Mia Krampl made her first World Cup final at the 2019 Munich World cup, but was battling a knee injury. By taking a move commonly found in ice climbing she was able to work around her knee injury and break the beta and secure a spot on the podium. Mia is the other female athlete from Slovenia that will be competing at the Olympics.

The moment when she sends the figure 4 and the he crowd just loses it is so amazing. I can only imagine how hype the atmosphere was there
Been there, i even just found me in the Video ;) The acoustic Atmosphere in this Hall makes this Event so amazing & intense, togehter with the awesome athletes in there!
The follow-up knee bar was almost as sick as the figure four!
lol
Dang what an emotionally powerful moment when she tops that boulder, and hearing the crowd go wild really adds to the effect. Nice series, keep it up!
When I watched it live in the middle of night because of time zones I was sweating, screaming, and crying all in the span of 3 minutes. So inspirational and epic!
I was there live in the stadium, and yes, the crowd really was going crazy :D great effort of hers!
You could really see how much it meant to her when the crowd acknowledges her feat of strength and perseverance. That's what a real fighter looks like
@@hanneseinberger6862 Ah I'm so jealous you got to watch this in person! - Must have been an amazing performance to watch!
@@Lars16 one of the great moments in climbing that will be remembered in history forever!
im not crying ur crying
😭😭😭
You right
Lando?
I'm not crying, my eyes are sweating!
how can you not be romantic about climbing
Almost cried with the crowd cheering after the send
Been there in the crowd. From the moment she reached the upper left part of the boulder the atmosphere was just insane. She treated the crowd with super fun moves, figure 4, transition into a kneebar and a heroic top. Somehow she managed to make the crowd go wild. Super nice effort.
Loving the beta break series, Albert! I am going to keep up with the comps through your videos in the future!
Thanks so much Geek Climber! I'll be making some update videos once world cup season starts and hopefully keep you and everyone updated on competition climbers!
wtf is this water in my eyes?
I love this series! Beta breaking is so fun, but understandably a bit controversial in competition climbing sometimes. I'm especially happy that you've chosen to feature female climbers every other episode of this series. I hope you continue doing that!
Thanks Maia! It's really important to me that I cover female climbers too as some of my favorite historic moments (like this one) were done by female climbers. Thanks for noticing and I'll 100% be trying to keep up that trend!
This is my favorite show on UA-cam
Thanks Nabeel :) It means allot to me :))))
I am not a climber and stumbled on Mia because of UA-cam algorithm. But. Standing ovation - count me in. Heroic effort.
Heck yes! Thanks for watching!
Didn't expect Beta Break to make me tear up... Excellent video, I especially appreciate the inclusion of the demonstrations at the beginning
I remember watching this on tv with my 7 and 9 year old daughters, who are both realy into bouldering, "it's not fair, she can hardly walk!!!".
Then she did this.
You should check out Petra Kingler's Ice Climbing final where she literally injured her knee mid route and kept going to finish in Bronze
SHHHH that may or may not be a video I was planning :):):);)
I remember watching Mia suffering through the knee injury at the time and doing this problem during the comp, but I didn't understand the type of move she was doing at the time. Thanks for the video which makes it clear what a figure 4 is! Since watching this video earlier today, I went to my bouldering gym and practiced the move. Keep up the great videos.
No way! That's awesome! It's a really weird move to try out at first, but once you execute it - it feels SO cool. Keep crushing!
I watched the semis and finals and remember thinking every time she came out that you wanted her to just throw in the towel before she damaged it worse. You didn’t want to see her in anymore pain. The results were very emotional
Every time she winced you could feel the audience wince with her - I wanted her to stop but also wanted her to keep going to badly. A real roller coaster of emotions!
Was at the qualifiers of that event, and watched the live stream of the final. Super impressive performance! That season was mostly Janja's, but even though she won, Munich belonged to Mia that day.
I don't usually watch competition climbing, or any competition sport really. But for some reason I had the live stream on in the background and decided to watch Mia's climb. I got so scared when she got onto those cheeseblocks and then so psyched when she suddenly threw in that figure 4 AND THEN the kneebar! That was the first and only time I've ever yelled at televised sport.
Wow, please, PLEASE keep this series going. It's incredible.
KEEP THESE VIDEOS UP I LOVE THEM. As a newbie climber (14 months) this gives me inspiration for what my capabilities are
dude just discovered the channel, loving the beta break, and really liked the 50s parkour comparison
I'm definitely going to be making more of this series as other videos that are related to climbing. Thanks for the comment!
omg yet another great story - and so well told - keep going!
Ugh. Your videos are so amazing.
Just started climbing about a month ago, and your stuff is so inspiring.
Gotta love the support from the climbing community, even during such a big competition
Watched this live, such an incredible performance that was amazing and also painful to watch
Ah I'm so jealous! I watched it on the live stream, but I bet live you could feel the emotion radiating through the crowd and it must have been an amazing experience.
hearth melting story! amazing job and inspirational for sure
Hey man saw you on climbing reddit and just watched all your videos, honestly amazing job! Really looking forward to the next stuff you'll cover here
Thanks man! I'll definitely be releasing more content like this and content a little different than this which hopefully you'll enjoy!
love this series Albert.
Keeping crushing. ;)
Albert, i love how you always finish the videos with an uplifting comment, like keep crushing it X... I love that! Thanks for the beta breaks, I don't even climb and looove this series of yours! Great work!
Thanks Andres! I try and find a positive way to end things. Hope you have a great day!
Great series! Keep it up
I recently discovered your channel and your videos are incredibly well made, it's very cool to discover high quality work like that on UA-cam, I really hope you'll soon have the success you deserve!
Have a nice day
Thanks so much! I just enjoy making the videos and if success is a part of that equation it could be pretty cool! But at the end of the day I don't really mind and just want to provide content!
I don't usually see myself as being very patriotic, but I can't help but feel 2 things:
"Well done, Mia!" and
"Slovenia is relevant"
I don't think I am able to appreciate how much effort she put into that climb, some of those holds look impossible for us mere mortals.
Love this series so much. Keep it going
Thanks Matthew! I most definitely will keep it up! I have so many beta breaks to talk about in the future! :)
Best series other than actual competitions.
Really great series! Top-notch!
Thanks Joonas! I'll keep making more videos like this so I hope you enjoy them!
Just discovered the channel. Loving the series!
Man that top actually made me tear up! Thanks for video, keep it up!
Ah I teared up watching it live so hard. It was such an amazing moment and I get the chills every time I watch it!
Nice content again! Keep up good work!
Thanks so much! Can't wait to release more content next week!

this is a great channel!
This is so inspiring
Thanks, Albert!
I was not aware I was looking for beta break video's. This stuff is fantastic haha
Thanks Loek!
Great content
Thanks man
Thank you thank you Ewen! I'll definitely be keeping this content coming in the future!
The crowd was so wholesome. ❤
What a great series! Can't wait to see more of this
Thanks! I'll be making more for sure in the future! :)
Dang, right in the feels 😭
Ok, on my way to the climbing gym now...
What a bloody interesting video, I really enjoyed it! Watched a couple
of your videos, you seem to really break down and get to the bones of some cool topics with climbing - I really like the video about Nathan Coleman, do you think you could do similar video on what Jain Kim does right?
Thanks Callum! I planned on making one of her in the future, she's one of my favorite climbers so I have plenty to say about her. Can't wait to keep making more content for you to watch!
@@AlbertOkay Keep it up mate!
i just had an elbow dislocation and 2 torn ligaments from a boulder accident, its encouraging to see people climbing who had an accident themselves.
Ice climbing competition looks rad!
This series goes in the history books, they tear me up every time I watch them. Albert, we miss you, I hope you're doing well.
God, the vibes are always so good at climbing comps, this lade me tear up a bit.
I don't know any other sport where everyone genuinely roots for everyone including opponents.
This made me cry 😢
Why did I actually cry? This was so intense :'D
so im not the only one crying like a baby here, what a master climber, this is going to be history
Truly heroic
That's incredible!
I think this is my favorite beta break so far
It's definitely one my top beta breaks as well because the story was so inspirational and I tear up every time I watch it
Didn't see it at the time. Amazing
I'm crying.
You know the crowd is losing it when it starts overpowering the commentator mic's noise reduction
When the commenters speak one over the other and the crowd goes insane, you know there is an incredible moment
Need more people like this
yes!
Here we call it "yaniro". It's a quite usefull move. It's born on the climbing world and later widely used in ice vlimbing when the ice peak start to change shape. This name is from the legend Tony Yaniro and some amazing pics of him using this strange move in the years when climbing was a new discovery.
my old team mate broke both his ankles at our highschool's regional comp, but that didn't stop him from finishing a few climbs to qualify
I swear I didnt cry!!!
I am more like a robot but that game really made me some tear.
Wait where was that clip with the hanging obstacles?
Thank you UA-cam algorithm!!
did she get a knee Krampl?
fastest sub of my life
favorite comment of my life
I just happened to watch that competition yesterday. juicing the horrendous cheese blocks with a limp
6:09 Janja: Keep crushing, Mia.
Love figure 4
And the one boulder she didn't top was the first one. After that, it looked like it was probably a mistake to compete. I stand corrected. Well, I don't know if aggravating the injury was worth it, but taking third was rather surprising.
Not to steal from the magic of this moment in IFSC history, but I don't believe the setters in this specific case were trying to "force" any beta for the 2nd half of the boulder. Manu and Laurent have both said many times that they like leaving boulders open to interpretation so that the athletes can express themselves through their climbing. I think this was a really special circumstance where Mia got to do that due to the limitations of her injury (and maybe she would have climbed it this way uninjured as well). Either way, super controlled and calm climbing from her the whole way through and she definitely deserved to be in finals for her performance that day.
I wonder what the injury was, and how it's healed since then. Obviously it was heroic, but sometimes decisions like that can cost you a career. That being said if she's qualified for the olympics, I'm sure it's not too bad
That's fuckin badass
I'm not crying, you're crying.
Mia: you guys have legs?
My man Nikken @ 1:35
NIKKEN DANIELSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
0:07 why does he need a kettlebell to carry her?
how come only 3k likes? this is insane
I like making the videos regardless of likes :)
damn what a badass
She is!
Pain is temporary.
Pride...is forever.
I'm thinking about all those soccer players faking injuries...
Funny thing is hers looked more elegant too like not so forced
yeah nikken!
1:33
woohoo!
Of course Nikken just did the problem with a campus beta
She reminds me of guts
Somehow these female athletes don’t really seem to need knees ... or chalkbags ... crazy stuff
why do ice climbers climb on loose structures like that what in the real world is so loose when climbing
Rick flair favourite UA-cam video
Mia Cripple.
wait.... I might have misheard that name.
you could say she had a crample XD i am funny
LOL
That was great, but shouldn't she have been stopped from doing the comp for safety reasons? You could break a leg.
She woudn't really be a climber if she didn't get hurt then just go for it anyways. That's a staple
proof that anime is real
The CHARACTER ARC
please let male footballers watch this.
