my mum's wedding dress ended up in a shop like this run by Oxfam in the UK. We actually got sent pictures of the next bride to wear the dress because she wanted to say thank you to my mum for donating it. It was kind of amazing
It sounds amazing. Unbelievable X3 That's what I was thinking when that girl said she could feel the love from the dresses. Sort of like passing on the good fortune and wishes from a stranger.
Most of the dresses here I like more than the dresses that I see on say yes to the dress. I love charity shops. This is such a great idea. Win-win for everybody.
Why do you have to buy wedding dress when you can rent it? I'm confused why people spend like 500 bucks for wedding dress when in my country all of the brides and the grooms rarely buy clothes for wedding. Most of us rent them.
@@sillyweirdo7014 No it's not. In Germany wedding dress prices are pretty much the same as in the US or UK? 300-600€ isn't that much for a good rental dress, much cheaper than a 2k gown
I think there's nothing cheap about getting a second hand wedding dress, because it's actually beautiful that you get to share a part of the happiest day of your life with someone else on theirs. and the dresses are in tip top shape, there's literally no difference to a store bought one except that you're paying more and the textile industry is not very environment friendly so it's always great to buy second hand
My friend's wedding was the year before mine and I loved her dress so much that I asked her if I could borrow it for my wedding. She was happy to loan me the dress and we are still good friends 15 years later! I love how we got married in the same dress, it's a very special thing to share with someone. She originally bought it second hand and after I had it cleaned and gave it back to her, she sold it on again, so someone else could enjoy wearing it.
This is amazing--my local Goodwill always has tons of wedding dresses for cheap and it's so great these incredibly beautiful dresses are being passed around from one pair of loving hands to the next...
A great shop , well done , helps so many brides get a lovely dress they can afford , also helps charity for women . God bless all who donate , sell and help so many people . Xxx
This is a wonderful idea. It saves bride's money but the money they do spend goes to a good cause. It also saves the planet. While browsing a charity shop I found a fabulous white linen Monsoon gown, hippy style with shoe string straps, fit and flared with lace and the top and around the bottom. It cost me £6. It was brand new. It would be suitable for a wedding or a special occasion.
I was just thinking the same in UK! Wonderful idea and significant contribution to charities over the years. 500k wow! God bless these lights in the world who do so much good x
I have always wanted to find a use for thrift store wedding dresses and I thought about using the fabric from the dresses for pretty pillows but recently thought of making pretty face masks now in this age of COVID.
I cut up my wedding dress (with hubby's permission, in case he had issue with me doing it), and made a new dress out of it - I dyed it a different colour too! Still have it!
I love this story ....... so please brides don't do those 'ruin your dress' wedding photos where people splatter paint over them or set them on fire....... it just seems such a waste. These beautiful garments can be worn again and both the buyer and the people who donate their dresses know it is helping a good cause. Brilliant idea.
+Karen I've always thought that that's an insane idea...trashing the dress may seem fun, but get a fake Halloween-dress then...to run around in, in the mud. I'd never pick the dress that I love and then have 30 pictures and throw it away...I don't want to sound insulting or generalising, but it really is an American concept to throw things away after 'use', instead of keeping or reusing/recycling them...
The brides who do the "trash the gown" thing are usually brides that cancel the wedding because they find out the groom cheated or something after the dress is already paid for. It's more of a coping thing rather than just "lets have fun and ruin something expensive". I personally wouldn't do it, but I understand why others would do so.
Once? I wore the buttons off of my wedding dress! Then I got out the scissors and the old needle and thread and got shorter and shorter. Then I dyed it, no easy task! Then I added appliqué to it and other embellishments. I seriously got my moneys worth! Lol This is very lovely store, God Bless these women. All of them that are involved.
*I'm a Lil far away, but I'd love to check that place out when I have to find my gown!! Hey, I am all about second hand anything!! It drives me crazy when ppl refuse anything second hand. ...as if it hurts you, or anyone would notice even!*
what a great idea. I always see beautiful dresses in thrift stores that had to have cost al ton of $$$ to buy. If I needed a white wedding dress, I would have no problem buying it used.
If you live in MI check out The Bride's Project in Ann Arbor, they do this. I took a bridesmaid dress there and several of my cousins took their gowns there.
This is so great, wish we had a shop like this before I got married instead of purchasing fabric and having the seamstress made my gown. At brides, you have a wife pick of choices and you purchase goes to charity, that's wonderful, blessings of the Lord.
Great idea! I got married in a pink dress I had since before (and actually had worn to a few weddings). Wore it with a cardigan that was new for the day but which I have been using a few times since, paired with jeans and a normal top. I couldn't really get behind the idea of spending a lot of money and environmental resources on something to wear once, when I knew I'd feel great in what I already had.
I wish there was a place like this near me. I have been married before so I never intended to wear a bridal gown when I get married again this fall. But my fiance has not been married and has asked I wear a bridal gown so we look like a wedding couple, not a prom couple. We're eloping and having a simple beach ceremony followed by a photo session and lunch. So at the most I will be in a dress 2 hours. I really have no intentions of spending thousands on a dress. And I'm child free so I will not be passing it on to anyone. I have checked the thrift stores here but they just have small sizes. So this would be perfect.
When I got married I designed my dress as I wanted and rented for my wedding party and left to be used by other brides. .who were going to rent it for a lower price
The problem is that the prices aren't cheap & they are not transparent with their finances as a charity. I have no doubt that the owners are making a VERY nice income. They are openings several stores. These owners are making full profit as the gowns were donated to them. They then keep 3/4th of the profit & donate a bit to make it all seem legit

karry sasfoot exactly my thought. They are making money with other people's expensive stuff. If its for a cause, they should give the poor brides free of cost or in minimal cost.
because they dont make profit, they pay their staff, shop rental costs, cleaning costs etc. and the 'profit' is donated (to various charities...the cause bit), plus it reduces waste, and opens up wedding dresses of their dreams to people who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford it. Fine if you want to sell it yourself and keep the money but lots of people cant be bothered with the faff and would rather donate it to avoid landfill/taking up space in their closet. plus it stops surplus from businesses just going in a bin!

Hello I would like to buy few wedding Dresses for my store.
Awwwwww that’s so sweet!!!
I would love to start something like this in India.
If you do let me know
Please do.

Michelle's Dairies yeah! Tell us when!! 😊
It won't work because we Indians tends to have huge sentimental value with the wedding dresses and everyone wants to buy new dresses for their wedding

same in Japan too
We used to do that in the UK, bridesmaids dresses too.
