When you first started getting lean and shredded, did you ever worry about looking to small if you got to say 160lbs or so? Apparently to get down to 15% I need to get down to there but not feeling too good about it! Want to still look like I lift!
You should "reveal your workout program and how much protein carbs and fat u eat a week or workouts that u suggest but something u wouldn't do your self mate keep up the good work very inspirational 👍
The idea of getting shredded for the wedding is hilarious to me! Like your wife wondering why you're investing so much in lighting for the wedding and you're getting a tan to show off your striations. Walking down the aisle in a sleeveless suit.
The leap going from lean to shredded is massive. What seems like a few easy pounds less is a completely different ball game for your body. The struggles are not worth it imo. Especially when you consider that, for girls, you're already maxed out when you're pretty lean with visable abs. You dont need to be holy shit shredded when everyone around you is a fat ass.
I find it very rare to hear among my friends they prefer a guy who's shredded over someone who's lean and that's just based on aesthetics. If you also take into consideration the work and consequences that go into it, let's just say you do it for yourself, maybe the boys. Same vice versa though, I'm well aware people prefer me with a bigger ass, tits, and no more than two abs showing at a given time, but sometimes I just want to, especially since I got quite a fat face, it's nice seeing cheekbones for a bit. It practically halts my gains at some point though.
You do it for yourself really... results are nice but when you train for performance everything else follows. train like a madman but detach yourself from the results, like ido said.
@@esmee6308 If we are talking about attraction, personally I think seeing a girl who is just focused on doing her thing, for herself, outweighs a couple of inches on the ass/tits etc. People just being on their own path is pretty attractive IMO. I think (hope) a lot of people probably see it that way. And your point about what girls typically find attractive in terms of 'lean vs shredded' is spot on - never met a girl who gave a shit if I was 10% bf versus 14%.
i love that you actually acknoledge that being that lean can be unhealthy or unsustainable. there's a problem in the fitness industry that pushes the narrative that 'fitness infuencers' maintain sub 10%bodyfat all the time and it just causes more pressure for the average joe to starve themselves
Some people really do just have extremely low set points genetically. I got a buddy who is gnarly shredded as f##$% that doesn't lift. Anomalies of course. But yea for most that isn't too healthy or sustainable
You don’t starve yourself unless you have no muscle no fat it’s starving , if you have fat it’s called keto until you hit 2% body fat then it’s starving okay
Most people can be 10% 24/7 genetically. It’s just that it’s harder to sustain because it requires a more strict high protein diet. And if not most people then at least a lot more than people think. 10% doesn’t look good though unless you have so much muscle that you still look full. I think that’s what people really want, most people can’t look like that though and if you’re a shorter guy it’s disproportionate to be huge after a point. Mike Thurston is a good example of someone who can pull off a 10% aesthetic look but he’s probably below that and arguably too much muscle for most people at his current physique
Yep!! I got myself down to around 5% body fat once in my life. I felt like crap, my energy levels were low and it was impossible to maintain if I wanted any kind of social life (beer, wings, pizza etc.) 10% to 15% is much better and a lot more sustainable (although still takes a lot of discipline and dedication). I just focus on health and let the body fat take care of itself.
I like the concept you're trying to fix here. Doing gym or a sport shouldn't be taken to a wild extreme. Having a good diet and exercise routine to reach a good body shape is always the best, keeping in mind that we have a life to live at the end of the day. It's all about having the right balance

The wisest guy out there. My main problem is consistency. I've been tracking since 01.01 and I was pretty well off for 1,5 months. Did all my workouts and daily walks, but my jobhunt is going shitty lately and we had a water leak in the flat above and our whole flat just smells like mould and wet paper all day and the whole ceiling in 2 rooms is just yellow and dripping and that shit is really gnawing on my mental health and mood and I tend to have these shitty days, where I can't get my ass out of the bed for the morning walk and then I'm all like "Well, the day started like shit, might as well totally ruin it then" and go on a chocolate and chips spree until I have like 2-3x the calories I'm supposed to have and that shit happens way too often lately. First it was once day of "fuck it" every 2-3 weeks and lately it's one day of eating and training well, every 2-3 days of "fuck it". Really hard to keep consistent for me somehow
No one puts better than Joey D and Will Tennyson IMO. I am one of those people who got their "visa to shred town" with sub 10% BF. I never felt so terrible- always tired, cold, sluggish, etc... Lmao. I once turned a girl down multiple times, she eventually *demanded* I tell her why. Well, I finally explained she was too chubby for my preference. Fast forward about 5 months or so and she showed up at my apartment door looking emaciated and starved. Turns out she went and did “coke” and lost what seemed like 40-50lbs if I had to guess. Then she said “am I skinny enough for you yet.” I actually did not know how to properly respond so I then explained that it’s not healthy and she needs to stop seeking validation and get some help and confidence in herself. She demanded I sleep with her and I explained it would not happen. She gets mad, hops in car pulls out crack pipe and drives off. Never saw her again I only hope she got help because Clearly her issues were deeper than just me rejecting her passes.

Here’s a new one for you, Joe. I’m getting lean for retirement. How’s that for an accountability goal? 12-15% will do. I’ve got about 6 more weeks but getting close. I’ve been at it for almost a year now. So stupid that I waited so long to do it. Should have done it years ago. Feels so much better and it feels great to have muscle. Well, I’m an example of it’s never too late. Looking forward to maintaining it for life. Might even do a lean bulk in retirement. Wouldn’t that be something?

I really wish I had followed key #2... For most average dudes first starting, getting lean is the quickest way to look better, but it's not the quickest way to look great. You've gotta build the muscle to actually show off when you're lean. Otherwise you end up twig mode and realizing that the only path forward is to lose the only aspect of your physique that stands out.

Absolutely love your choice of words, haha good video mate! Although i do think it is possible to stay lean year round if you make the right changes and keep the expectations at bay, minimum, whatever. At the end of the day, what really matters is how well you feel on the inside whilst beeing peeled in "shredville"
I started a diet as a new years resolution, and I'm just about 13% BF right now, so not even very lean and by far not shredded, and I'm already fucking cold all day. lol I used to run around barefoot, in shorts and a shirt around my house all day, regardless of the weather outside. Right now I'm fully clothed, heater is up, and I'm still not comfortably warm. :DD

Tbh if you are fat or more than 20% don't bulk ... I did it one time and I just end up super gross, and then I couldn't cut that much tbh. Now I came to gym again this year and I did straight cut, lost 15kg. I was 75kg for 180 cm now I am 61kg with around 11% BF which is pretty low, and I don't have much more muscle mass. But the fact that I can see my abs is crazy, also my face and shit worth it! It is much more rewarding than bulk straight away. If you are like me who was skinny-fat for a long time is a good rewarding just being lean. When I'll get to 10%, I will then lean bulk for sure. But think about what do you want for your first time at the gym is to be lean or have muscle?
I want to get lean for the first time in my life. I'm a big boned, broad shoulder guy, I gain weight by smelling food. While everybody I know has looked the same for 20 years, I can fluctuate 10 pounds in a month. Anyway, I have a goal of almost 80 pounds to lose, and I know everything by the books what to do. Track food and calories a bit, exercise, don't eat junk. The problem at this weight is so much psychological. I have almost no motivation or self control. Maybe I fast half the day, then eat double on the next meal. Maybe I exercise good but then I've "earned" a treat. Maybe I diet well for 2 days but can't stand the small bit of hunger and loose it. Stress makes me loose control. Tiredness makes me eat a "pick me up". With this much weight to loose, and a very busy life and kids and running a business, my self control over food always takes the dive. And then there are the excuses. Can't exercise toward evening, it keeps me up. Can't in the morning, makes me late to work. Don't want to cause I'll get stinky and can't shower. Don't have time, can't leave the house (kids), cold outside. Can't eat right, no time to cook, need something fast, haven't gone proper grocery shopping. No time to prep meals, after all I eat with family, not my own person set of diet food. Wife begging to eat out cause she had a hard day. She was going to cook but later decided on something "fast". Had covid twice, have had bronchitis, have exercise induced asthma, low endurance. The excuses, laziness, lack of self control, low motivation, tiredness, low energy, family craziness, stress; that's what hurts, not just that I don't have enough shoulder exercises or don't know how to go outside and jog or use an app to track calories. It's in the mind, and it's hard to break out. Shout out to anyone who knows the struggle! The struggle is real!
This one goes out to all the people who are aiming to exceed badminton lean this summer. Luv u guys xx

and keep the expectations at bay, minimum, whatever.
At the end of the day, what really matters is how well you feel on the inside whilst beeing peeled in "shredville"
As always. Spot on no BS. Straight up Joey D 💪💪👍
I love being Lean with abs it’s sustainable, and you feel great.
Don't mind me, just commenting to please the algorythm..
When I was shredded the worst thing was feeling cold 90% of the time
I never experienced that myself but have read about it as a potential side effect of being really lean.
I started a diet as a new years resolution, and I'm just about 13% BF right now, so not even very lean and by far not shredded, and I'm already fucking cold all day. lol
I used to run around barefoot, in shorts and a shirt around my house all day, regardless of the weather outside. Right now I'm fully clothed, heater is up, and I'm still not comfortably warm. :DD
Sign of hypothyroidism
take cold showers you won't feel the cold it's kinda mad
Nah u just feel cold when your skinny
Thanks again Joey D! What a guy
Joey D knows just what we want when April hits. It may be snowing outside in Manchester, Covid means no summer holidays but the boys still need sub 10%

What up Joe..... Thanks for the video 📹
Curls on point.... Being a curly haired individual myself it is a gift rather than a curse.... Curls bicep or hair it's all good
One week into my cut plan is to go from 17% to around 10-12
I’m at 25% going to 12% good luck
@@randyogak2373 Good luck!
Thanks for that insightful rope explanation, life changing mate
Like your style, mate - keep it real - tired of the BS everyone else is selling - we that do the work know the sacrifices that have to be made.
Watching Joe’s eyebrows is the best part😍
My suggestion is sprints and mainly fish based diet....low carbs, low fat....
Thank you for a perfect video for me right now, trying to get as lean as possible right now, so I can get the best body of my life when I turn 20. Anyways, Bless you Mate! 🙏
Funny and very informative as always, Joe! Nice one!
Great stuff as always
Nailed the analogy fella
Legit Content Dude, thanks!
Solid vid man, papa bless
I needed this Joey D, cheers.
Is it even worse if you are intentionally getting shredded for another person's wedding lol?
Unless its an ex’s wedding, then its encouraged.
@@patrickmaughanyt When the officiant asks if anyone objects, you stand up, rip off the suit and hit a front double bicep. Wait for applause, then maybe hit a nice technical side tricep.
12-15% for summer and 15-20% for winter seem perfect to me
Yeah I love bulking in winter when I alwasy feel cold af in autumn the i dtart bulking and I feel warm all the time in february
@@dominatorrex18 well i‘m still freezing with between 15-20 percent but i keep telling myself that with 12% id be totally fucked😂
20% is fat mate
@@LukasP143 No you're not fat if you are 20%
Good work man!
Joey. Hope you see this and are doing well. I'm so out of shape it's unbelievable man. I'm 5foot6 and nearly 18 stone. Where do I even fucking start? Big love.
In the nicest way possible , put the fork down and move more 👍
@@jordanlegard3764 I completely get where you're coming from and I'm not offended at all but I think it's such a basic answer. Why do you think I can't put the fork down and why do you think I don't move more? I was thinking of buying a treadmill but I don't want to spend a wedge for my enthusiasm to fade after a few weeks.
@@UchihaMangekyou1 I never said you can’t do anything did i mate ? If your out of shape you either need to eat less or exercise more it’s that simple , the hard part is putting your mind to it ,
@@UchihaMangekyou1 you don’t need to spend money neither maybe try some nice short walks outside ? Every little thing you do extra from what you do now will help a lot
Find something you enjoy walking, cycling or another sport work towards small goals
🤣 lmao at the Cutting for your wedding day part 😂 sodium and water depleted walking down the isle lmao
Id well believe some loopers have done it to 😂
Tbh if you are fat or more than 20% don't bulk ...
Hermano, eres mi héroe.
Ha! I was actually going up some stairs with the Laundry bin at this moment. 7:18
your dialoque is starting to grow on me. 5'6" from 203 down to 148 pehaps 24 bm after 18 months.
While explaining the pendulum ''Not 100% sure this even makes sense'' makes total sense to me buddy!
Just in time for my cut ✂️ this is the time I put the effort in come onnnnn!!
This guy is informative but also fucking hilarious
