- When estimating inside a kitchen, it's important to keep an eye-out for expected complications during the repairs. Often, removing a counter-top from a backsplash will result in additional damage. It's important to anticipate expected supplements ahead of time!
$25k water claim ... like nobody's business.

WOW! these are like the best damn videos man! Extremely helpful to us newer guys. They really help a newer adjuster see firsthand what it's like to write a property damages estimate. The absolute best part of these videos other than the sketching & photo labeling is definitely how you explain the repair process for all these different claim scenarios. That's probably my biggest struggling point so far. These videos have been a big help! These videos are so good I even purchased your Xactimate Gold training from Adjuster University which I would highly recommend to anybody!
No complaints here. Great Videos! The only thing I would say that you could add to the videos is at the very end after you finish the estimate if you could just briefly explain everything you just did and why you did it. I know you already basically explain that as you go, I'm just saying for somebody that's new to this industry it helps paint a better picture of what they might do in a similar situation when writing an estimate. Just having it all said at once is helpful (This was damaged so I wrote for this, this and this)
But great videos man there very informative.
basically, if you could summarize what repairs you're writing for at the end of each estimate and why.
Also, I'm looking at this Residential Hail Certification you have available on Adjuster University- can you tell me more about it? What all does it cover? And what is the format of the course- like is it a video of you actually walking around a structure showing and discussing hail damage and how somebody would write an estimate for it?
Hey Hayden! We should definitely do that at the end of future vids, thanks for the idea!
The Res Hail course goes over everything you will probably encounter when handling a hail claim on a residential program -- from legit hail, to insignificant hail, all the way to 'not' hail. It goes over its affects on all types of materials, from asphalt shingles to metal, and so on. It gets you on the 'pro' level when it comes to hail damage evaluation, for sure!
The control A,C,V is a great idea!
Thanks for the tip
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, thanks for posting this!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video. 👍
Love it! The PH throws in the "Can you throw in the kitchen sink with it?"
Right?!
Estimate is short about $75k. Continuous floor all gets removed and replaced.
I like where your head's at!
Thanks for doing these videos
Glad you like them!
New sub here, thanks I’m learning a lot with you 👍🏼
Thanks for the sub!!!!
I need more examples of these breakdowns.. this is where the money is made.
On it!
Your paper sketch looks great. Do you have any videos on paper sketches? Do you use a pen and a ruler? We are getting a ton of work from this huge Colorado fire disaster and I am doing some sketching to help our guys out. Any advice on paper sketching would be MUCH appreciated.
It's only been less than 10 mins in the video and already got TONS of informational advice. Hope everyone watches this!
Glad to help!!!
Nice videos I have a small restoration company and I do not have this program how much does insurance pay to cut and remove the drywall per square foot I know it varies most likely by location just rough idea
Don’t think you added for antimicrobial W,F
Oh no!
If detaching the upper cabinets, you could have added the wall cabinets crown mold and painting it. Also, that gas range is extra large. Same with the fridge. The standard D&R line items aren't enough. The contents is pretty light too. I would have wrote for the POD, some boxes and 2 movers 1 dat for pack out and a second day to unpack so 32 total labor hrs. for contents. That's a $30k estimate.
This would easily be a $100k estimate if he knew how to write estimates. All the floors should be replaced. The insured didn't have floors 1/2 sanded down floors before the loss, insurance owes to get them back to pre loss condition. Countertops will break 99% of the time, it's reasonably likely it will break, write for it. He's also missing a lot of mitigation work that alone would probably be $20k. Not writing for some because the carrier will push back is a stupid argument. I'm a Public Insurance Adjuster in Texas and I haven't had a water loss yet that wasn't over $100k there's a lot of money in it, but you have to know how to write your estimates and argue your position.
@@ChipAhoy91 Completely agree. In fact, with proper structural drying the wood floor could be saved. Then sand & refinish. I was surprised he did not take laptop onsite. Paper sketches are fine on smaller projects but this one has too many variables. These vids are great for some estimating tips and confirm what I have been doing is better.
Hi. Am new to the business, can one use a phone instead of a laptop? Your response is so much appreciated
what is the learning curve time frame to learn xactimate?
Love the videos dude, I do have a question, can some of these water damages be dried in place without so much destruction
Thanks John! Sometimes, yes!
Your answer is No because to dry the floor and the walls they need to be removed.
So cool! How much did the insurance company pay you for this and how long did it take you in total? Thanks!
I can't remember too well, but for $25k, probably somewhere in the range of $750 - $1,000
could you please share the Pdf file with me, sir 🙏🙏
Sorry!!
I have always wondered why adjusters include stuff like removing potentially damaged insulation on the build back side or detaching countertops and cabinets to get to the floor underneath when that clearly needs to be done in the mitigation phase -- other than it just makes it more simple to do the estimate. When these tasks are included on the build back side, it can cause confusion in making a distinction from legitimate mitigation line items, which many times are done by a different contractor. Or, it may come across like the adjuster isn't recognizing that there may still be wet materials that need to be dealt with. Am I missing something?
I'm not sure I understand your message. Could you rephrase?
@@AdjusterUniversity Generally speaking, if you would agree that a property damage consists of two phases, mitigation and rebuild, then each phase consists of its own specialized line items due to the circumstances. For instance, dry wall might be wet, or detaching a countertop and cabinet might be a required task to get to a moldy or wet wall. In these cases, the labor component of the line item is set in Xact according to the appropriate HMR or WTR category for a reason -- it's more hazardous than general or construction labor. On the build back side, you can just use replace line items, for instance in a separate estimate. However, when an insured receives an estimate for replacing a kitchen that has remove and replace as if it's essentially a kitchen remodel, without consideration or acknowledgment that there is a mitigation phase associated with the demo portion, then we get to my point of potentially causing confusion, as well as accurately reflecting the actual costs of those two separate phases. Sure, some companies might do both mit and rebuild, but many don't. Hope that makes sense.
Yes.Want your kitchen rearranged for possibly months on end or a few days max when the right contractor is hired and an estimate is agreed on.It wasn't a fire.
what about water restoration fans, dehumidifier? Etes?
I bet the refinished floor will be hard to match the customers expectation , how did that work out ?
Worked out well! A qualified flooring contractor can make it happen.
@@AdjusterUniversity false, reputable flooring contractors will tell you cannot tie into an existing floor system and have it look good. Additionally, the insured is owed for preloss condition, they didn't have 1/2 sanded floors preloss. The carrier owes for full floor replacement.
👍
I know this is an old video. How many granite counters have NOT broken in the detach/reset motion in the past three years?
*trick question - No chance a countertop like this DOESN'T break at some point in the repair process.
We successfully detach and reset 98% of our countertops. Takes a real idiot to not be able to do it consistently.
@@Nothing_here______ congratulations. You’re the best.
I have been a Restoration Business for several years now and there is no way this is a 25k loss. If your a new claims adjuster don't estimate jobs like this is will cause you more headaches in the long run. Many supplements will be filed to get this pre loss condition. I am 9 minutes into the video and noticed several things wrong... here's an example he said the mosaic tile could be pieced together because it comes in squares well what happens when you take tile off drywall? It rips holes in the drywall that's just one of many things i realized this guy didn't account for.
I'm sorry you disagreed with this estimate.
I didn't know you could watch people get screwed on UA-cam.
These videos are a joke, do NOT write estimates like this lol
At 12:30 "plumbing failure suspected due to improper installation/poor workmanship"... there is no evidence to support that and you're disgustingly attempting to angle for a denial when the loss coverage would likely be applicable under the sudden and accidental breakage to the plumbing system.
This guy must work for Allstate
Hi William. There is no angle for a denial; in fact, this $25K estimate is evidence of coverage on this non-Allstate claim existing.
Hello friend I just saw this great video
You mentioned you made Like 500 bucks for this estimate claim
Does this include the time for the damage inspection site visit, travel time and time upload pictures
Was this 4 to 6hrs worth of work ?
Yes and yes
