says it all!

  • @patriciaowens3479
    @patriciaowens3479 6 місяців тому

Michael Lofton has an interesting commentary on ALL this mess.
I just have to BELIEVE that God KNEW this day would BE, and that He's still in CHARGE, as He sees time in all one GLANCE, and He KNOWS what everyone is SUFFERING, and going Through. And I have to BELIEVE that He will bring GOOD out OF the chaos, light, out of the darkness, and reason Out of confusion, that we find now with our Holy Mother Church. I am a convert. I'm converted from the church of England and I love my Catholic faith dearly, and I shall never, never leave. I just have to trust that God KNOWS exactly what's Happening of course, and He's going to STRAIGHTEN it OUT and good will come out OF the bad whstever the bad is. So everybody hang on and be faithful, and prayerful and forgiving, and keep an open mind, full of mercy and kindness and consideration and sympathy and wanting to seek the Truth in the Power of the Holy Spirit within us, and KNOW that again God IS in CHARGE and He's GOT this . . . and He's got us.. I converted to the Catholic faith in 2005 and even with all the nonsense going on, I don't regret coming into the Church. I once read a quote from a saint along the lines of: "Just keep saying your prayers and don't get involved in all the comings and goings." And that's really what it's all about. The laity can't really do anything about what is going on so we just have to focus on growing in holiness, receiving the Eucharist and concentrating on our prayer life, offering up our sufferings, etc. and leave the rest in God's hands.

Unfortunately, Bishop Strickland signed a letter that censors a magisterial document (Apostolic letter Desiderio desideravi ) as heretical. It is heretical to call the Magisterium "heretical." Once he signed that letter, as long as he doesn't repudiate that action, he is in a state of material heresy. The arguments raised in his favor during this video are, again unfortunately, further reason to separate him from his teaching position, since the spread of his error is greatly enhanced by the efficacy of his apostolate.
More recently, Bishop Strickland has said other very compromising things about Pope Francis, insinuating that he has a hidden agenda to subvert the depositum fidei .
Would you question the president of a company who fires a subordinate who publicly accuses him of having a hidden agenda to bankrupt it?
It is super sad that it has to be a saintly bishop, who seems motivated by genuine love for Christ and who is very faithful to the teachings of the Church, the one who does not follow the admonition to not undermine the authority of the Pope and, consequently, the unity of the Church.
The failure of bishop Strickland is radical, in the sense that is at the very root of all the problems of humankind: the disobedience of Adam and Eve that brought about death and all the other evils, which required the example of extreme obedience of Christ to revert it, "obedience unto death and death upon a cross."
Union, submission and obedience to the successor of Peter are doubtlessly the most important, the most basic and without exception required qualities of any bishop in the Catholic Church.

Bishop Strickland went to far. I watched his entire video. Go check out Michael Lofton. And Michael predicted a while ago correctly that Bishop Strickland would be removed and after watching the entire video and if he stood by it yes he did go to far
And yes the Bishops in Germany absolutely 100% should be removed but you can’t justify bad behavior by pointing at other people who do bad behavior or in this case who are definitely running afoul of church teaching to the detriment of the faith to their flock
And yes I find it frustrating that Bishops Strickland was dealt with rather quickly as opposed to the Bishops in Germany. However there’s a difference with Strickland it’s just him with the Bishops in Germany we are talking about an entire country perhaps going into schism so it’s a MUCH bigger issue. I can only surmise the Pope is either not up to the challenge or being more circumspect in dealing with them over time to do everything to prevent a schism and to a) get them in line or b) at some point remove them.
That though doesn’t excuse Strickland who did go to far reading that letter and thus standing by that letter because he did nothing to distance himself from what was said

I wish I watched this before Michael Lofton’s response, but I figured he would respond. He has some good information on some of the uncanonical, borderline heretical ways (according to Roman Catholic teachings) in which Bishop Strickland has been acting, and Lofton has proven with good primary evidence that Strickland’s behavior deserves condemnation, whether or not Pope Francis is wrong. I think that means Brian you should reevaluate if in fact this is “unfair” or “unjust” or not. And if you still think so, as someone who is trying so hard to understand the doctrine of papal infallibility, I am very curious if you get a dialogue with Lofton to figure out if in fact Strickland does deserve to be deposed.

The letter that B. Strickland read and the one that Lofton read, are not the same. Lofton edited his version in a way that was dishonest and misleading.
The Bishop also read it without agreeing with its contents. The Bishop read it as an example of how today's laity are confused and we desperately need clarity. It was a plea to the Pope, not a condemnation.

Edit: Strickland said this on November 13th: "Pope Francis has the authority to remove me as bishop, and he’s chosen to do so. I have to respect that.” He's acknowledging that he is indeed the Pope and exercises legitimate authority. This contradicts claims that he thinks or said Pope Francis is an anti-pope (which I'm still waiting for a source on). Further, the letter in question never accuses Francis of being a heretic. It says that the natural reading of a passage in Desiderio desideravi suggests that faith is all that is required to receive the Eucharist - is condemned as heresy in the Council of Trent. It then cites Trent.

"a faithful son of the Church" - did any of the Saints, Martyrs, and other faithful sons and daughters of the Church speak as Strickland has about a pope?

Brian Holdsworthy, I have enjoyed and benefited from your posts so much over the last few years. After listening to your beautiful talk just now, my admiration, and feeling for you, have greatly increased. Thank you so much for your sincere, heartfelt, intelligent, level-headed reflection on the sacking of one of the best bishops in the Catholic Church. We must not leave the Church but rather pray and do penance for it and, when the really bad times come, resist.

We must know that the church turns on centuries not days. Whatever is happening to whomever at whatever time; let us pray that it will be the crucible that makes them a saint. May Bishop Strickland go down the path of Padre Pio and carry his cross well.

In March 2022 Bishop Daniel Fernandez from the Diocese of Arecibo, Puerto Rico, was also removed in the same way that Bishop Strickland was. Is so sad to see this happening in our Church, the good bishops that are working for the family, for the people and preserving the Church's teachings are being removed without taking consideration the opinion of the flock. In our diocese 30,000 signatures were gathered from people from many denominations in support of Bishop Daniel but no response from the Vatican, no reason was given for his removal and left thousands of families without being listened to, despite being in the middle of the "Sinodal Way". Thank you for shedding light to this and your recommendations.

Now that Catholics can sometimes experience a lack of traditional resources, I wonder if I might recommend some books of meditations that I have found helpful?
de Ponte, Meditations on the Mysteries of Our Faith. (There is a good reprint of this collection in the 'Christ the King Library' series.)
    N. Avancini, Life and Teaching of Our Lord Jesus Christ (Burns Oates, 1965)
Anon. Practical Meditations (Burns Oates, 1964)
Ludolph of Saxony, The Life of Jesus Christ, tr. Walsh (Liturgical Press)
    F. Fernandez, In Conversation with God (several vols for different parts of the year; Scepter, 2000. Many of these are on gospels for the Mass of the day under the new calendar. Don't be put off by the relatively recent date. The writer is a priest of Opus Dei and in my view thoroughly sound.)
I should be very glad to hear of any recommendations from other readers.

Welcome aboard! Just remember that bad clergy were always there, but so were saints. The pope is Christ's prime Minister, but Jesus is our king.

Dear Suzana, I too am petrified at what is happening but take heart.
It is the Lord's Church and it is His promise that will see us through. The late Pope Benedict had a message that we need to keep in our hearts and mind in these fearful times:
"I have felt like St. Peter with the Apostles in the boat on the Sea of Galilee:
      the Lord has given us many days of sunshine and gentle breeze, days in which the catch has been abundant;
then there have been times when the seas were rough and the wind against us, as in the whole history of the Church it has ever been-and the Lord seemed to sleep.
Nevertheless, I always knew that the Lord is in the barque, that the barque of the Church is not mine, not ours, but is His-and He shall not let her sink.
It is He, who steers her: to be sure He does so also through men of His choosing, for He desired that it be so. This was and is a certainty that nothing can tarnish.
For this reason my heart todays overflows with gratitude to God, for He has never let His Church, or me personally, lack His consolation, His light, His love."
Perhaps the Lord called you onto His ark because good hands are needed in this hour of need.

Indeed Brian this is a scourging. 400 years ago in Quito our lady came to mother Mariana and gave her the opportunity to suffer for the sins that are to take place in the 20th century That's us. In the study of this visitation I learned that this would be the time of purification. Mother Mary calls the faithful to pray praise ceaselessly that this purification will be short and successful pray the rosary and study the visitation of our Lady of Quito Ecuador better known as our Lady of Good success. I will be praying for the good bishops Strickland and for our Pope. Thank you for this video on the matter and as a side note I'm always impressed with your extreme knowledge and understanding of Catholic things. God bless you and keep you well my friend.
