Thanks for this video. I have been using Square for a few years but ready to take my business to the next step getting more organized with SKU items. This seemed pretty explanatory. I will tag you on a product, to give you credit for your awesomeness, once I get items labeled!
@@EmiiCreations I took notes and made a template for our company to use. We are just starting with a square register and inventory system. Actually ordering this week. No need to reply I am genuinely grateful for the spot on advice!
Thank you for this my s700 is coming in 2 days and i cant wait to get started with this. Very informative video i also followed your formula for SKU’s and incorporate it in my business.
Thank you for this video! Quick question. What are your thought on using QR codes versus what you have shown here. This will be for use with the Square POS system of course.
Yes, QR code should work fine. I know a friend that uses QR codes because the square size fits better with the shape of her product and packaging. I’ve also been told it scans faster. The only downside I can see is if your have it on your product and your clients try scanning it assuming it’ll link to your website.
Thank you once again - building my understanding in developing a barcoding system for my craft items made. I do love your videos - so informative. Thanks
If I have a squarespace website and I connect Square to it will it automatically update my inventory on my website when I do a in-person sale and scan the bar code?
Are you using the squarespace app? If so, since it's a Squarespace app and not a Square app, I'm not actually sure if their app supports barcode scanning. Since their website does not mention the option, I would reach out to Squarespace support to confirm their app has that functionality before you buy a scanner.
Hello! It most definitely can work even if you have one product. Makes checkout, tracking easier and if you ever decide to expand, you already have everything setup. :D hope that helps!
Hi Emili - So Thankful for the videos, very well explained. We just purchased the socket scanner and we setup our sku numbers but we are having difficulties linking it to square to control the inventory. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again
Do you mean linking the barcode scanner? Is it having trouble staying connected or altogether not finding the scanner? There’s a way to reset the scanner by holding the power and scan button for a long time. Prob do that as well as ‘forgetting’ the scanner on the Bluetooth screen to have to try to reset the connection. Hope that makes sense and helps.
Hi Emili Sorry for the late reply- We were just trying to combine square with square space but it seems like we have to use another app called Zapier. Also one quick question how do you create a bundle of products in square space for sale to attract customers . Any help will be greatly appreciated. Hope all is well Take care Marc
@@marcl9911 Hi marc. Yes, square and Squarespace don't play well with others. I moved from that to Shopify for this reason. If you're dealing with inventory you can also try to look up Trunk (www.trunkinventory.com/) as a possible sync option as well. Squarespace does not support bundling. However, they might have this feature in Trunk. You might have to do more research on that end or reach out to Trunk support for questions on how that can be utilized to your needs.
You should use Code 128 and the size of the labels can be anything that's readable by the scanner. I would test it out to make sure its not too small or blurry before committing. Hope that helps.
I run a gift basket business and I was wondering if there is a way to create a Gift Basket, to be sold as one item, pulling numerous items from stock? Is there a way to create gift baskets, that pulls from your stock items - but sells as one? You are very knowledgeable so would greatly appreciate a video on this topic if possible! 😊
Hello Gisela! I did some quick research for you and it seems that Square does not have a bundling option at the moment. It was a requested feature in 2016 but they still haven't made any moves to add this option so I'm assuming they're not going to anytime soon. If you are willing to spend some money, there are some alternatives: A pretty new company called "Trunk" has a features that allows you to do this by connecting to your Square and it helps you update the proper inventory. I've used them before and they're a very lovely company. However, if you're doing a lot of sales/transactions, their pricing may be high (but email them anyways cause they may offer discounts). Here's their info on how it works: help.trunkinventory.com/en/articles/4593513-example-keeping-shirts-synced-across-different-styles Otherwise, you could also try other inventory tracking softwares like ZOHO but that has a higher learning curve, fees, and timely to setup. It may not be what you hope for but I hope it still helps a bit~
This video is an informative and useful. It saved my time to do the research on the internet by myself. I've subscribed your channel. Keep going and do your best. Thanks
I go to shows also. And I am looking for something like this to track my inventory. This is a great idea. But my main question. How does it track inventory if customers pay cash. Does it have a option in square or another platform. 🤔. I under standard to scan the items but what if they pay with cash at checkout. I'm new and still trying to figure it out.
Welcome! Square has an option to mark the payment as a cash transaction. You’ll see it listed when you go to check them out. Most other platforms should have this option too but it’s been a while since I’ve used others so not too sure about PayPal or Shopify etc
Hi, Thank you for the video this is very helpful was wondering I use the square terminal, can I still use the barcode scanner with the free version on this item?
Yes, you should be able to scan barcodes no problem with the free version. Just make sure you have the sku section filled out properly. Feel free to me know if there are any issues!
Can I use this system (scanner and square) for both self generated bar codes for my own products as well as the ‘bar codes’ that are already on products such as books etc? Looking for a system to do both those things. Hoping I could scan the bar codes on books and other products I carry and add them to my inventory with a quick description and price. When customers come up to cash I would like to make it a quick checkout and be able to scan everything in easily. Really appreciate your video and any help!
Hello! Yes, they will work for both types of barcodes. But just in case, I will mention You will only be able to assign one barcode per item though (there are some programs out there that can recognize two different barcodes for one item). One fast way to do it: once you create the item, you can got into the ‘Edit Item’ screen in the Square app, scan the barcode, and the barcode will populate for you in the “SKU” section. For the official UPC barcode on the book, this may look like a series of random numbers. I hope that helps but let me know if you still have questions.
Hi! Do you have to have Square Retail Plus to do this? Also, do you have to have a square shop? Our shop is exported to WooCommerce to work with our website. From looking at the Square website, Retail Plus is required but I am wondering if your method is a work around? We don't want to invest in the equipment if we also have to do a monthly fee for Retail Plus or if a Square store is required.
You do not need square plus to scan barcodes. It works with the free version. I don’t have square shop. I actually migrated everything to Shopify last year which I’ll make a new barcode and inventory tracking video for later on.
Oh I also do recommend buying the the scanner directly from their website (instead of Amazon for example) if you have any reservations to utilize their refund (altho there is a 15% restocking fee I think) or support. I’ve had one of mine arrive not working and they replaced it in full for free for example.
Technically, the socket mobile itself it should be compatible. It's more of if the application you are using on the mac book supports it as well. Are you trying to connect it to Square on mac? How are you trying to use it?
@@EmiiCreations I use Square on my website and for in person events. So, your video helped me out a lot! 🤩 For in person events i would like to use: Square as my method to process payments, socket mobile for scanning items and a mac book to be used as a terminal (vs an ipad). I just wonder if Socket Mobile compatible with mac books systems (excluding iphone)
Hey Emily! Thanks for making such a helpful video, I have a question. I tried linking my etsy inventory with square, but the sku numbers don't get imported. So right now I am maintaining 2 separate inventories (one for square and one for etsy). How are you able to track your etsy inventory through square?
There’s two way you can potentially manage them. The first is using trunk to help you sync across multiple channels. You do have to pay for trunk (www.trunkinventory.com) The second is how I’m doing atm which is recording the sale on square under ‘other’ for payment method. I do this when I pull the product and I put the Etsy client name into the notes section.
Thank you for this very HELPFUL video Emii! I'm in the process of getting a Square stand for my meal prep business. I'm having some difficulties setting up the checkout on my Square account. Do you have a video on setting this up? Square CU takes forever to reply back!
Which part? Do you mean the barcode scanning is having issues? Or simple credit card transactions? Or is it not connecting to the square stand? Or having issues inputting inventory?
My wife has her own makeup/spa business which she runs out from our basement. She provides lots of services, just hired her first employee and she has lots of products to purchase in her spa, and also online. I’m looking to purchase the whole iPad kit, cash drawer and all that. Or bite the bullet and spend the extra money for the Square Register including all the accessories. I just want your opinion on what would be best for her. Thank you
I personally would vote for the iPad with stand. Apple’s software and hardware is pretty solid and you are guaranteed at least one year of support at any Apple store. I use their in person support a lot even out of warranty. I’m not sure if the square hardware and support is at that level. Also, I encourage her to see how she can use the iPad for other parts of her business. One small example is maybe one day buying a Bluetooth speaker and playing music in her spa via iPad. Or using the good notes app to write down quick notes during work. Or the calendar app to setup reminders or appointments. I feel like you get more power at your fingertips for the money. I’m also pretty bias cause I’ve never had the register before and I’m pretty integrated in the Apple world having also an iPhone and Mac. I also work on the road a lot so portability is high on my priority list. So take the advice with that in consideration. Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions!
Hello Emily, Thank you for your video. Very informative. I am in the process trying to develop a system to manage my inventory and yours definitely is one to consider. I will like to know how you set it up on square to add to your inventory by scanning your barcodes. Also does the scanner and square work to reduce your stock by unit sold anytime you scan a barcode or do you have to do it manually.
Hello! You will need to add items manually. After the items are added, you can can the barcode to add the sku or barcode number to the item. You will need to 'check out' as a sales for the stock to decrement automatically. For example, when I sell a product wholesale or online or at one of my popups: I scan the order and then checkout with 'cash'.
I think it would depend on what you want to track and how you want to price the products. If each shoe is unique (you may only have 1-2 of each in your stock and won’t restock that particular design after it’s sold out), you may want to try a broader SKU barcode option like by price. IE. All shoes with the same price will have the same barcode because you’re not worried about knowing if that particular design is in stock or not. But if you’re wanted to track very specific inventory including design and size, then you may need to do all 300 as separate barcodes. Hope that helps and makes sense.
Hi Emily, Quick question: Would you do the checkout or anyone else tell me how the process goes? How does this link with the POS to enable a customer pay using either Debit or Credit Card? Thanks!
Yes this links with your POS system. I use my iPad with square in the video but Shopify works generally the same. The app has a tab to connect hardware and there is usually an option for a barcode scanner. Follow the steps square gives you to get that connected. Then as long as your product has the SQU (barcode for Shopify) field filled out correctly, it will scan properly.
This would be much more easier if you make a video showing how to step by step with the terminal device that you actually use. Thanks for your quick reply! 🙏🏾
Try this font barcode generator: www.tiktok.com/t/ZTR1L5fg3/?k=1 I found out about it after I made this video and it helped me a bunch! If you have a lot of products the numbering system may be easier to manage. You could prioritize merch categories for the alphabetical part then just number for the item. Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns!
I just found your videos and they are super helpful! Thank you for sharing but I do have a quick question. Will this still work on the free version? After watching I realized the video was made last year and wasn't sure if this still works or if I would have to get the paid version?! I own a kids clothing shop and would love to use a scanner! Thank you again!
Of square? The free version of square does work with it. The only investment that may be difficult is the cost of the barcode scanner. Hope that answers ur question!
Hello. Just found your channel. I don't have an iPad I have a Samsung Galaxy tab. Can I use that instead of an iPad to integrate my inventory using the socket barcode scanner?
I don't have one myself but here's info on which scanner is supported with android devices: squareup.com/help/us/en/article/5143-bar-code-scanners-with-square-point-of-sale I hope that helps~
Have you used the keyboard version to scan using your phones camera? I’d like to try scanning barcodes before committing to buying a scanner and thought that might be a good option
@@EmiiCreations I looked on their website and clicked on SocketCam Barcode Scanners which apparently is a keyboard you download onto your phone and then the keyboard opens your camera somehow for you to scan? I’m definitely going to do more research on this option!
Hi. What label format do you use in ibarcoder? Any time i try to save the image to then upload to Avery just keeps saving as multiples (like a sheet layout) thx
Thank you. I need a new POS system for my gift store. Many wholesale items that I buy to sell have NO barcodes. So I need something that can generate a barcode that we can then easily scan to check people out. ❤
I'm glad it helped you out! It's a perfect system for gift stores and since you're store is stationery it may mean you have more options on what barcode scanners and setups you can use. Happy selling!
Hi Emily, Thank you so much for taking the time to create this informative and helpful video. I was wondering if you can shed some light on step 4: Print. I have downloaded the IDAutomationHC39M Free Version, I created a list in Excel. My question is how I can print multiple barcodes on one sheet. (It looks like you have different barcodes on the page shown in the video.
@@EmiiCreationsYou're amazing, thank you for your quick response. Yes, I does, I have an Avery account and use often. I only see one square template. How do i copy the barcode from excel as one to avery..lol
@@EmiiCreations I'm using excel. I can copy it, but not paste it into Avery. I figured it out I must use a barcode generator even though I created a barcode with excel. Now I can copy the excel words, copy into the barcode generator. Save as png, create the file. Once I created and downloaded it. I can add it to Avery as a image, adjust, save and print. Thank you for your help. :-)
Depends on what you’re using it for. If just a register you won’t need much. If you are like me and work a lot on the iPad for things like procreate and writing notes, then more might be better.
Not sure if you can help with this but do you know if I create my own bar codes and use a scanner, do I have to have Square Plus? I currently have square free and the only part of Plus I want is the barcodes! Its not worth the cost because I don't need any of the other aspects of plus! But if I'M creating my own barcodes outside of square, is that a way around paying for Plus? And can I still scan the barcodes free?
You do not need square plus! You can make barcode labels at home with free barcode generators As long as the SKU section of your item matches the barcode text, the free version will still recognize the scan. Hope that makes sense but let me kno if you need clarification.
Hi Emily! I own a vintage store so every items are unique. I’m using square and I want to use barre codes just to stick the prices on the clothing tags and be able to rapidly scan items at checkout Do you think it’s worth it and doable ?
If every item is unique, I am assuming it not entirely necessary to track inventory. In that case, you may want to just create SKUs for general prices in categories. IE: $15 hats have one SKU, $30 shirts have another SKU. Let me know if that makes sense. It allows you to track what product type sells the most as well as instantly have the correct price rung up during check-out.
Hello! Thank you so much for such a informative video. I sell mainly t-shirts and I have a lot of inventory so I’m trying to find ways to get organized. I have Shopify, can Square be integrated some kinda way? I used to use square before I did my online store. I need a way to track all my shirt inventory but it also pull out when someone orders. Hope that makes sense
First method: Honestly the way I'm doing it is: I'm scanning in each online order and checking out via cash with Square. So my helper prints the receipts and as she's pulling product, she basically re-processes the order on Square. Second option: However, I have heard Shopify might have its own POS/tracking/barcode support (help.shopify.com/en/manual/sell-in-person/hardware/barcode-scanners). You might be able to do all of the above within Shopify's system. The third option: I know is to use 'Trunk' which is an online tool that can sync inventory across multiple platforms.
I don't have one myself but, correct me if I'm wrong, I believe the square terminal can connect to an iPad. The iPad would then be used with the scanner. So yes, if you have your terminal connected to an iPad, you will be able to use the scanner.
I've made my sku's and printed them, but they don't scan. I manually added them to Square, but even when I don't add them manually and try to add it by scanning them, it doesn't scan the barcodes that I've printed. Any suggestions? I'm getting frustrated. I have the socket scanner and the same labels (8167).
It is something with printing them, I think. I tried scanning one from my computer screen and that worked. I have an Epson 2850 if that matters. However, I got it to scan in the barcode from the screen to the item list, but when I went to checkout, it wouldn't scan.
Hello! So sometimes it’s because the registration bars are too close together or bleeds into each other when You print them. Things to try is make it as big as possible without losing any bars off the edges. Also, use the lease amount of ink. For printers, you can use fast print or plain paper settings or both of you have it. There are also sometimes intensity setting you can dial down.
Do you think it is worth it to pay $60/month for Square Plus in order to be able to use their barcode generator? Or can I use the free plan with barcodes that I generate elsewhere? I own a retail plant store and I need barcodes so I can checkout customers more quickly but I’m not sure what is best
From what I tested, (not sure if it's only for this particular scanner) the scanner doesn't seem to be recognizing white barcodes on a back background. I think the best I can suggest is to keep the barcode the standard back on white.
Great video! I'm a little confused as to how the barcode created outside of square links into your created inventory in the square system.... my scanner is from square and it isn't scanning the barcodes and when I use my phone with the square app it autogenerates images that aren't mine... any ideas on what's happening? Thanks so much!
Where are you getting the barcodes? One way to insure the barcodes match the product go to: Items > all items > ‘find and open your product’ While your product is open to the edit item screen, (if you have variations, click on the variation you want to update), then scan your barcode. It should then cause the the sku field to auto-update. Then when you go back to the checkout screen, try scanning to see if it works. Let me know if that makes sense!
Thank you for watching! Depends on what program you are using to convert or print. I usually throw it back into Photoshop or illustrator and make myself a template to use. Usually the price I put above the barcode. I’m not sure if that helps? But let me know if you have any follow up questions
TLDR Prob not. Squarespace originally or might still partner with Square for POS in-person sales so by my logic, unless they plan on building their own POS system eventually, I don't think they will open support for scanner/barcodes because they wouldn't have a need for them. The might be third party apps that could support it? But natively I don't think so.
I do have a question. I have figured out how to generate barcodes and print them using other applications, however when I scan the barcode, the product shows up in square but I have to add it to the cart and hit the search button for each itemI scan. Is there a way to bypass that where you can scan and add to the cart automatically like in a checkout?
It should just add it to the cart automatically when you scan the barcode as long as you’re on the checkout screen. Are you using an iPad or Desktop or phone?
I’m using an iPad, however every time I scan an item, it pops up, but I have to click add to cart, then select the search bar in order to be able to scan another item. Is there a way to change the settings to have it automatically be put in your cart? Right now there is just too many steps to ring people up. Thanks, Dan
I have two and they work fine. BUT I did get a dud once and I called the company and they immediately replaced it without any issues. So def buy it from their official website to make sure you can get their full service. Sadly it is also one of the only brands that work with devices without extra stand or converters so they do have a bit of monopoly over that market. So there aren’t a lot of other options at the moment.
Do you have variations with your item? You might have to click the variation you want to edit first. Otherwise, it should be showing up. If your still having issues feel free to send me a photo or video and I can try to help you debug it.
So if I were a retailer selling items for ma wholesale, like pet supplies. can I add the barcodes that are already on the item from say.. cat food or fish tank filters?
Yes, if I am understanding the question correctly, you can add existing barcodes to square items. here's a quick video I did for that and just let me know if you have any additional questions: www.dropbox.com/s/rl6d6b62gm662f5/EditSKUviaScan.mov?dl=0
I appreciate the video. I suppose what Iam most confused about is the "why" have a barcode and separate SKU. When I carry a bag of cat food for example it already comes from the whole sale distributor with a barcode on it and the GTIN (global product number thing). Why would I want or need to make my own SKU for a product that is already globally listed? Or am I confusing use cases?
@@JohnWeland If you already have a barcode, this is not the use case for you. This is usually for business that have not submitted their products into the official GTIN/UPC system and don’t have official barcodes because it cost monthly or annually (forgot which one) to keep the upc barcodes live. So the people that sell you their products have paid for their barcodes for you already and eliminating the need for you to worry about producing your own barcodes for your own store. So this particular SKU method allows these people without barcodes to still have free scannable barcodes without having to make UPC ones. Let me know if that makes more sense.
@@EmiiCreations OK thank you. I was afraid I needed to do more backend work (we're merely a week or so away from opening. I was worried I missed something)
@@JohnWeland gotcha! It’s always good to double check and congrats on the opening! Hope it goes wonderful. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions or concerns!~
I honestly don’t use random SKUs and don’t recommend because of readability and scalability. Here’s my sku making video if you need help with creating SKUs: ua-cam.com/video/1UvIoXJjpHU/v-deo.htmlsi=9LIvy0V26qGJGgKV
Depends on what square hardware you have but they do have a page you can look at to see which scanners are compatible: squareup.com/us/en/compatibility/accessories/barcode-scanners
@@EmiiCreations Your videos are so helpful. I had a question about assigning a price to the SKU's, especially since you have both wholesale pricing and retail pricing. When you scan the item in Square Register, do you need to alter the prices on the order/receipt depending on if it is a retail or wholesale customer?
Thank you so much this was very helpful. I’m so glad I found you!!! I do have one question. I sell both wholesale and retail. How would I set that up in Square? Do I have to set up 2 separate SKUs one for whole $ and one for Retail $? My greeting cards are going into retail stores so I have to make UPC CODEs. My other products I sell online so can I just create my internal SKUs so I’m not paying for Additional UPCs? Or would that be confusing later if I need to change them to UPCs? Thanks for your help! Again fantastic info
I would use the same listing for wholesale and retail so the inventory tracking is accurate. Usually I just make a 50% off discount so the price is reflected properly for wholesale. If you have UPC codes for the products, I would use the UPC codes instead of the SKU. For the products that don't have UPC codes, then you can make SKU codes for them. It's easy to change in Square and you can edit/update the code you use whenever. So you might end up having half your products using UPC and the other non-wholesale half using SKU which should be perfectly fine. Hope that makes sense but feel free to follow up if you have any questions or need further clarifications!
Hey, thanks for your video. So does this work for dropshipping? because many providers don't have the product barcode and I don't know how to get one. Take care😊
Are you dropshipping for your providers? Basically, you will need to create your own SKU for each product you sell and then convert them into barcodes as described in the video. Sorry if I miss understood but I hope that helps.
Because of what I do I don't have a lot of the same item they are all different. Can I have a lot of the barcodes printed and ready to go and just edit the info in the square registration system.
Yes that is also a way to do it. You can actually make the barcodes first. When you go to edit the item on square via iPad, you can scan the barcode and square will fill in the sku for you. Let me know if that makes sense I can send you a video of what I mean if you need.
@@starkgurl86 Sorry for the delay. I made a quick video for you here: www.dropbox.com/s/rl6d6b62gm662f5/EditSKUviaScan.mov?dl=0 Let me know if you have any additional questions!
I only know of the online free ones listed in the description. Sorry! There might be some out of but I have no use for them so I never invested time to look for them.
Depends on how you want to track the items. Let's say you sell widgets ( yellow, green, blue and red) . If you just want to know how many widgets you sell or how many are in stock.... you can use 1 barcode. Now if you want to know which one sells better to have a higher stock of, then you would need a barcode for each color. Now I did find a work around for this. You could give all 4 colors the same barcode. When you sell a widget, you get a message saying 4 items have this SKU and lists them. You can select which one. You need to create item Widget and variations Blue Yellow Green and Red .... all with the same UPC or barcode. Hope this helps
Sorry I totally missed this question. If you're using the Square system, I believe you do. Their system should be requiring a sku for each 'variation' which in this case would be each color. I usually just tack on a single letter to the end of the barcode. IE: PLU-FDL-SUSH-O (then ending 'O' for orange). Exception being if you sell them together as a set or a pack and don't ever sell them separately.
The barcode scanner? That’s even better if it works in the iPhone. I tried it a few years back and it didn’t work but it makes sense if they decided to change that because of demand.
When I first tried it, it didn't work with the iPhone. However, some newer Square articles have stated it does. I would call Square to double check as it was originally a limitation with Square's software (aka the barcode scanner connects to the iphone fine but Square POS iPhone app had issues recognizing it initially).
Hello, have been using Square reader and an Android phone when we go and do markets on weekends. As we sell succulents it can be overwelling with customers buying 6-10 succulents and takes time to process each customers sales - now looking at setting up barcodes and using a scanner to make this process easier and quicker (we used to write down each item customers bought, then add then up - or just slow looking up the items from our square items list) My question is as we only use the Square reader (my wife and myself have a Square reader each) and both of us use android phones, would you know of a scanner can we use with Android?
Hello! From what I’ve been reading, the socket mobile scanners should work fine with android but I do know there are a lot of variations with android phones so best way is to call socket mobile (www.sockermobile.com) to ask them if your specific phone model works with their scanners and ask for their return policy to see if it can be returned in case things don’t work out. I hope that helps!

Yes, it should work fine. I would double check with which scanners with with your android device. I think android devices actually have more scanner options. (squareup.com/us/en/compatibility/accessories/barcode-scanners)
I accidentally deleted some questions/comments with my fat finger XD so I’ll answer them here. About barcodes scanners you can use: 1. The scanner does now work with iPhones as well as iPads 2. If you have another type of scanner or want to buy another type, you may need to have the Square terminal, register, or stand. Some android devices may work with it. Check check here for compatibility first: squareup.com/help/us/en/article/5143-bar-code-scanners-with-square-point-of-sale
Thank you! That's a pretty cool suggestion! But from my knowledge of QR codes I think you can pay or checkout via Square with it but it won't add items to your checkout. I think there is a way for the QR to do 'online ordering' but the client will have to add the items themselves which may be difficult and slow if you have a lot of items. Is there another way you know of to utilize QR codes with Square? I'm very curious and interested. Thanks so much for adding to the discussion!
Learning Stuff - I used QR codes as my UPC code with Square on and Ipad Stand. I bought a 2D scanner but also found out that the IPad camera can read a QR code in the Square app. It also reads 1D barcodes in the Square app. Depending which camera you use on the Ipad it may be sensitive. That was one issue I had using the Stand and Ipad camera as a scanner. Now the IPhone or Ipad without the stand may work better. I am not sure tho which Barcodes it does support fully. Meaning the IPad camera for Square worked with a QR code but not an Aztec code. Even tho my handheld 2D scanner read them both. Hope this helps.
Thanks for this video. I have been using Square for a few years but ready to take my business to the next step getting more organized with SKU items. This seemed pretty explanatory. I will tag you on a product, to give you credit for your awesomeness, once I get items labeled!
Very welcome! I hope it ended up working well for you!
super helpful - I watched the SKU video first. This all makes sense and great tips. thank you so much!

OMG 500! Thank you I appreciate you~
Thank you for this video!
Thanks
Thank you so much for watching and goo luck with your craft business!
Hi Sara - Did it work with Squarespace?
Hello Emily great video would you recommend this for a one product business?
Hi Emili
Sorry for the late reply- We were just trying to combine square with square space but it seems like we have to use another app called Zapier.
Also one quick question how do you create a bundle of products in square space for sale to attract customers .
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Hope all is well
Take care

@@marcl9911 Hi marc. Yes, square and Squarespace don't play well with others. I moved from that to Shopify for this reason. If you're dealing with inventory you can also try to look up Trunk (www.trunkinventory.com/) as a possible sync option as well.
Squarespace does not support bundling. However, they might have this feature in Trunk. You might have to do more research on that end or reach out to Trunk support for questions on how that can be utilized to your needs.
Thanks Emili- Really appreciate The info. Thanks again
Hello Great Video I have a question, I am using Dymo 550 , what barcode format should I use for my products for Square POS Thank you
You should use Code 128 and the size of the labels can be anything that's readable by the scanner.
If you are willing to spend some money, there are some alternatives:
A pretty new company called "Trunk" has a features that allows you to do this by connecting to your Square and it helps you update the proper inventory. I've used them before and they're a very lovely company. However, if you're doing a lot of sales/transactions, their pricing may be high (but email them anyways cause they may offer discounts). Here's their info on how it works: help.trunkinventory.com/en/articles/4593513-example-keeping-shirts-synced-across-different-styles
Otherwise, you could also try other inventory tracking softwares like ZOHO but that has a higher learning curve, fees, and timely to setup.
It may not be what you hope for but I hope it still helps a bit~
Any ideas which program to use.
I use square
I am trying to get my online store up and going. Your videos are so helpful..did you have to have any specific licenses to sell or buy?

Any thoughts on how to add this an RFID system ?
If it's Square specific, I don't believe they have support for RFID systems only barcode scanning.
Great video! So informative!
Thank you! I’m glad it was helpful!
@@EmiiCreations Thank you!!! This is great!!
Oh I also do recommend buying the the scanner directly from their website (instead of Amazon for example) if you have any reservations to utilize their refund (altho there is a 15% restocking fee I think) or support. I’ve had one of mine arrive not working and they replaced it in full for free for example.

Hi! Thank you for this video! Do you know if Socket Mobile is compatible with a mac book vs an ipad?
Technically, the socket mobile itself it should be compatible. It's more of if the application you are using on the mac book supports it as well. Are you trying to connect it to Square on mac? How are you trying to use it?

You do have to pay for trunk (www.trunkinventory.com)
The second is how I’m doing atm which is recording the sale on square under ‘other’ for payment method. I do this when I pull the product and I put the Etsy client name into the notes section.
Ah okay so there are some work arounds to do it for free or otherwise there is a paid service that can do it. Thanks for the help!@@EmiiCreations
Can you print multiple, different barcodes on a sheet with ibarcoder?
I don’t think so tbh. I usually copy and paste it into another program like illustrator

Hello Emily,
Thank you for your video.
Thank you so much! This has helped a lot. Sending you many blessings wishes.
You are so welcome! Glad it helped!
Great video, thanks for the research! I can only hope to one day have enough products to take full advantage of this system. 😀
Thank you! Excited for your future growth!
hi Emii! This is very helpful and I love your video! Can you tell me what type of Ipad are you using?
I’m glad it was helpful. Mine is a 6th gen. That’s all I know 😅
Hey I’m opening a resell shoe store. Do you think I should use barcodes? I would have about 300 different barcodes for my shoe inventory
Hi Emily,
Quick question: Would you do the checkout or anyone else tell me how the process goes? How does this link with the POS to enable a customer pay using either Debit or Credit Card? Thanks!
Yes this links with your POS system. I use my iPad with square in the video but Shopify works generally the same. The app has a tab to connect hardware and there is usually an option for a barcode scanner. Follow the steps square gives you to get that connected. Then as long as your product has the SQU (barcode for Shopify) field filled out correctly, it will scan properly.
This would be much more easier if you make a video showing how to step by step with the terminal device that you actually use. Thanks for your quick reply!

Will skus be enough for my retail store with different Merch categories?😅 using the ibarcode generator? This is so difficult for me 🤦🏻♀️
Try this font barcode generator: www.tiktok.com/t/ZTR1L5fg3/?k=1

If you have a lot of products the numbering system may be easier to manage. You could prioritize merch categories for the alphabetical part then just number for the item. Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns!

How many GB should the IPad have 64 or 265 what do you recommend?
Depends on what you’re using it for. If just a register you won’t need much. If you are like me and work a lot on the iPad for things like procreate and writing notes, then more might be better.
Not sure if you can help with this but do you know if I create my own bar codes and use a scanner, do I have to have Square Plus? I currently have square free and the only part of Plus I want is the barcodes! Its not worth the cost because I don't need any of the other aspects of plus! But if I'M creating my own barcodes outside of square, is that a way around paying for Plus? And can I still scan the barcodes free?
You do not need square plus! You can make barcode labels at home with free barcode generators
As long as the SKU section of your item matches the barcode text, the free version will still recognize the scan.
Hope that makes sense but let me kno if you need clarification.
You are incredibly helpful. thank you so much. I have been using square for years but haven't jumped into the SKU inventory water. THANK YOU!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you. That helped a lot!
Thank you for watching and the kind words! I'm glad it was helpful~
Is this compatible with the Square terminal? I have customers from Canada, and they always need a receipt when crossing the border.
I don't have one myself but, correct me if I'm wrong, I believe the square terminal can connect to an iPad. The iPad would then be used with the scanner. So yes, if you have your terminal connected to an iPad, you will be able to use the scanner.
thank you
Do you know how to do that? I would love that set up!
never mind.. got it, now I just need to get these barcodes set up. Your videos are great!
It did! Thanks so much Emi!
Hello😊 will this integrate with my Shopify Store? Thanks in advance❤
Yes but you will need to put the SKU in the “barcode” section if you want to make it scannable.
Do you think it is worth it to pay $60/month for Square Plus in order to be able to use their barcode generator? Or can I use the free plan with barcodes that I generate elsewhere? I own a retail plant store and I need barcodes so I can checkout customers more quickly but I’m not sure what is best
You can use the free plan with barcodes you generate elsewhere! I use ibarcoder on my Mac.
hi, this bar code you make black tx..t over white background, how to make white txt or code over black background and to be scannable?
From what I tested, (not sure if it's only for this particular scanner) the scanner doesn't seem to be recognizing white barcodes on a back background. I think the best I can suggest is to keep the barcode the standard back on white.
Great video! I'm a little confused as to how the barcode created outside of square links into your created inventory in the square system.... my scanner is from square and it isn't scanning the barcodes and when I use my phone with the square app it autogenerates images that aren't mine... any ideas on what's happening? Thanks so much!
Where are you getting the barcodes? One way to insure the barcodes match the product go to: Items > all items > ‘find and open your product’
While your product is open to the edit item screen, (if you have variations, click on the variation you want to update), then scan your barcode. It should then cause the the sku field to auto-update. Then when you go back to the checkout screen, try scanning to see if it works.
Let me know if that makes sense!
Do you know if there is an area on a 128 barcode to add a price? Thanks for the video, very helpful!
Thank you for watching! Depends on what program you are using to convert or print. I usually throw it back into Photoshop or illustrator and make myself a template to use. Usually the price I put above the barcode. I’m not sure if that helps? But let me know if you have any follow up questions
Really helpful - Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Can this be used for squarespace? Ive googled several ways and can’t find my answer. I want to create this system but I don’t use square.
Hi Emily, What printer do you use to print the barcodes

Great info! Thank you
Thank you for watching!
Thanks, Dan
So this also marks the item sold in your inventory?
Hello! If you use Square to checkout, it will help decrement your inventory for you.
Does your scanner still work? I just bought one, but the reviews are horrible.
@@EmiiCreations Oh okay. Thank you for the feedback. I bought mine on Amazon. I'll just return it. Thank you!

Hi how do you add a barcode to previously add inventory? When I go to edit a item to scan my barcode on the sku option is gone

Yes pls send the video, thank you!!
@@starkgurl86 Sorry for the delay. I made a quick video for you here: www.dropbox.com/s/rl6d6b62gm662f5/EditSKUviaScan.mov?dl=0
Let me know if you have any additional questions!
Can you skin the barcodes to add/scan inventory into Square?
Yes you can go into “items” and when you scan the barcode the window to edit inventory of item will pop up. Hope that helps.
is there a program for window that make barcode like this
I only know of the online free ones listed in the description. Sorry! There might be some out of but I have no use for them so I never invested time to look for them.
So if i have one product with 4 different color options do i just need to generate 4 different barcodes?
Thanks it works great
You're welcome! I'm glad to hear!
Is there a way to integrate this process with Squarespace?
I honestly don't think so. Are you trying to use it with their POS?
I noticed squares compatability list says this will work with an iPhone. So I called them and they said it does work with an iPhone.
The barcode scanner? That’s even better if it works in the iPhone. I tried it a few years back and it didn’t work but it makes sense if they decided to change that because of demand.
Name of the app please? Don't understand very well ( don't speak English)
In this video we use squareup.com/
@@EmiiCreations thanks you, say the app for make barcodes but many thanks.
@@Lau2artoh I see! I use: ibarcoder.com
Will that scanner work with an iPhone as well?
When I first tried it, it didn't work with the iPhone. However, some newer Square articles have stated it does. I would call Square to double check as it was originally a limitation with Square's software (aka the barcode scanner connects to the iphone fine but Square POS iPhone app had issues recognizing it initially).
Hello, have been using Square reader and an Android phone when we go and do markets on weekends. As we sell succulents it can be overwelling with customers buying 6-10 succulents and takes time to process each customers sales - now looking at setting up barcodes and using a scanner to make this process easier and quicker (we used to write down each item customers bought, then add then up - or just slow looking up the items from our square items list)
My question is as we only use the Square reader (my wife and myself have a Square reader each) and both of us use android phones, would you know of a scanner can we use with Android?
Thanks you rock
What’s the FDL in your sku mean?
It's just what I label one of my product lines. It's for everything that's foodie related and short of "foodie life". It's really an optional part. It just helps me recognize what the product it at a quick glance.
Here from tiktok
Amazing video.
Thank you so much! :D The audio is a little poor but hopefully not too bad!
Are you still answering questions on this?
Sure! You can either post it here or email me at emily@emiicreations.com
Do you use inkjet or thermal printers?
Inject but it’s possible to use thermal depending on how you setup your file.
@@EmiiCreations thanks for the fast reply, I bought the socket, and i have a PuQu bluetooth printer, and it notice the 10mm X 20 mm labels are too small to be read by the socket, what is the smallest barcode label you have tried to print and successfully scanned with the socket? thanks!
What is the Avery label sheet number you use in the video?
8167. thanks! i've watched this so many times! I have had a small shop selling vintage and handmade for 15 years, and use square and this is really helping to speed up checkout at my shop, I just want to find a more mobile printer that works with an ap on my store Iphone, there is a lot of back and forth between Macbook Air, Ipad / square stand and Iphone, and then a printer..i'm looking for a more streamlined system with the smallest labels possible for my jewelry and small apothercary products...
@@trisharhomberg6259 I think the 8167 is the smallest I’ve been able to make it go. I also tried a smaller one before and the reader couldn’t pick it up unless you make ur skus have less digits/letter then it might be able to fit a smaller size.
Those eyebrows tho, those things are epic as fuck. I'm not being sarcastic or mean, I love them!
Thank you! :D
I have an Android. Can this work
Yes, it should work fine. I would double check with which scanners with with your android device. I think android devices actually have more scanner options. (squareup.com/us/en/compatibility/accessories/barcode-scanners)
Your eyebrows are interesting btw
Thank you! 🥰 I was made fun of a lot at a kid but now people seem to love them haha!
I accidentally deleted some questions/comments with my fat finger XD so I’ll answer them here. About barcodes scanners you can use:
1. The scanner does now work with iPhones as well as iPads
2. If you have another type of scanner or want to buy another type, you may need to have the Square terminal, register, or stand. Some android devices may work with it. Check check here for compatibility first: squareup.com/help/us/en/article/5143-bar-code-scanners-with-square-point-of-sale
Excellent video. Couldn't you just create free QR codes and use your phone's camera as a scanner for free - instead of the Socket Mobile scanner?
Is square for Free? 🤍
Yes for the most part. they just take a credit card fee.
