Yeah it's funny that he calls this relaxing. I don't find this game relaxing at all. I mean it's super cool and unique, but it's also one of the most stimulating games I've ever played.
Mr Jeff Minter is without a doubt, The Master of Machine Code wizardry, whereby his video games over the span of forty or so years has earned him the echelon of video gaming ingenuity and overall unmatched imagination. Through motley visuals and bizarre animal references, his games are renowned for being comical as well as engaging to all age groups. His creations began on a humble eight bit computer back in the nineteen seventies where he taught himself programming utilizing the B.A.S.I.C programming language where he coded his initial games. Dissatisfied with the limitation of B.A.S.I.C's painfully slow execution and limited features, he soon migrated to machine language programming. Through the use of such programming, a computer's native means of directly addressing its storage registers, a program such as a typical arcade type game can execute at lightning speed whereby the numerous special onscreen effects appear to occur simultaneously, when in reality any computer can only execute an instruction at a time. This feature along with his unlimited imagination was the key to Minter's amazing launch to fame. In a sense, Jeff Minter is to machine code programming as what Nikola Tesla was to electrical energy implementation at the turn of last Century. Both men masters of their field.🤗
From lazer zone and grid runner, to attack and revenge of the mutant camels, to ancipital, sheep in space and iridis alpha - to this. Great stuff yet again. Minter is a legend, as is Mr Reznor. The two of which i never thought i'd find in one place :)
one of the best arcade-y games ever. been playing this to death the past few weeks.. got pretty high on the leaderboards, unbelievably. second highest score on YOLO mode baby!
Hey, look, it's Jeff Minter doing what he does best: Creating an excellent, memorable gameplay experience with his inimitable style. Who else could take an urban legend and turn it into such a masterwork, 3-D racing shmup? This is like the love-child of Williams Electronics' *Blaster* and Atari's *S.T.U.N. Runner* , with a heapin' helping of LSD. Vintage Minter, in the modern day!
Very interesting that Jeff describes this game as a relaxing affair. Maybe it's because I haven't tried it in VR yet, but it just feels very intense to me...
Thanks Jeff, love it! Please would you do a music visualizer / roller coaster for your next VR project? Scan the music track then ups and downs timed to the song!
I don't know if you guys ever played Tempest or Defender on the Atari Jaguar, but the games are equally trippy with the same sound effects and they're made by the same people.
Jeff Minter (Llamasoft) is a true god in the pantheon of video games. He's being doing his wonderful thing for many years. I'm overjoyed to discover that he's still hard at work sharing his love of shmups, video-game nostalgia, great music, and psychedelic visuals with the rest of the world.
but the one based in the 1981 has a secret code that really messes you up. I talk for experience. This one looks cool but if it doesnt have the menu like the other it doesnt make it to me.
Minter's always tended more towards the whimsical than the philosophical. For me, one of the things that makes REZ a favorite is that it has an actual story, of sorts, and makes the player a key element in resolving that story. Polybius seems entirely focused on the sheer fun of doing well in its weird psychedelic racing shmup framework, but this is not at all alien to anyone who's followed Jeff Minter for very long. This isn't so much deep as it is quirky, lighthearted, and action-packed fun, with bonus puns of the hoofed sorts.
Dos thisgame have a lethal sleep secret menu? the original has one in which I enabled everything and after a month of playing I started having nightmares, halluciantions and sleep paralysis. It really mess up with your brain. Does this one has the same? the original is not a joke
Is this REALLY based on the old arcade, Polybius? If so, awesome! I'm starting to think if Polybius was a Creepypasta entity, he be a space bull like on the title. ^^
It includes the original 'non existent' game as an Easter Egg. If you find it the government will send men in black around to your house who will take you and your PS4 away in a back of an unmarked white van.
You can thank Nine Inch Nails for bringing me to your video.
This is way faster than my brain can compute information

Are you LESS THAN?
You nailed it.
So what are you waiting for...
Did it fix what was wrong with you?
FBI will approve of this!

They need to release this on Steam. It would be an IMMEDIATE buy from me!
F-Zero + Gradius + LSD = Polybius
So, I'm not wrong in considering this to be a psychedelic racing shmup? Thank you!

The videos can't really show how good this game is in VR.
Exactly. Those who can't play this in VR are missing out on a lot.

one awesome trip Jeff, well done to the maximum!
Jeff Minter!
Congrats to you and Giles for producing another excellent goggly adventure!
But Plasma Tube level can insert itself in some other kind of tube, it's so difficult D:

It is very intense to me
"The emergency exits are the four doors on the left side of the aircraft... and the four doors on the right side of the aircraft."
And here I was thinking I was doing a reasonable job of it. Guess I'll have to keep trying.
DON’T LOOK AT THE GAME
Once you see it... _IT'S IN YOU _*_FOREVER..._*
Thanks Jeff, love it! Please would you do a music visualizer / roller coaster for your next VR project? Scan the music track then ups and downs timed to the song!
It's like the sequel to Williams' Blaster that never existed. Until now, I mean.
It's like Blaster had a love-child with S.T.U.N. Runner after both had a bodacious hit of acid.
Just discovered this game - absolutely amazing!
Space Giraffe Jeff is back. Bless you Sir.
got this today is so amazign on the psvr only played a bit before work cant wait to play tommorow. got to statge 5
My excitement cannot be caged. I need this game in my lifeblood.
I'd definitely play this game. Reminds me a lot of Tempest; one of my all-time favs.
Uh i was watching a video about a rumored arcade game and UA-cam classified it as gaming and i clicked the game and now I’m finding this game
Looks like a great game to play :) Love the Amiga BoingBall reference :)
Would love to play this on PC
wazthatme Stegall they banned it
"Jeff Minter talks us through the first 7 levels of Llamasoft's latest game, Polybius, out now on PS4 and PSVR."
Trent Reznor likes cool video games
Anybody know how I skip those transitions that happen at the end of every level? (I use steam btw)
So glad this game is finally out! Thanks so much!
Fucking fantastic !!!! Can't wait for this !!
Being playing this today. No idea what's really going on, lol, but it is kinda fine just watching all the stuff whizzing by.
I don't know if you guys ever played Tempest or Defender on the Atari Jaguar, but the games are equally trippy with the same sound effects and they're made by the same people.

Most epileptic game ever since the original Polybius.
Brilliant game. So good in VR. Best arcade shooter in a long while.
Any game programmer can make a more psychodelic game than ever existed in 1981
but the one based in the 1981 has a secret code that really messes you up. I talk for experience. This one looks cool but if it doesnt have the menu like the other it doesnt make it to me.
Horsesome! Also I'm pretty sure I saw a zarjaz as well.
for me this doesn't beat REZ or child of eden .. but i like the mix of speed and scoring.

So zen. One of the reasons I bought a PSVR. Can't wait to own this game.
Only question: why cant we have this as a quest native game?
Played this at an expo insane shit bro loved every second
At least it doesn't hurt my eyes
Dos thisgame have a lethal sleep secret menu? the original has one in which I enabled everything and after a month of playing I started having nightmares, halluciantions and sleep paralysis. It really mess up with your brain. Does this one has the same? the original is not a joke
Why did SCEA deprive us of being able to preorder this game and get a PSN preorder discount?
This is a great game. Support the man.
I'll be buying this bad boy.
it kinda reminds me of nitrous oxide off the first PlayStation. kept hoping Crystal Method would start playing.
I got this yesterday, so glad too, it's the most spectacular yet. Sort your shit out Sony, get Atari to release TxK for the PS4!!
With PSVR Support! :)
I really hope you plan on bringing this to the likes of Oculus Rift and Vive at some point too. :-)
Tbh, I like this version better than the others.
If anyone with epilepsy plays this they're going to die.
Amiga boing balls!
this game was a mtyh that costed sickness and mind control or something like taht
This one is just a tribute to the myth about the Polybius arcade machine in the early 80s. Look up Ahoy's video about it
I'm getting 3D world runner vibes
This strangely reminds of Velocibox...
Woah woah woah woah wait, polybius is now a game for the PS4/psvr and not even remotely close to the original legend surrounding it?
This looks wonderful! Must check this out...
Is this REALLY based on the old arcade, Polybius? If so, awesome! I'm starting to think if Polybius was a Creepypasta entity, he be a space bull like on the title. ^^
Do you need PSVR for this game, or can you play normally?
reminds me of skyways
Holy fuck - my eyes!
i could only survive 56 seconds -_-
Sonic the POLYhog
I fuckin love this game. 😍
SOLD
It's nowhere near the original, but it sure is better for your mental health.
...why do I suddenly want to eat Grass and say moo? 🐮🐄
100
is this a remake of the non existent game?
It includes the original 'non existent' game as an Easter Egg. If you find it the government will send men in black around to your house who will take you and your PS4 away in a back of an unmarked white van.
Has anyone got a seizure by playing this game yet?
they banned it
yikes
