- How to Put on a Silicone Mermaid Tail QUICKLY and EASILY - How do you put on a silicone mermaid tail? Easy. Follow this tutorial! ♥ There are a lot of tutorials on the internet showing you how to get into a silicone mermaid tail, but I'm going to show you the easiest way to do it! This technique is something that I've developed after years of experimentation with different kinds lubricants and a TON of patience.
Like anyone ANYWHERE that is starting something new, I had no idea what I was doing back in 2016 when I decided to become a professional mermaid. I remember the FIRST time I tries putting on my MerNation tail (named Sparda). The process took about 20 minutes and left me in tears! I was on the verge of overheating while getting dressed, since silicone tails are very insulating and since the process took me so long. And once I FINALLY got into the tail and FINALLY got into the water, the tail slipped off of me in a matter of minutes. It was dreadful! (You can see my uncut First Swim video here: • First Swim in my MerNa... )
Luckily, as I've gained more experience as a professional mermaid, I've learned NEW ways of doing things. I no longer struggle to get into my tail. The process is actually quite quick on most days now (excepts for when I'm changing "undercover" on the beach...). I have experimentation and the wisdom of elder merfolk to thank for the discovery of this perfected technique.
Below, you will find a list and links to ALL of the products you will need in order to get into your silicone mermaid tail. Additionally, I'll also link you to the blog post on my website, since I know some of you digest information better when you read it as opposed to listening to it. You can find the blog post below.

Step 1: actually be able to afford a silicone tail 😪😂
Yeahh... that is true. But it never hurts to be prepared until you can get to that point. It does take a while to save up, but you'll get there ♥
They had a great sale during the beginning of the pandemic! Follow them on Instagram and Facebook to watch for their discount specials !
Make one!
Step 2: Aimlessly be indecisive about which tail maker and what you want it to look like for ages before you actually get it
Si
*SORRY FOR THE DELAY!!* I Scheduled the video for 3pm, but forgot to hit "save changes." Gaaaahhh!!! Anyways, the blog post will be live tomorrow :)
Hate it when I forget to do that :/ Love the video!
We all make mistakes though. I'm glad you can understand ♥ And thank you very much! I hope it was helpful!
Mom: “What’s with the lube?”
Hahahaha! All part of the awkwardness of being a professional mermaid! 😆
Ok the rags are a GENIUS idea! My hands are always so slippery and horrible
Thank you! It is such a simple thing, but they are immensely helpful. Hehehe! I hope that this helps make your merlife at least a little bit easier :) ♥
Just received my MerNation tail a few weeks ago! I’ve struggled with this process of putting her on ! This is one of the best tutorials on the subject! Thanks so much! The struggle is real ! Your Mermazing 🧜♀️💞
And I thought putting on full scuba gear was difficult lol
Bwahahaha! I'm sure that is pretty difficult too though. ;)
Awesome video! For a hybrid tail I made, I used the Mahina, but I didn't want to seal it in so it's removable out the bottom like a Finfun. It's very difficult and painful to get my feet in the foot pockets while it's in the tail, so I stick them out the bottom, put on the monofin, then pull the tail over the monofin. Works alot faster and easier on my hands ♥️♥️♥️
Great tips! Designing me silicon tail with Mernation in process! Super excited !
I wish I could just pull my tail up like that. I love my Phoenix, but since she's lined I can't use lube on the neoprene. I'll learn a faster way eventually.
Oh yikes! I thought she was full silicone?!? That's a bummer! I hope you can find an easier way. :(
@@TheMagicCrafter Nope, the Spellbounds are neoprene lined. I love how comfortable it makes her, but yeah it takes me a good while to pull her up. Mainly my butt, it's pretty big so getting the waist over is tricky.
You can do it! (me trying to cheer you on)
Dish rags/face flannels is such a good idea! Prevents hand slippage after lube and probably reduces the risk of sticking a nail through your tail and damaging it that way by accident. Taking notes for when I eventually buy my own!
Thank you! It really is handy! I actually loaned some to a fellow mermaid in Singapore once, because her hands were slipping constantly when she was trying to get dressed. I suggest packing everything into a Tote Bag for easy carrying. 😇💕
I hope you get your new tail soon! Silicone tails are so much fun! 💜
Who knew you had to do all this to put on a silicone tail😂
Right!?! Being a merperson is a lot of work! And some who don't use this technique take even longer to get into their tails. It's a pain sometimes! 😆
Very informative and helpful! Il be needing this soon in the Mernation tail. 🧜🏻♂️🙏🏻
Thank you for this, much appreciated!
Sure thing! Happy to help! :)
Thank you for watching!
So fast!!! :O Lysm! ♥️♥️
Thank youuu!! It wasn't a quick process at first, but I've gotten faster as I've learned new ways of doing things :)
This video is really helpful thank you :3
I'm glad that you found it helpful! Thank you for watching! :)
Nice job
Nice video, how much does that tail cost? Also, are there any tails like that but with a whole catsuit attached?
This is so cool! 😄
Thank you! :) I'll admit, it is awkward getting changed on camera, but I hope it was a helpful video at least! XD
Beautiful video. Hope youre not sick from the cold weather. 😍😍😘😘
Thank you! No, I am not sick from the cold. However, I do work with children and they most certainly got me sick again! 😅😭
@@TheMagicCrafter hope you feel better soon.😍😘🙏 pray for you that you'r gone become better. 😍😘
Thanks for the video 🙏💙
Sure thing! Happy Friday!! :)
Do you have any videos on where you got your tail? Or tail buying advice? :3
do you need to do the the liquads
cool!!
Super cute and very helpful. I did have an image of a pretty fish flopping on the beach tho....jus sayin.... lol
Está bien bonito
Also what mono fin do you have cause like I need to get one
For this tail, I either have the FINIS Wave or FINIS Rapid.. I can't remember which one. ^^'
BUT! I really don't recommend it, as the heel straps fall off very easily, which can make swimming difficult. My other tail has a FINISH Shooter. I'd recommend that one over the Wave/Rapid, since it doesn't fall off as easily. :)
Eeeeek, this is why I'm partially-lining and putting a zipper in the dorsal of mine when I'm done with it. The whole hip/waist discrepancy is why my Mertailor gaps somethin' fierce.
Cute. 💜💙🧜♀️
Where did you buy your mermaid tail I wanna buy one just like yours
My tail is a one-of-a-kind tail that cannot and should not be duplicated. The design was created by me and brought to life by Mernation. ♥
What kind/brand of monofin is in Sparda?
Sparda has a FINIS Rapid, I do believe ♥ I know it is a FINIS, at least! XD
What kind of conditioner do you use
It is linked in the description. 💜
is it harder to put it on when its cold out verses nice weather/warm out?
*Absolutely!* Once your fingers start to freeze up, they lose the ability to function perfectly.... which makes getting in *AND* out of a silicone tail much more difficult. I'd actually say that getting out of one is FAR more difficult in cold weather than getting out 😅
@@TheMagicCrafter Sounds like a bad time lol
Do u know anyone who does mermaid tail fluke extensions
I do know of a few tailmakers who create extended tails! I can't remember the names of a few, but I do know that this one is one of the most well-known for extended tails: ua-cam.com/channels/XeS0vlrfvEsvBBshqGFl8w.html
How expensive is the tail and the socks?
This tail was $2,850 if memory serves (it is 5 years old). I don't remember the price of the socks offhand, but you can click on the link to them in the description to see the price!
I was hoping you'd include how you get into the water too. Do you just drag yourself?
Hi Aisha! That probably would have been helpful to include. 😅 I just scoot myself into the water as carefully as possible. Basically, I do what is shown in this video (where I scoot across the grass): ua-cam.com/video/NNtUXnwEA-8/v-deo.html The key is getting changed as close as possible to your swimming location AND trying to change in an area that isn't covered in sticks, sharp shells/rocks or broken glass. 🖤 Hope that helped explain it some. Happy swimming!
How do you get in the water at a lake or beach when you don't have someone to carry you in? My husband can't left me & my tail.
I kinda just scoot... I don't like having to have someone carry me either, so I change close to my swim spot and scoot on in! This video will give you an example of how I get it done: ua-cam.com/video/bYHNUnZUd4k/v-deo.html
@@TheMagicCrafter thank you so much!

Magic mermaid I want to know if you can come to Springfield Mo with your mermaid tails so I can try the mermaid tails on
Ermosas
Can I use lotion to put it on
I have never tried it, and I haven't heard of others using lotion either. I would stick with lube or conditioner + water. If you do have something else you'd like to use, I'd highly suggest talking to your tailmaker about it first to make sure it is safe for your tail. :)
Have you ever tried the "roll down" method?
I have, but it didn't work very well for me. The silicone on my tail is quite thick, so I think that may be part of it.
OK.
I helped a mermaid friend couple years ago, we did hers roll down method. But it was a pretty thick DragonSkin silicone tail. It still went kinda' harshly.
How do you get into the water? And how do you get out of the water?
Usually, I get dressed on the beach (under blankets like a mer-ninja) and then scoot into the water. If nobody is around, I take my tail off in the water and one of my family members will toss me a towel to cover up with and help me get the tail covered up too. If kids are present, I scoot myself on to the beach, cover with a towel and pretend to be sleepy. I "fall asleep" until everyone loses interest in me, then I'll wiggle out of my tail and make a run for the car. 😂
The Magic Crafter your upper body must be freezing in that water!
primeiro passo: tenha uma calda de sereia de silicone
Hahaha! Sim! Sim! 😉
It’s kinda weird seeing you with legs because you’re so good at swimming with the tail and that’s all we usually see. Nice information.
❤️❤️❤️😘🥰
Hey phantom, I just wanted to make you aware that during streams UA-cam is banning accounts for commenting or streaming. Markeplier is working on it and has a video about it, I just wanted to make you aware so hopefully our mer pod doesn’t get our google accounts suspicious
Hi Carly. Thank you for sharing this news. I just watched the video and it is HORRIBLE what is happening. I'll admit, it has me worried that MY friends here on UA-cam and MY channel may both be at risk. I don't want anyone to get themselves banned... especially since it appears as though the entire Google account is getting deleted, not just videos and UA-cam channels... this is no good. This is no good at all. :(
The Magic Crafter I agree. Hopefully it will get fixed soon though. Until then all we can do is wait and try not to spam emoticons. On a happier note, this video was really well put together and very helpful :)
Hmm, is taking off easier then putting on?
In the summertime, yes! In the winter.... no 😂

I’m trying to get my mom to let me buy a tail for Christmas but she’s getting me an apple laptop instead of a mermaid tail :( but I’m still happy
Ohhh! Fingers crossed for you! Maybe she'll end up surprising you with one instead!? Either way, both seem like awesome options! :D
Y do u had 2
I don't understand the question
Why do we have to know this ?
Because if you own a silicone tail, then you need to know how to put it on. If you *don't* have a use for this video, then perhaps consider watching videos more relevant to your life.
Or coconut oil
I used to use coconut oil, but I don't do that anymore. I've heard that it can cause your tail to decay faster and can promote the growth of mold. :(
Lube it up :P
😝😶
Omg Im too claustrophobic to use one of that 😭
i love how no one saw that the lube is half empty lmao
Yep. I use it sparingly. Half full means another 4-5 rounds of getting in costume! Yaaay!
I will keep working until I have enough money to afford the silicone mermaid tail and all of the accessories
That's the spirit! You'll get there sooner than you think. :)
Mom
Your tail seemed to easy to get on. The legs to thighs on my tail are very very small and squish me a ton when its on. Kind of takes my breath away. But is does not slip at all and does not move. The hips are hard to get over as the waist seems about 6 inches small to get on my waist. The person making mine suggested super tight so it will not stretch out ever
No
you look beautyfull and hobble my lovely merwife ❤❤❤❤
