Thank you so much for this video and the barcode video! For the new year, I’m trying to figure out a better inventory system since I’m now selling wholesale, in person, and online. I’m very excited to order the barcode scanner you mentioned in your other video, and this helps me with my SKUs for sure. I feel like I’m two years behind you on the small business growth timeline, so it’s really nice whenever I have a problem I just go to your page and look up a video and it always seems to be there! lol
I'm so glad it helped and thank you for taking the time to watch! Inventory tracking is always a fun nightmare. I'll prob make a new video soon about that adventure as whole and my move to shopify. But on another note, it's been fun seeing your business grow on tiktok! I'm always rooting for you when I come across your videos. :D
Thank you for your SKU breakdown. It's very helpful, and is there a program you recommend to use. I'm starting a business for the first time. thx you again.
@EmiiCreations I want to create SKU and barcodes for the items i make, I did get a square reader for point of sale & plan to use Square for tracking. Thank you Emii
Are you using this one? www.idautomation.com/free-barcode-products/code39-font/ You should not need to run a exe file for it. Once you download it, go into the 'IDAutomation.com Free Code 39 Font' folder and open the otf or ttf file. Once open, there should be an install/download button on the bottom or top depending on your operating system. Let me know if that helps.
Hi there. I wish that you would have shown how you actually go on whichever site you're using and set up the different sku in the inventory. For instance, first you want to log into your website, go to this, then click on this etc.
Oh! That’s a wonderful idea thank you for sharing. I will be making an inventory one for Shopify stuff. I’ll def note to add that information in there. 🥰 tyvm
I believe any other square compatible barcode scanner needs to be plugged into a usb port? Since I am using the ipad (also works with the iPhone now), I would need a Bluetooth scanner. The only Bluetooth scanner brand that works with square at the moment is Socket Mobile (model s700 and 7Ci now I think). Hope that helps answer your questions. Here’s more info: squareup.com/us/en/compatibility/accessories/barcode-scanners?device%5B%5D=reader-ios
Thank you so much for you kind words! I means a lot to me! I'm so excited for your small business! Let me know if you ever need any help with anything specific~
Is it possible to print the sku and price on the barcode for use with square register. I am having trouble with scanner reading barcodes. Your advice would be most appreciated. Thanks Maree
Hmmm. Where or which converter are you using to generate the barcodes? Is it scanning when it's on the computer screen? To get the sku and the price on the barcode, you may have to throw it into word or illustrator or photoshop and create yourself a template yourself if barcode generator doesn't do it. Let me know if that doesn't make sense.
Hi Emii! Thank you for this detailed video! I have a new small business of watercolor cards and am lost at how to track inventory and stuff (like my product line with all these new SKU’s that I’m creating). Is Excel the best way to go (if yes, I’ll have to learn Excel! 😬)
I’m so glad it’s helpful! I actually recently moved ALL my excel files to an online tool called airtable. If you are interested, I have an airtable video that speeds over how I use it. I personally LOVE it way more than excel.
@@EmiiCreations Thank you so much for your speedy reply! I JUST found that video and downloaded Airtable already! So much to learn but I think it will be a very useful tool! Im watching your video as im in the process of manufacturing about 25 items. Im looking for the best way to get started and i will have infinite items from clothing to footwear, accessories, home decor, sporting goods and much more !
Creating unique, internal SKUs is a great way to start. I used it when I name design files, track the inventory, and refer to them via SKU with employees and clients. If you plan on having A LOT of products, using the numbering tactic is often easier to manage. The numbers can correspond to year made as well. Let me know if you have any specific question I can help with!
Hi Thanks for your informative video. I am trying to set up square for a community shop and would appreciate your advice. Would it be better to set up a SKU for each craftsperson with their initials and just a price or would you suggest setting up SKU to actually record all stock individually under their initials.
I think it depends if you want the item to be recognizable when you read back the sku. IE if you’re goin to list the sku somewhere and you need to know what item it is without having to scan it. If not, initials+number would work fine and would be faster to implement. If anything, a better thing to consider if having each craft person in their own category then all their items listed under their category. That way when you export reports for category, it can give you a breakdown for each person. Let me know if that makes sense or if you have any other questions!
great video! I make a whole bunch of 1 design - let's say 20 of the exact same product - do i need to make a different SKU for each one. would I just add a # to the end?
Adding a unique number at the end would successfully make them different skus so I think that would be a great idea for this scenario! Only downside would be you would have to make sure to remember which design corresponds to which number.
Cool video. Thank you. I am trying to understand the placement of the bar codes. There is the UPS bar code, where is this code placed on? There is the SKU bar code, where is this code placed on? I am selling retail. Thank you
Do you mean on Square? The SKU is where you put it. The barcode is just a converted into lines version of the SKU. So as long as your Sku is filled out it should find it
@@EmiiCreations Not on Square. Generally, where on the product the SKU and the UPC bar codes are located. Product package, shipping box, shipping pallets, or product itself?
@@eugeneursu I see! honestly, if the product has a upc barcode, I would use that instead. If you would still like a sku barcode for your internal system, it’s better to replace the UPC barcode to avoid confusion or place it right under the upc barcode. But the product itself. However you are selling the product and however you expect to check out. So if you sell in packs of four, on the pack. If you sell them individually, on the individual product. I hope that helps?
You can certainly have SKUs with different amounts of sections. My clothing SKU tend to be longer than most my other ones since it has sizes Example: clothes: BC-BR-WH-XS food: SB-CD-8
V helpful ty! Im totally new about to acquire the hardware and all. How do I import an excel file onto square whereby the columns are named differently and do not align to the square require3d template? Some of my columns actually also calculates my margins. Do i have to reconfigure my spreadsheet completely - that would be horrendous:)
Sorry I've never used their importer. But usually, you just need to make sure the columns are named correctly. In most cases, you don't need to match column location as long as the name of the column matches. But try the file with one or two items first to make sure it works before bulk importing everything. I suggest reaching out to Square directly if you encounter any issues. Here's their article on importing: squareup.com/help/us/en/article/5153-import-items-online
You should add your sku / barcode video link to the description. I think it's this one. [How To] make Scannable Barcodes from SKUs with Square || EmiiCreations - UA-cam
I’ve switch over to Shopify recently and they have a cost section for each product. Then you can run cost of goods and inventory reports on everything. Is that what you mean?
I personally would use hyphens since that seems more standard. But you can try with the slashes to see if it scans correctly if you like the slash look better. The 'Lav' in there twice might seem repetitive but I would have to look at your whole line to confirm. If you could do 'Ess-Lav-1' That would be less text and make your barcode shorter.
It’s really up to the owner of the business. Usually having a formula keeps things organize and scalable. You can try some of the auto-sku generators in the link below. Those do a pretty good job. Let me know if there’s anything else I can help with! :D thank you for watching the video
