Boris Berezovsky performing his own adaptation of Chernov's transcription of Modest Mussorgsky's famous work in a 2005 recital in Mexico City. Astounding!!
I've always loved the orchestral version, but I must say I'm stunned by this. To me, Berezovsky has perfectly captured the mood and tension of this piece. It's funny, when I heard the original version, one of the first things I thought was "this would be impossible to play solo piano"... am glad to be proven wrong. Bravo
The entire genre of Heavy Metal owes Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky a MASSIVE debt of gratitude. In a lot of ways, Night On Bald Mountain picked up where Beethoven left off. This is where Thrash comes from.
Well, when I first heard this, the part that made me crap my pants was actually at 5:07 with the open 5th/4th arpeggios in the LH over the two octaves. There's something about having ONLY open intervals that means that any wrong note is obvious, to say nothing of the speed. That's a LH etude passage in itself. Thx for the good comments here lately :)
I love Fantasia, still my all time favorite film to this day. It's a Disney film that's not too overly sugary and doesn't rely on dialogue and princesses, just the right mix of something for everyone. Spectacular movie.
Wow! BRAVO!! This is a truly amazing performance of Mussorgsky's composition. I really enjoy the dynamic control he has, his immaculate execution and independence of each hand contributing to a truly inpirational performance!
How the hell does his fingers have the strength to go on and on for almost 9 minutes?!?!?! :O It's phenomenal. Plus he's memorised ALL of the piece....Jesus..
This piece of music was meant to be written for piano believe it or not. Mussorgsky never got to perform it during his lifetime, when it finally got arrange and performed for orchestra, it became a huge concert favorite. Fantastic piece of music. Obviously got the attention it deserved when being heard in Fantasia.
At the 2 minute mark his face just looks like he is casually playing, like it is no big deal. I am going to check this amazing performer out some more wow.
I played this piece a couple years ago... granted, I was only 14 AND it took me 14 minutes to play, not 8, but this was the most fun I have ever had playing piano. It takes you down every single road you can imagine In playing. The fast and the furious, and the heart-breaking earnest soulful ending. It helped me find out who I was as a musician. Truly my all time favorite piece.
for all the people that didnt think this song couldnt translate for the piano well needs to know that it was written for the piano first and then transposed for the orchestra
This was one of the pieces I had to study for O level music back in the late 70's. We studied the Rimsky-Korsakov orchestration. I've always wanted to hear how Mussorgsky intended it. Just brilliant.
This is actually such an incredible transcription, standing alone from Berezovsky's daunting performance of it here. I'm surprised and kinda sad he doesn't transcribe more works...
This just demonstrates how much control he has. He let's the drama of the music speak for itself and doesn't need a lot of unnecessary movement to distract the audience from the music he his making. You should also see his Chopin-Godowsky transcriptions. They are (in my opinion) the best recordings of these pieces and demonstrate even more remarkable technical and musical prowess.
Hail to transcriber Konstantin Tchernov for this epic piano transcription!!! Also Igor Khudolei has a badass transcription for "Night on Bald Mountain". Nikolai Tokarev recorded it. Both Tchernov & Khudolei are badasses!!!!!
This piece has made me change minds concerning Berezovsky. He really makes something out of the piece and I didn't get any feeling of him trying to be showy in any way. Really well done.
its amazing what a human body can do
😏

*When you’re doing your homework as the teacher is collecting it*
Classical masterpieces don't exist to narrate your pleb life. This is better than you will ever be.
Romantic Masterpiece, not Classical. Mussorgsky was one of the Russian Five, all Romantic Period.
Fucking poseur.
@@TheDrag0nSlayer and based on the nature of your one post, it’s much better than your pleb life as well

The great Boris! Bravo!!!
Not to be discouraging, but I think it truly takes a gift to play at this level, more then just practice.
That was the most awesome thing I have ever heard by far! He's playing like every part of the entire orchestra! Winds included!
And THAT is how it's done!! Amazing.
Que talento tiene este sujeto. Increible!
OMG..I have no words!!!
