    Thanks for this extremely helpful video! I bought this version yesterday because my LGS didn't have the original version, and it was great to see a visual playthrough rather than relying solely on instructions

    I feel like maybe it feels more difficult because you are focusing on leveling up rather than keeping items and skills. Getting to second level seems to be pretty important, but after you get that first bonus die having skills and extra regular dice really helps out.

    15:56 You say you have an option to discard a loot card with a skill and gain an extra potion. I can’t find that in the rules. As I read it, this can ONLY be done when the loot is a potion and not a skill.

      Also, the arrows on this particular peril card allow you to tuck the card only as an item or experience (because you decided to roll yellow dice). Had you rolled blue dice, you would have been entitled to take the card only as a skill or experience. Cheers.

    The game gets easier if you play it using the campaign mode. This way your character gets stronger after each game session. I only play the game like this because the feeling it gives me similar with a video game rpg.

      Yes... You basically have to because the more advanced dungeons are all but impossible to win without those extra perks. They really should point that out in the rule book.

    • @Summer_Tea

      @@XHuntinatorX They only appear that way at first. I can fairly often win on veteran difficulty outside of campaign on any dungeon. There's a couple bad match-ups but I was shocked how many misplays and higher level plays I was missing even after 50+ hours sunk into the game. There's a pretty ridiculous amount of hidden depth and probability counts you can do that you otherwise won't notice if you only play on standard or campaign mode.

      Yeah I agree, even in this video alone there are a number of things I've noticed Mike could've done to lose a little less damage here and there, or for example going into floor 2 with no items (which isn't a good idea considering the extra dice or two needed from the dungeon card). It most likely would've been better to encounter another card or two to get a few more dice to roll. There's a lot of small things you can do to make the game easier. I for one haven't beat a difficulty 3 dungeon on Veteran yet, but I have just about eeked out a difficulty 2 veteran win on the yeti with no campaign perks, and I am pretty sure one day I'll be skilled enough for difficulty 3.

    25:34 why only 2 blue dice and a black? I was under the impression you rolled always your skill amount of dice no matter what.
    29:55 didn't you have any potions to help you before the explore roll?

    Love the original.
    Is the player able to get rid of three lives penalty at the end of each round ? By this I mean, drink a potion and refresh and not just one life as you did in your great presentation.
    It seems terribly difficult ! Poison and more poison plus lives, one's !
    I ordered the game but the Rules refer to the Yeti (,certainly clarified a few rules in order to defeat him) but no mention of getting rid of three life penalties at the beginning of a new round.
    Many thanks.
    Kindest regards from GB.

    Sorry for noting, but you're playing wrong on 15:27.... You can't choose how loot that card: the arrow on the left of the yellow rectangle means that this card can be used only as an item.....

    • @stefanoghellere6912
      @stefanoghellere6912 6 років тому

      Even on 25:30..... You have to spend 2 more cards to do that challenge...

      Technically you're right as, when he describes his options, he ignores the arrows and considers doing things with it he can't... but ultimately, he accidentally DID use it right in that you CAN use the card as XP instead of the one option of item or skill it should have been depending on which challenge he took. (pg 16, green box, of the rules).
      (Sorry for the years late comment -- just now getting into the game and searched for vids LOL)

    You get potion tokens when identifying potions, but I cannot find where rules say you get potion tokens by discarding cards.

    • @jesusperez-os8nd
      @jesusperez-os8nd Рік тому

      From game FAQ: How do I get potions?
      A: You get one potion token to start the game. You gain one potion token each time you
      level up. If you identify a potion as loot, tucking it under the Turn Reference Card, you
      gain one potion token. The “Prepared” talent gives you one extra token to start the game

    • @JorgePradoCasanovas
      @JorgePradoCasanovas 9 місяців тому

      Is not so clear to me how it is explained but I understand that you identify a potion when the bottom part of the encounter card is a portion. That's why you can tuck it. Discarding encounter cards for options doesn't seem to fit with the rules as they're written

    Ironically, the Level 1 Dragon was extremely hard to beat in the original game, too. The rest were far easier.

    I have been playing DoD:FoS for the last two days after thinking the rules were dufficult. Not so. The rules differ very little from the original.
    Have to say that the enemies are more difficult and the bosses are ruthless compared to DoD1.
    Poison doesn't really affect the player muçh most of the time.
    As for the heroes, they have to add very little so: if you have not bought either and want the game I say but the second ie.FofS only because of longevity and replayabilty.
    Have one more boss to beat and then go to another game.
    Regards from the UK.

    for the noobs>>> BUT you can TRADE 2 matches of ANY COLOR! for a Black!
    it might saved some pain. TY for the video

  • @JayComedyDirector

    I feel like there is no sense of accomplishment... Your damage is based on luck.
    Black die replacement is based on luck and quick math.
    Item choice placement is the only "true" decision you make. But you end up using them because of your LUCK with die anyways.
    Love the pool of monster and the equipment/spell system, such a good idea for a card game; keeping a small footprint.
    But the entire game is based on luck - i dont feel any reward winning.
    Subjective opinion :
    Deck building abilities for your heroes. (damage still represented by die, but die isn't rolled, just used as a marker)
    How to build the ability ?, instead of equipping the ability on your hero you add it to a separated deck. Else, keep it attached as an item or experience.
    Draw multiple of them every dungeon and play them carefully depending of the type of monster, damage needed, negative effect etc...
    Some abilities are on time use, so use them carefully - some will do you arm in exchange of great power. Therefore you have to THINK and be strategic with your actions.
    Add a "Modifier" deck for the enemy and ourself to add that "random ness" of the AI (like +0 +1 +2 -1 -2) and you have a very very similar game play.
    Not based on luck, but on deck building and ability path that have synergie with your hero.
    Thoughts ?

      Jay Comedy Director ... I agree with your points. Going in you just have to accept that it is a luck based game.
