Tom Lehrer: The Wild West Is Where I Want To Be (concert live) (1960)

- The first part of the video (my signature slide) is overlaid by the final bars of "Poland Is Not Yet Lost", which I played on my keyboard.
The main part of the song is one of Tom Lehrer's live performed songs, "The Wild West Is Where I Want To Be". It is part of Tom's second published live performance album, "Tom Lehrer Revisited". But I obtained the actual music from the box set, "The Remains of Tom Lehrer", which was released in 2000. Enjoy.
And the last part is the main theme of "The Phantom of the Opera", by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Simply the 'cherry on top', and my personal song.
Here's the description Tom Lehrer himself made about the song: "A 20th century cowboy song about the wonders of the present day Wild West, as described in the few news stories that penetrate to the East."
Sorry I gave so much information about the music earlier. I don't want to get screwed by stupid WMG again. They are a bunch of arse-holes. And to make sure I am not screwed, have them read the following credits:
Recorded at KRESGE AUDITORIUM, MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, Cambridge, MA (11/23/59 & 11/24/59)
Produced by TOM LEHRER
Engineered by STEPHEN FASSETT
From the album "Tom Lehrer Revisited", Decca [U.K.] #LK-4375 (1960)
[NOTE: A somewhat different version of this album, incorporating portions of concerts done in Australia in 1960, was issued domestically as Lehrer #TL-201 (1960)]
"The Remains of Tom Lehrer" Compilation ℗ 2000 Warner Bros. Records Inc. & Rhino Entertainment Company.
how was this song not in Fallout: New Vegas? seriously, this would've made it so epic. and totally meta too.
If they remake it they could add it because he added all his songs to the public domain
@@darnmeddlingkids921 oh fuck yeah
I've been counting, he has six songs which should (or at least could) be in there - so far as I've heard, anyway.
The politics of the pre-war fallout world wouldn't have allowed for Tom Lehrer there's probably no recordings of him to play on the radio.
@rabudbunnies2 In real life in Soviet Union rock music was banned in 50's and 60's yet people still found ways to record and distribute their music in black market trade using used x-ray photos as discs. So why couldn't people in the Fallout universe do something similar?
Asked why he didn't perform anymore Ton Lehrer said "nothing is funny anymore "
Truly, nothing is funny anymore.
People are saying this belongs in Fallout. It doesn’t; it's too self-aware.
I kinda wish his "We will all go together when we go," song was in fallout. It doesnt really fit the series tonally, but its hella funny
Leaf Finite It might just fit, actually.
The original fallout was super self aware, new vegas too to an extent
To be fair, the Fallout games that weren't made by Bethesda are pretty self-aware. It's just Bethesda that really goes "wow!! cool bomb!!!"
@@leaffinite3828 it was referenced at one point
I had to come a relisten to this agter watched Oppenheimer.
Anybody left in 2021?
I'm from 2023 😎so probably
Shoulda been in fallout new Vegas
They did have a little nod to Tom Lehrer with a quest named after his song We Will All Go Together, but its a shame they couldnt get his actual music in there.
@@wrevflatwoods6225 it's kinda sad, that they couldn't pay for the license because of greedyness
@@ryanchungus8972 Probably just laziness too since he's often enough just let people use his work if they simply ASK.
@@ryanchungus8972 he recently put all his music in the public domain
BRAVO.
Thank you!!!
How did they not use this song in Oppenheimer.
Because Oppenheimer was more of a Drama, not a dramedy.
Yep, though it'd have been even better suited for the 1982 documentary Atomic Cafe!
An important supplement to US history.
Thanks for the complement, Michael.
Honestly, I am a little apprehensive about embedding. Can't you just post a hyperlink? I would much prefer my videos to be viewed on UA-cam.

Hey, is that a polish anthem at the beggining?
thought it was the irish anthem
Patrolling the mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter.
Wow, the intro jingle makes me want to go into a murderous rage. What an affront to Tom Lehrer's songs this concept is...
What is the AEC?
Atomic Energy Commission
@@AlexSh789 thank you.
I don’t get the references at the beginning
Los Alamos National Laboratories was, at the time, when most nuclear weapons in the US arsenal had been designed. So, Tom Lehrer was probably doing mathematical physics work for the Atomic Energy Commission (or, as he sang, the "AEC"). When he said "the staff at Los Alamos consisted almost exclusively of spies", that was a reference to the several spies (Klaus Fuchs, David and Rosa Greenglass, and a few other suspected spies) working in and around Los Alamos.
@@patriciadechenier5740 It is possible he didn't actually have anything to do with it, as he might've just said he worked there so he could tell a joke and sing the song.
@@templarkiller2926 He actually did work there tho
Yeah he was NSA
@@greaser7897 He was predominantly a math professor, though it wouldn't surprise me if he had government contracts before that.
😆😀😆
Jesus, how crushed would the indians who loved and lived on the land that was nuked feel, that's really sad.
Look into the history of the Navajo being employed by the mines and AEC to mine uranium without ever being told about the danger, even as the U.S. Public Health Service was studying them to observe the long-term effects of radiation poisoning. They must have been viewed as expendable test subjects, which is honestly chilling.
@@flagrarus I don't want too. Good to know it's worse than I initially thought.
We had a similar thing happen in Australia with the Maralinga Nuclear tests.
