Top 10 Denim Trends for 2023!
Jeans are notoriously hard to shop for BUT when you find the perfect pair it's SO satisfying. I don't know what I'd do with my favourite jeans. They truly are a wardrobe staple for me and I know I would really struggle to put together outfits if I didn't own a few pairs of fab jeans. So today I wanted to share how to wear the top 10 denim trends for 2023 and also look at how to wear them for different body types and shapes. As I always say if you love something and it makes you feel great when you wear it then don't worry about the trends. Fashion trends are really just a guide to give you an idea of what you can expect to see in the stores. They are not all going to work for you and that is absolutely okay. I think it's especially important to disregard fashion trends when it comes to buying denim jeans. The key is to find a pair that suit your style, your body type and your budget and hopefully you will find a pair to love in this episode. I often suggest the best thing you can do when it comes to finding a perfect pair is to try, try, try as many pairs as possible. It's incredible how different each brand looks and fits and different styles also look SO different on different body types. So if you have a little spare time this holiday season then head to your local store and try on as many pairs as possible. If you're lucky you'll find a fab pair and sometimes it may just take a little longer but you will find something to love if you are patient and will to try on as many pairs as it takes. Trust me you will find it SO much easier to create great winter outfits if you have at least one pair of go-to jeans to love.

Think I've worn most of these denim styles in my 61 years including the multiple waistband (except it was two pair for warmth while snow skiing), distressed (naturally distressed from catching my pants on farm equipment and the rare bleach accident), skirts (lots in the 70s), double-denim (my entire high school years with hand embroidered accents), and cargo (white twill painters pants).
That's what happens when we get to a certain age, we see all the trends come back

I'm 73 and I rock some of these jeans I love to look stylish
In the past two years I’ve donated 75 pairs of jeans one time, 35 another time and the last time 32. In the shelf I have 17 pair and still have a large tote full still to go through. I’ve worn the same size since I was 15, I’ve owned every color, style and various brands. I’ll never give up my jeans, I have denim shirts and jackets, it’s the easiest fabric to wear, dress up or just wear with a simple white tee shirt. I only donated the jeans because I realized I will never live long enough to wear them all out, someone else needs them much more than I do. My favorite kind is bootcut or small bootcut with slim legs and medium and high waisted. Love your jeans and they’ll love you back!
well...I'm 57 and absolutely love distressed jeans. Not too crazy ripped, but i think it makes my outfit look less 'stiff' and formal for when i need it.
I agree, especially when you pair it with a really nice top. I like pairing mine with, perhaps, a cashmere sweater or a nice blouse or knit top. Then, in the winter you can top it off with a long coat! It's kind of like mixing a bit of higher priced with lower priced items. You're not actually doing this, but you get the same feel. Btw, I am in my 70s!

Distressed denim is another one of my favs! Love pairing distressed denim whether tops or bottoms with a perfect red pout, a Chanel(esque) blazer or Dior crossbody, with silks, satins (tops, pants, slip dresses), chunky footwear or sleek pointy toe pumps or boots and jewelry vintage pieces. Love the juxtaposition❤️

I remember being devastated in the 80’s when my Levi 501’s ripped at the knee because I had worn them so much, my how things have changed LOL.
I still wear skinny jeans with my thigh high boots because they tuck into the boot well. I also style them as a “ legging” when I need that silhouette

I’ve managed to curate different cuts of jeans that i mix and match. Wide leg, boot cut, flare,skinnys, cropped. I only wear skinny jeans with my tall boots i feel it gives it more of a put together looke. I dont lean one extreme to the other when it comes to style. I like a good balance of classics with a twist of trend with items I already have. Definitely love the cargos, i love the casual vibe and comfort it gives
In the USA, "chambray" is what we call that softer lightweight denim-look fabric!

If you live in a more rural setting....distressed jeans just feel right.
Rock n roll! Cowboy. Bad boy. Etc. dipping into another life through fashion; whilst paying $280 for what cost me, A country kid, Hours of hard physical labor in my Levi’s and then patching them and keeping them going. I think people show interest in others’ experiences by trying out their daily duds. It’s a sort of cultural exchange. I was happy when this trend happened when I was young cuz then I didn’t look like a poor kid. Weird how much fitting in matters when you’re young. I would never wear ripped denim now, because of my personal experience with it. But I think it’s paying homage to a hardworking or rocker look. My bias here is that I was raised in a farming community in the American West. I don’t wear the trend since I wore the real thing but imitation is flattery and I think It’s fun to try out looks from someone else’s experiences…. Maybe too philosophical for ripped jeans 😂

They look well worn and they have character. I'm not a huge fan myself but really like some of the more subtle distressings.
I used to be completely against them. Then I bought them and was into them-felt like a rebel! Now I’m sick of them especially in this cold weather.

I love my wide leg jeans, and I also own a pair of barrel jeans and a knee length jean skirt. I never liked the skinny jeans, funny considering I have very slim legs and could wear them well, but they don't give me the comfort and "dress up" (elevated?) look of the wide leg style. I'm not sure I like the other styles but I would like to look into the very thin "jean" fabric for warmer weather.

My favourite jeans have a seam right down the centre front of the legs. I started with a pair of Stella mccartney in a sale, they are in a fantastic denim, very elegant. Then from Hush, slim jeans in grey and in white, much softer
I don't mind a little bit of distressing. I mostly wear straight leg or boot cut denim and always have. I also am happy to see denim skirts are back in style. And chambray shirts and denim jackets are never out of style

Merry Christmas 🎄 I think the Agolde style jeans are a fabulous new way to wear denim. I love raw edge jeans and often cut jeans that are too long and let them “raw edge” at the bottom themselves (I’m a shortie) but will leave the all-over distressed jeans to my daughters to enjoy 😂

Love the tip about elasticated waist for apple shapes. All these companies coming out with “curvy” fits which is actually just a jean cut for hourglass/pear shapes. When will a jean compSny actually cut a pair specifically for apples, or with about 5-6” difference between waist and hip as opposed to 10-22”. I sure hope I live long enough to see it. I dream of jeans that will fit snugly around my hips and still button comfortably and be able to be used for a dinner out. Dare to dream!

So many fashion ideas in this video especially with the models (yourself included). I'm petite but I'm able to pull off barrel cut jeans, but I mostly wear bootleg, skinny and (short) flares. I love your take on double denim, it's a classy look. I have never found the right denim shirt yet. I was in Phoenix recently and the young people are into ripped, super torn (even big holes) denim, Actually in some way it looks interesting and different. I also would like a midi denim skirt perhaps with a slit on the side. I'd like to try the double waist band sometime if it's still around. I hope you and your family enjoyed the holidays in our neck of the woods!.

Skinny pants are coming back for 2023. Not sure about the jeans, but I have thin legs so they are about all that fits me. Many slim jeans are too baggy on me.
The soft denim contains viscose. It’s wonderful in denim blouses.

Hi Leonie, hope you and your family had a merry Christmas. I am into the crisscross waist style because I thrift most of my denim and trousers so they can be on the bigger size at the waist, and I found where there are rivet buttons pins on Amazon where you can add them to your jeans to give this asymmetrical look at the waist. I do like the distress denim but will not wear anything that rip straight thru so much that could give me a chill, so will stick to unfinished hems and worn edges looks for winter. You know this girl like her some maxi skirts, hope you find a great skirt. Don't forget you can still thrift them but now you got competition because of the popularity. Now you mention double denim and I have the stuff for this look, I just need to stop playing around and put this outfit together so it ready for next time I'm heading out the door. The soft denim, are you talking about chambray fabric? I like those during the warmer months they are more breathable than denim. I still have and wear my skinny leg jeans because like you said they work for me because I like the riding boots over them or chunky booties and the focus is the top layer. They provide a little more warmth and durability than wearing legging. I so enjoy your videos that cover just on a specific garment piece options. I have a couple pairs of Banana Republic's barrel style cropped pants, not jeans. It's a very subtle, barrel look, but I love them. I didn't think I could wear this style as I am only 5 ft 1 in, 114 lb. But I do have longer legs and the cropped style looks good. I bought these very early this year for the spring/summer fall, when they were just starting to sell this look. I haven't looked for the jeans in this style, as I don't really need any more jeans right now!

Distressed ,holes and rips absolutely not. I found a fantastic pair of demin jeans and I stitched up the ripped areas, asymmetrical waist bands not for me. Denim on Denim yes it totally works, you can do light and dark Denim together which does not make it look like a uniform. How Leoni has put together her Denim outfit looks great!
Nice ideas. I will keep in mind to atleast try it on at a store next time. Only issue is they don't have all sizes in the store these days making me pass on some items

I found some cargo jeans I really like at Niemen Marcus, they are $328.00. I am 62 and don't know if they are appropriate for my age. I don't want to spend that much money on jeans that may be too young for me.
Anything at Neiman Marcus is too pricey. I bet you can find a less expensive pair somewhere else if you look around because unless you mean to keep them for many years to come, it won't be worth paying so much for them.
Don't mind the age factor. You can always tame the youthful look with classic sweaters, shirts and coats/jackets.

Many of them look great on me. I am 60 and I have been wearing them for over 30 years. I'm stocking up right now, while they are still in, for when they no longer are. I'll still be wearing them and be right out of step with the trends... 😉

SL, I wouldn’t worry about your age for being appropriate but I have never spent that amount on jeans in my life, nor would I. I’ll scout the resale shops for some. It’s fun, resourceful, & wise to be thrifty! Best to you!

What is the perfect pair of jeans for my rectangle body shape? I think I do best in mid rise bc I'm short waisted? My thighs are kinda thicker, I have to look for a loose thigh? And then either straight or flare/bootcut?
Straight or flare, mid-rise. I love the way flare jeans look on a rectangle frame.

I bought some great denim skirts, but the slits are really high in front and not appropriate for my age. Is there any way to style them short of black tights?
Can you hand sew the slits so they are not so high?

@@Thestyleinsider. Thanks. I looked for a day for those jeans with the vertical color blocks on a diagonal and they're Farm Rio. But, I've looked for two days trying to find the accompanying denim safari-style jacket with pockets and buckled belt and can't find it online anywhere. That's the one that's pulling my hair out as I can usually recognize clothing items quite well. But, I can't figure out who that one is by and I can't do the APP where one can put in a photo and then have the name of the item pop up. I'm on my MacBook Air.

I would try all of these, but my issue is never really the leg cut or style, it's the gaping in the back 😭 I know I could get them altered, but never like the look of how they're a bit lower in the back than the front after and I don't think it makes a very flattering line from the side. It would be nice if the back went a bit higher so it was a horizontal line instead of an angled one that makes me look wider. It's very frustrating.... No matter what size I get it never solves the problem and I don't always want to wear belt for every occasion I wear jeans.
Try some brands for curves and that have some stretch. It has always been much easier to fit midrise or low-rise jeans when you have a small waist compared to your hips. Why I still prefer to avoid high-rise anything. I learned to sew and make my own now, you are right that alterations compromise the line.
