This is great!!!! I am a retired mechanic of over 40 years. Work at Toyota & Jeep dealerships. Had a shit load of chasing rattle in new cars & SUV! Lost my ass on warranty work! Most customers were useless in telling you about the rattle! I knew where my rattle was just wanted to know what people did to fix it. Thanx nice work. The rattle in the door was your striker You loosen the screws and that striker moves a bit. But be careful you can mess up the closing of the door.
Its a very interesting that every driver have this issue. Whether we are driving Mercedes, Bmw, Subaru etc. that rattle sound is there annoying you. Btw, you have a beautiful car.
Dude my exhaust pipe has been rattling for MONTHS it drives me nuts! Your microfiber towel solution totally silenced it. Stuffed it up and I'm a happy driver now
Hello, I just found your channel now. I had a new car and this clicking sound on the door drove me insane for weeks. The guys in the workshop couldn't find anything. But the click stayed. I looked at the console at the seals. Nothing. Then I found your video. I didn't have a rubber hammer, but silicone spray. That helped. Thank you for pointing that out about the door. the click is gone.
No.1 solution helped me a lot! I left my car at one of subaru dealership to be inspected for 2 days but they couldn't figure out but this simply solved and I'm so satisfied with the result. Thank you! Thumbs up!
Omg this is a life saver. I took mine to the dealers and all they told me was they can't do anything and it's normal. I literally go crazy bc I have a rattling noise by the seat belt and up front.. and I literally want to flip the car hearing it.
Same here with my 2019 VW Jetta and the rear trunk deck lid is so obnoxious its making regret getting a sub installed. I already paid for dinomat and it didn't fix it? I'll try the cloth and see if that helps!
holy shit balls, the 2nd fix is what has been driving me INSANE for months!! I thought it was the door panel (took it off a bunch to try and fix but never worked) I'm going to give this a try as soon as I get home. Which way did you hit it? Towards the inside or towards the outside of the car??
Mike Turner I would assume that you hit it towards the panel that it's fastened to to snug it back up otherwise your probably going to chip the b pillar paint and or bend the piece
God bless your soul for the microfiber towel trick. I used shirt I cut in half and it works perfect. I have two kicker compr’s in the trunk and it rattled so bad until now. Thank you bro
I had a car grill rattle in a high mileage car, I tried tightening the securing nuts, no luck, finally a hardware store employee suggested buying some flat rubber washers, I noted one end of the grill had silicone deadening the rattle on that end, the other end was loose, I didn't want to silicone on the looser side in case I had to remove the grill to replace it, so I stuck some 1" to 2" flat rubber washers in the areas where the grill seem loosest and noisiest and so far so good, it has quieted down.
I had rattling in the back which towel didn’t fix. Actually, what was rattling was the remote access mount underneath the back panel. It’s a black cube box attached to the metal underneath the plastic panel. I secured it with some window sealer strips and also put some window sealer all around under the back panel. No rattling anymore.
Well, that is three of my top rattles located. I knew about the speaker grill, but I was sure the door rattle was due to the inner door panel, which the dealer replaced. Now I will get some velco, a rubber mallet and a micro fiber towel. Hammer time...
Thanks for your informations. I’ve two rattled in my car. First one is center consul/arm rest. Second one is rear deck panel rattled on certain RMP. I’ll try the towel and let you know.
Amazing! I thought I had located it to my window trim, then it moved to b pillar, then driver rear door. After taking everything apart I was replicating the sound and it stopped for a second, but only with my door being open. Found your video after trying to put a cushion on the backplate that the striker attaches to (which did nothing). Wish I had tried the rubber mallet sooner. Cracking things open usually leads to new rattles...
My b pillar rattles or squeks when I enter my driveway or if the car flexes. I think its the rubber seals being rubbed together when the car is flexing. Also my dashboard rattles alot. Dealer has no fix damn
In my last car, for the trunk, those two red thin bars that go across the bottom side of the trunk, those would bang together. I put something to dampen between them then used a zip tie to tie it together. Good luck.
I had a rattle in latch of my armrest extension. Drove me nuts. I fixed it by wrapping a small piece of thin flexible foam on the slide so it wouldn't move side to side. Secured it with a cable tie, no noises now. I have a rattle coming from somewhere on my moon roof that comes and goes. Still trying to find exactly where it's coming from. When I hear it, it drives me crazy. And no one else seems to hear it except for me.
Still having a hard time finding exactly where it is. It doesn't always happen, but when it does it's hard to pinpoint it and drive at the same time. Resting my hand on it around the area does nothing. And it's very faint.
Bro this was a really good informative video. Loved it man. Big thumbs up. I have a rattle of my own I fixed like a few days ago that I will make a video on on my channel to better explain what happened. But awesome video man. Keep it up.
Awesome super easy fixes. I'm curious to see if they were able to fix at least these super easy ones with the 2018. Since they focused on sound deadening for 2018. Thanks for the tips!

Nice vid. I have the dash rattle too I tried electrical tape but I guess its not enough. I'll take a shot at it again this weekend. I also have button (windows, lock windows, etc.) rattles on my front doors which I need to take to Subaru to fix.
Hey John Nguyen! Awesome video. I'm having issues with a Legacy '15. Have you heard anything about a rattle in the passenger side door near the hinge? Sounds like the plastic is rattling against the metal.
I just bought a 2015 Nissan Sentra and there is a rattle that sounds like inside the door, close to the side mirror on the driver side. And it does it when wind hits it just right. It sounds like when you blow on something and it spins around with a little rattle. Can't find it to save my life. I'm going to try the trunk trick you did too!
We bought a 2018 Forester XT. In only a couple months these rattles started occurring. Not what I expect from a 30k+ vehicle. We'll be selling it very soon. Been to the dealership a few times and they won't fix it bc it never happens when we bring it in.
John: Hate to say it but it doesn't matter what you buy, Suburu/Toyota/Honda/Ford/etc... Mfrs are making cars cheaper and cheaper, especially the interior plastic trim, they all rattle and squeak soon after purchase. Watch all the YT videos on fixing interior noises... ton's of great tips... if you really want to stop the noise, this is the only solution.
I have the same dealer excuse on my 2020 Forester. If I can fix my dash squeak, I'm going back and getting my $67.00 frivolous payment for nothing. They too said it didn't happen when they had it. Did you get yours fixed?
The rattle that I hate the most is actually the hump section right above the speedometer. Can't figure out what it is, and very complicated to remove the entire top section. Any ideas anybody?
You don't have to live with it! I have the rattle in my Instrument cluster too and was able to fix it, very simple. For me the instrument cluster/gauge housing was causing the creaking sound. 1.Just remove the plastic bezel around the instrument panel by removing the screws on the inner top area. (2 screws) 2.After, slowly pull the bezel towards you. (held by a few clips) 3.The instrument panel has a gap around it, I just put window/ac foam around it.( the panel is connected to the dash by 4 screws,I also tightened them) Hope this helps -cleanwater
It my Honda Accord it sounds like there’s a rock stuck in the driver side air bag above the window, any fixes ? Only hear it above like 45 mph and it drives me nuts
i had a rattle in the door, specifically in the windows switches. The solution its to put felt tape between the bezel of the switches and the part that receive the bezel, always talking about arrmrest area of the door. To ge off the windows switch bezel, you have to remove the door panel, then there´s 2 push clips retaining the bezel. The small gap between the bezel and the door panel make the rattle. Its hard to explain, but there are the parts you have to put felt tape under it. thumbs.ebaystatic.com/images/g/y6YAAOSw4A5YudW6/s-l225.jpg

Hi John, thank you for this video. I own a 2016 Liberty which has similar rattles. I really am questioning if Subaru is a worthwhile brand. How can a car be released from the factory with an OK pass rating from quality control if all these issues have been noted by customers. I am pretty sure you were questioning your decision to purchase a Subaru. :(
David X yah my first and last time i buy subaru. Materials is poor . My steering wheel all worn out. 2015 car and dont hold on.... Paid 46000$ really not worth the money
I putt roofing asphalt all over my van and then dynomate and skin it’s quiet also got some second skin I can do 100 and you can’t hear shit also added caulking around doors and windows and extra foam deadening material panels
my passenger side door rattles like crazy. went to the dealer 3 times to get it fixed and it comes back a week later. anyone have this problem and have a permanent fix? apparently it's a clip that keeps getting loose so they used some felt tape to tighten the clip but that fix isn't permanent.
Check out this link from a 16 STI owner. This guy made a really cool tutorial to fix and I am going to follow the directions this weekend. imgur.com/a/uwWKe
If you're in the LA area and can fix it I can pay $200 cash...if you can fix it. I've already been to over 15 places mechanic, stereo, body shop. Most don't even want to look at. One guy drove on freeway, pressed down on dash, but still couldn't fix it. Only makes noise at freeway speeds.

Might try that striker thing. I've been hearing the clicky sound from my door after about 2 months of owning the car new so hopefully that fixes it.
let me know if it fixes it
Tried the rubber mallet then went for a quick drive. At first I thought it fixed it. And then it came back. FML lol
with the car parked, if you move it up and down do you here it? if not it might be the door switches
Nope it's solid. I removed the door panel completely and drove around a bit and I still notice it lol. It's irritating as heck.
Thank you! Going to try using the microfiber towel and make use of those Harbor Freight freebies!

I am pretty sure you were questioning your decision to purchase a Subaru. :(
i think most cars rattle over time but mine started to happen after a year.
Sucks but i learn to drown out the sound

my passenger side door rattles like crazy. went to the dealer 3 times to get it fixed and it comes back a week later. anyone have this problem and have a permanent fix? apparently it's a clip that keeps getting loose so they used some felt tape to tighten the clip but that fix isn't permanent.
i would fit a foam piece, felt tape, or that velcro you saw on that video.
Vishal Pal any luck? I'm on the same boat
Check out this link from a 16 STI owner. This guy made a really cool tutorial to fix and I am going to follow the directions this weekend. imgur.com/a/uwWKe

Blessings sir.... Have a Honda with trunk rattle
nice ride 💯
If you're in the LA area and can fix it I can pay $200 cash...if you can fix it. I've already been to over 15 places mechanic, stereo, body shop. Most don't even want to look at. One guy drove on freeway, pressed down on dash, but still couldn't fix it. Only makes noise at freeway speeds.
i'm no expert. It can be a pain to find the rattle.
