    Thank you so much - I bought this game and was struggling through the rule book a bit (there's a lot of info!) Once I'd read the whole booklet it was super useful to see your tutorial and it could all be pieced together and finally make sense!
    So far I'm enjoying this game solo. :)

      @@manic2360 They seem to have great reviews. I remember asking the developers why there was no males, but they went silent. Maybe some jerks in the past pestered them about it and were rude, dunno. Thing is, when I played Hero Quest I thought it could use a female character and created a female Paladin with her own ability cards. I like a mix, otherwise it feels lopsided and weird. But I think I can over look it and give it a try.

      Is it though? In these fantasy worlds where people are magical or magic augments their strength/abilities, or where females of one race may be stronger then most other humanoid races males, etc.
      In these worlds it doesn't make sense for them to not full fill many of what some people would consider to be "male adventuring roles". In addition, even females from weaker fantasy races would be inspired to break home life when meeting powerful women from other races or upon hearing their tales and deeds.

      just give player a choice in character options. that's the real solution to the problem. representation primarily matters in curated experiences, and tabletop is not about a curated experience to begin with. it's about a player-adapted one. the gender of the characters is and should be a player choice matter.
      Game seems sound, though. I'm not a fan of the point but ultimately the game is enticing enough that I don't mind it too much.

    Sorry. I hated this game. I find the idea of flipping cards over needlessly to be a horrible mechanic. Let's take the "easy" dungeon in this game for example. You have to flip 5 cards over just to start. Then, you have to flip 2 more cards over to explore. On top of that, you have to flip another 2 cards over for your first encounter. You've just flipped over 9 cards before you've even started to play. And you have to do this every freaking time you go down a level.
    Not only that, the game balance is severely out of whack when it comes to the monsters. It makes no sense to be throwing 4th level creatures at players who are 1st level. When you design a dungeon, you don't throw a Beholder against your 1st level players. I find quite often, that I'll play the game and I will be face to face with 4 4th level creatures in the dungeon when I am just a lowly 1st level. Yeah. I'm going to have fun with that.
    I know that there is a campaign mode where your character gets stronger over time but it means losing countless games to get there. To me, that's not much fun.
    I showed the game to my gaming buddy and we played a couple of 2 player games and he agreed with me on all the points I made.

    • @maxxon99
      @maxxon99 6 років тому +4

      Orlor the point of the flipping mechanic is that you don't go through the same cards every level.
      If it didn't have that, every level would be basically the same cards in a different order.

    • @micahbeuhring3032
      @micahbeuhring3032 6 років тому

      I agree that flipping over cards to "burn time" is kinda pointless. Why not just say, "for dungeon level one have a deck of 20 cards, level two takes 25 cards," etc. Even if all the dungeons have the same number of cards you just tell them to either split the full deck into equal parts or reshuffle before each level and deal the cards needed for that level. If I get this game that is most likely what I'm going to do.

    • @Nikuhime385
      @Nikuhime385 6 років тому +3

      The flipping mechanic allows you to have variety in the dungeon. You have to flip 5 off the bat for the Dragon's Cave because it's forcing you to have less of a deck to go through each floor, which simultaneously put you in less peril but also gives you less opportunity to level up if you're not careful with how you spend your actions. If you want less encounters, then you can spend time to explore after each encounter and less time opening doors. If you want more opportunities to get loot, then you want to open as many doors as possible before you "explore" again.
      The game is a Roguelike, so random enemy elements are part of it. If you're level 1 and don't want to go up against that level 4 enemy you flipped over, then just flee. Your only consequence then is that you have one less door option later on until you finally fight them or descend.
      I played this game at a convention over the weekend and promptly bought it. I've played it three times so far (twice solo and once with a partner), and even though I think the rules could have been written a bit better, I've been having a blast with it and so did my friend. I'm sorry that it wasn't a good fit for you.

    • @Dprim29
      @Dprim29 5 років тому +4

      Tbf, it's an analogue version of a roguelike. One of the hallmarks of a roguelike is that sometimes, you are just outmatched and lose. Also, as the reviewer notes, part of the effect of burning time is that certain decisions may make it easier to complete an encounter, but reduces the size of the dungeon, which in turn reduces the total encounters and in turn reduces the resources you get, making the game more difficult in the long run. In this way, your decisions have actual consequences that affect later game states. Spend too much time to use your skills and defeat an encounter, and you might not end up with enough power to beat the boss. While YMMV with how much you like the gameplay, it's a pretty elegant way to simulate a roguelike dungeon crawl.
