End of a life is still my favorite Cali song, though there are plenty that come close. I really respect the vulnerability. She went far more in depth on the lyrics on stream and that was the first time she broke down on stream. Your pretty on the mark. She’s talked about feeling like an outcast, being horribly bullied as a kid causing her to be wary and secluded. It wasn’t until college when she found and fell in love with the underground Japanese rap scene. Eventually moving to Japan to peruse her new found dream on a work visa. She was an English teacher who barely spoke the language and could barely afford rent, but on the weekends found a close group of friends and musicians to play local bars and the like with. She was desperate to make her mentors proud, and when she finally made it big through Hololive, a lot of those same people she looked up to turned their back on her, they were bitter that they were still struggling and that she “sold out” by becoming an idol. And naturally that shook her to the core. So it’s kind of a melancholic nostalgia.
Side note between these singles and her first Full length solo album UnAlive, is when she returned to her original stage name to release the EP Shut up get happy, which I’d highly recommend

Thanks for the breakdowns! A lot of what you've reacted to is what I'd refer to as Old Cali. UnAlive is the start of her breaking out of her niche and trying new things. Would love to see you react to her collab songs. Dunno how copyright runs since I never see reactions to it, but Yona Yona Journey is a fun song and also has a great sax in it.

Alright, I have a lot of thoughts about each song, but since you seem to pretty much have an understanding of them all, I'll focus on one in particular.
Calli did a live stream after _"End of a Life"_ released where she talked about the song, the lyrics, what she was feeling, that sort of thing. Probably the most important thing she said during that stream as she cried was, *"I just wanted them to be proud of me."*
Before Holo and _right before Covid hit,_ Calli was living in Japan working a day job as I believe an English teacher and pursuing her music career through the Japanese underground rap scene. She made a bunch of friends who were also artists she really admired and respected. People she thought were above her either in skill or in any number of ways, people she thought of as more deserving of success. However, once the pandemic hit and people stopped going out to bars and clubs where they performed, many of those artists were forced to abandon their music careers in favor of more stable income in order to survive. Calli instead joined Holo, and as we can see, she's doing very well. Unfortunately, this didn't sit well with many of those so-called "friends" she had made in the underground scene, and many of them turned on her...
We may never know exactly what was said, but it hurt Calli very deeply and definitely didn't help her self-deprecating tendencies. Based on the feel and lyrics of _"End of a Life,"_ it seems to me that Calli still looks back on those days fondly and nostalgicly, wishing those who couldn't make it could have another chance, but realizes that not only does she not actually _want_ to go back to those days, she _can't._ She's made her choice, her "trade" as the song puts it, and it turned out great for her. It's as if she feels that wishing for the way things used to be would be an insult to all those who couldn't make it and make her ungrateful.
So she tells herself not to feel that way. Not to be nostalgic. Not to miss the people she thought were friends. Instead, make the absolute most of the opportunity you've been given and focus on the work in front of you.
      _"There's nothing left_
      _Back there for me"_
_"You don't get to say, 'I miss you'"_
      _"Stop the pity party, listen_
_You dont get to be dismayed_
_You don't get to be emotional_
_Feel blessed you got it made"_

End of A Life what many consider to be her best song. It's astonishing that she almost scrapped and didn't release this. There are songs in the future that touch on this again. Look out for them, Glass Slipper on Sinderella and Left For Dead Lullaby on Jigoku 6. Glass slipper feels like part 2 of EOAL. Forgive me for jumping around, but I'd like to mention that Calli initially did not have a positive opinion on Idols and Idol culture. I'd recommend checking out her lyric dive as well as the first guest appearance on Trash Taste, where she delves into how she changed that opinion due to her close friend Milky Queen. There are singles, covers, and some collabs that are stand-alone. Some are on her future albums, tho. The lastest released song Overkill is in her words the harshest song since Off With Their Heads. I can't wait for you to hear it. In the meantime It was nice to hear your thoughts. I look forward to when you cover more of her music.

Great lyric/song breakdowns, once again! For "End of a Life", if you're interested in Calli's own breakdown/dive into the lyrics, she had a stream shortly after the release where she went through them and what they mean to her: ua-cam.com/video/f5kW0Ub1xuI/v-deo.html
TLDR though, you've definitely hit on a lot of what she was trying to convey. Some additional context that might be important was that she applied and was accepted into Hololive basically right at the start of the pandemic. So, while she was slingshot into popularity and was thrust into the internet's spotlight as a Hololive vTuber, many of the people she used to work with were essentially forced to give up on their aspirations/dreams due to the harsh reality of those times (bars and public spaces closing means no more live shows and thus no money). To her own frustration, she saw her own popularity grow way past the people she used to idolize in her old industry, despite the fact that she still considered them to be much better at their trades than her. She talked about feeling guilty of her own success, even though she understood there was no reason to really feel that way, and seemed content to be seen as "that sellout" who swapped from Japanese internet rap over to "happy Hololive Idol" type work by her old friends/acquaintances.
Now in reality, like you said yourself, joining Hololive gives you a huge stage and audience visibility, but taking that advantage and making use of it is the hard part. And while Hololive does have a focus on Idol activities, that doesn't somehow invalidate all the effort put into it by the talents. Calli took hold of that opportunity and has developed it into her own, breaking records and paving the path for others, not only just in Hololive.
As for whether your audience likes the longer or shorter breakdowns, I can only say that as long as there's still something useful to say, I'm happy with them being as long as necessary lol.

A little background context on calli and end of a life, she was a rapper in the underground Japanese rap scene, but then covid hit, the bars shut down "shattering the bars that we have played." she and her friends had to go back to a stable 9-5 job, leaving their dreams behind, a friend suggested she apply to hololive, she took the chance and she made it. But some of her friends saw it as her taking the easy way out and left her.
End of a life is her half blaming herself for what happened and half telling herself that it's passed, and thanking those old friends for what they did for her regardless of how things ended
She almost didn't release this song thinking it was too personal and that people wouldn't like it, for many this is our favorite song of hers.

Informed guesswork here for End of a Life. From her streams, her earlier persona, reading between the lines of her songs, both as Calli and as [REDACTED], things she said in interviews and streams she did as [actual birth name] not as Calli or [REDACTED], etc. Here goes...
It is a real city. Tokyo.
Outer space is another phrase she often uses for Tokyo. An alien place for someone who grew up in Texas. Different culture, different language, different people, different vibe, different everything.
A different life where she did not ascend... where she never stopped being [REDACTED], never took the shot, never joined Hololive. What person would she be then?
But hey... she was lucky to have applied right before a huge pandemic forced everyone to stay home, get bored, and watch silly videos on UA-cam, which let her bloom into a star. Someone who made the big leagues. Someone that later got signed by Universal Music.
There's nothing left back there for her. She stopped being a member of the underground rap scene in Tokyo. The scene kinda fell apart due to rona anyway.
Friends left. Some of those old friends that saw who she became(Calli), went bitter, seeing her as a sellout and cutting ties with her. Which is the most tragic thing, as she still would love their appreciation and approval. They made her. Helped her hone her skills.
Would the potential songs [REDACTED] didn't write as someone living the life of an unsigned artist, but could have, have been better than the actual songs that Calli, the Hololive starlet with massive producers backing her, did write?
She doesn't get to say "I miss you.". She chose to become corporate. And she outgrew old friends from the underground scene. People who once were her idols. She became who she once both mocked and envied. A person working to a deadline, under a boss. No longer free to do anything she wanted.
The part in the background is her talking to her old self. The her she wants to reconnect with. She'll keep waiting for the passion she once had to return. Keep trying to recapture that feeling.
And the last bit is her no longer thinking about [REDACTED], but focusing on being Calliope. Wondering if she'll ever be as hungry for success as she was in the old days, now that she can afford to fly home to Texas and back to Japan any time she has free time. If she'll regain the drive that pushed her to write such biting lyrics. Will the life of someone that "made it" stunt her growth? Can she keep that part of her that made her who she is alive? Or is it over? Is it the... End of a Life?
Mind you, A life. One of a few she's had since birth. First [actual birth name], then [REDACTED], and now Calliope Mori. Can she retain what [REDACTED] had going for her in the chapter of Mori?
Overall, these three songs are quite a wide set of introspection at different points in her career.
P.S.: I'll give you the redacted bits, but only if you ask. Or, you could find it pretty easily yourself. The info is out there, at a Googles distance. Don't know if you want to break the kayfabe for the sake of a wider appreciation of the artist.

In regards to Off With Their Heads its not about ego. It's a Call To Action. Calli's very big on supporting Vtubers/Creators. She wants people to succeed. She said just make anything, whether it's music, art, videos, streaming but do something. It takes dedication and hell of a lot of work to get where she got. The "Vtweeters" got heated when the song was released because she mentioned people who sit on social media all day and complain about numbers or stagnation while doing nothing to improve. It's not a diss despite some thinking it is. She uses herself as an example, someone who technically was an unknown for hololive. She is multi skilled when it comes to music, video, and art, but what she lacked prior to debut was streaming experience. Now look where she is. You're right in regards to her being a workaholic. Girls can't sit still always going from one thing to another. She's mentioned she'd like to mentor future talent somewhere down the line.

Thanks for the comment! Oh, I meant ego as in Sigmund Freud's model of the psyche (id, ego, superego)! The part of her morality that wants to impart this learnt advice to others, maybe a kind of duty or responsibility especially since many people look up to her and whatnot, definitely a Call To Action as well!

Great breakdown as always, I think almost all of these three songs were very resonant with the community to this day, since as you mentioned, Calli goes very personal eith us in all these three.
And of a Life in particular is probably her most beloved song that its probably voted as the most favored Calli song by her fellow Hololive members (and Hololive fans). Personally, I think its also the most reflective of who Calli was at the time as well, while its a great song listening to it at the time, with how much she has grown and built a place for herself within Holo that it probably it enchances how much most of us love the song.
So Ig TLDR, looking forward to seeing you learn more of Calli artistically 🙌💀❤️

Off with their heads is one of the best songs she's created and is a wake up call to those vtweeters, i had a blast when this dropped and they took the blow because they think it's easy for them because they are corporate hires which is not because of those expectations and they really have to come up with interesting stuff non stop and guess what those vtweeters we're hurt because they want numbers and just relax, they want numbers while alao doing nothing lmao, like hell you can do that lmao. I'm glad there are also people who understand the premises of the song in which this song is an encouragement, prior to this Calli is really adamant on supporting fellow vtubers and talents. and fun fact, Calli is 90% present all the time on her fellow vtubers streams, hence, there's a lot of clips in which calli comments on moments where their fellow vtubers are in predicament or funny situations

For Calli solos from this period these are indeed the most essential, but there were a couple others.
Namely there was Ibasho, which is frankly fairly skippable as its entirely in Japanese and rather short. It's notable as her first promotional song, which she did for a mobile game called Princess Connect. Considering she would eventually go on to partner with brands like One Piece, Metal Gear and DC Comics to make songs though, its sort of an important stepping stone. Also she did end up working with the producer on the song multiple times after so it was important for that as well.
There was also Dawn Blue, which was the backing track for the Hololive Alternative promotional video. It's a bit more substantial (and only the first half is in Japanese) but the full version does not have a music video. It's cool because it stands as proof that only a few months in to her time as Calli, Hololive had the utmost faith in her and was ready to tap her to not only perform but help write songs for major company projects
There's also Yona Yona Journey. It's sort of a producer driven track (to the point that its on the producer's channel) so i guess you can do it when you get to her collaborative songs, but Calli is the only vocal talent on it and she wrote much of the lyric as well.
As for her collaborative singles, its fine to wait on those. In terms of insight into Calli the only one that really goes deep is probably Crown with Boogey Voxx which came out shortly after End of a Life and to me always kind of felt like a bit of a counterpart for it lyrically.
That all said, i guess Unalive is next. The first full length album (and her last major release before signing with UMG)... which, yeah, dunno if you plan to break it up somehow considering how long this turned out. Regardless, looking forward to seeing the journey continue.
