The city must survive was a piece of desperation and hope mixed with pure terror.. This shows the storm is still the same... but the music is muted... drowned out by the drums of progress. "The storm is here, but this time... we are bloody ready chaps"
Its been years since the last whiteout. The city has grown in ways you never thought possible, under your leadership new london is poised to conquer the frostland. You've just about convinced yourself that the old captain was a fool, what did he ever accomplish that you couldn't do better? In your youth, he made you work deep in fridged coal mines for just barely enough fuel to get by, made you live by the tens in shoddy and cramped houses and fed you thin soups that never seemed to chase away the hunger. Your city is thrice the size he ever allowed it to get, with a massive economy and more technology than he ever imagined. You would make a better captain! And the that siren blared, its eerie wail droning over the city like the aspect of death itself. Out of habit you pause, waiting for the captains instructions... then you curse. The captain is dead now, this is your responsibility. Your mind wanders to your youth, to the mines where you collected the lifeblood of the city, you remember dancing for joy and hugging your mother when the captain assigned the Automatons down there to keep the workers safe. You remember your home, how the captain and his engineers designed it to be as warm as possible, oh how cozey and safe it felt back then. You remember the piping hot meals the captain made sure everyone got each day, oh how it warmed your belly. You remember the whiteout years, you remember the man who had all the answers, how he carried the weight of so many lives in stride. You wonder if you'll ever truly fill those shoes. Then the gale hits, drowning out all other thoughts.
Only in this game could a whiteout have as much fanfare as it does. It is indeed an enemy of humanity, even if it has no conscience or purpose; why wouldn't it have its' own theme?
Piotr’s work for this series is legitimately remarkable. The City Must Not Fall is, for my money, one of the most impactful pieces of video game score ever written. The evocation that *this is it, if you do not give it everything you have down to your last breath, mankind’s story ends HERE* is breathtaking. The fact that Piotr’s managed to meet the same standard for the sequel is a testament to his talent.
The City Must *Survive*, not “The City Must Not Fall”. Although I wholly agree with everything you’ve said here. I’ve only been consuming this game’s content for maybe the betterment of two months and the OST alone has given me more satisfaction than any video game OST I’ve listened to in that time. It’s glorious. I’ve shuffled playlists of this game’s OST nigh-countless times and the order practically is meaningless, I still get the same feel of awe the first time I heard The City Must Survive. If any one reads this in the future, I also recommend listening to: - Anger (FP2 OST) - New Shipment (FP1:TLA OST) - The Edge Theme (FP1: TE) - The Darkest of Days (FP1: ANH) - Into The Storm (FP1: ANH) - Are We Alone? (FP1: ANH) - Main Theme (FP1: ANH) - The Great Old Enemy (FP2) And so many more. They’re each beautiful for different reasons.
No matter how many of them you've been through, no matter how many things you've prepared to withstand them. When the whiteout comes, it will certainly be another *"Ah shit here we go again"* moment once more.
There are no words that can descripe the emotions I went trough in the first Whiteout encounter. This ain't a game anymore, its a playable movie.
the feeling of sitting at the edge of your seat gritting your teeth watching a _city builder_
Fun fact: Frostpunk 2 has dynamic music. If you zoom out to the Frostland view while a whiteout is over the city, you'll just hear the strings.
first game had it as well! I'm glad that 11bit kept this, I still have some of the Frostland mixes in my playlist

but now the snow isn't the worst enemy. It's us.

I really like how this feels like the city must survive but larger scale
Its not the same without the sirens going off and the other warnings.
A perfect sequel to a perfect game.
When I heard it I almost got flashbacks of from first game when I was saying myself "THE CITY MUST SURVIVE"
Love that sound on 1:08
1:30 is the part you all came here for.
Mind ya business lol. Thank you sir
Shouldn’t it be 3:00
Absolutely. The great storm feels like a desperate fight, this own feels like a marching army ready to be victorious.
@@phantimon6175 Also, yes.
I love the marching sound
