December 27, 2020 and this is still one of the best videos about Die Cast / Triple Flanged Hoops comparison.
Bob is the only guy I know who can teach you more in 3:24 mns video than a book of 250 pages ...
If I had a tenth of this beautiful man's passion my life and the next ones would be set
he has the most awesome personality, i love his videos
Are those two Noble and Cooley/Zildjian snares drums he's using?!!!!!!
You are a fountain of knowledge. Thanks, Bob.
After the video, he drove away on that drum kit with flames on it
Bob your the greatest info. guy on UA-cam!
thanks it is so informative and helpful
A quality demonstration 👍
FINALLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fantastic Demonstration!
great learning thank you 👍🏼
KA-LUNK! :D
you rock man!!!
Bob Gatzen gives the best lessons.
“So what’s the hoop law all about? It’s the laws of the hoop: you know, these things that hold the head down to the snare drum”... Wait for it... “heh heh HAH HAH” 🥴
Bob Gatzen, you splendid magnificent joker. The first and only teacher I needed to learn to tune when I started playing 12 years ago.
Thank you for teaching me and for making me laugh at your dad jokes (hopefully I’ll get there soon too).
Hello Bob.
Could you tell the difference between metal hoop and wooden hoop on the bass drums?
Thanks a lot.
wood hoops on a tom or snares add resonance and sustain to a drum. i assume it works for bass drums to.
Hey bob, quick question. I was just wondering if you know of a website or company that sells die-cast hoops.
This sounded like an ideal change to make on my “ringy” snare until I discovered that a single 14” die cast hoop costs $75… from the discount sources.
GREAT !!!!
Interesting!
Thank you very much for this video. -Justice Constantine
Actually a diecast hoops vibrates much more and has a musical note. If you hold the hoop on the tip of your finger on a thick part where the tension rod eyelet meets the hoop you will hear a clear bell like tone.
Was hoping to see 1.6 vs 2.3
Anyone know where I can get a 26" china cymbal?
@mrboverbro
as on a snare bottom hoop flanges and top diecast
I've got Pearl MasterCast Hoops which are die cast, but when I take them off and hit them they definitely resonate loads like a flanged hoop... Confusing! And frustrating as the overtone-dampening effect of die cast hoops is what I'm after.
pjftl Try TAMA.
can u put 1 hoop dicast and 1 hoop flanged on 1 drum
How about wood hoops?
OMG I've never even thought about tapping a hoop like that. I'm gonna have some fun with that dinging noise.
@mrboverbro yes....
Not all diecast or flanged hoops are the same. My Pearl diecast hoops ring out but my Tama are dead as can be.
dude you are just a drumgod. nothing more nothing less
I like the die cast sounds good
Did anyone know, where i can get a 10" 5 Lug Die-Cast hoop?
Or 6 lug?
Different weight tripe flange hoops have significantly different effects on drums.....
I'll take the die-cast please!
Those are to die for
Bob's your uncle!
Next time you set up an Experiment, at least use the single-blind method. Put the drums behind a curtain and don't tell us which is which ;-)
and that's the poop on the hoop
bill zickos said it best: die cast hoops are accoustically dead at birth. there is no die cast hoops on joyful noise drums and there never will be. same for brady drums.
What size flanged? 2.3? 1.6? C'mon man...
Thorum13 Unnecessary info. Not the point of the video.
28 seconds in and already you made a mistake. High quality hoops start at 1.6mm now days and in the past 2.3mm not 2.5mm. You would have a tough time finding steel hoops thincker than 2.3mm.
Die cast is better
